Fucking this. RO2 was buggy as shit, and Trip Wire dropped support of the game quick. Didn't add shit until Rising Storm and even then, they didn't add anything further.

RO1 had so many maps, factions, guns, and vehicles it was unreal. There was more complexity with hit mechanics, and less chokepoints to encourage flanking. It's the only FPS I've played where machine gun cover fire was an actual thing.

Game was a gem. While RO2 is fun, it was a pump and dump money grab, and didn't have half the support or features from its parent.

The setting is what fucking killed RO2, basing the game around one battle meant the team could cut so much content from ROOST. I'd sad to see how far Tripwire has fallen from their humble roots as the Make Something Unreal contest winners to shitting out products like RO2 and KF2.

RO 2 now has so many community maps implemented and they added the MG42, Panzer III, universal carrier, sdkfz and t70 through updates, it really feels more like the original. Rising Storm is way to close quarters and fast paced.

Tripwire are good but they're not perfect.

What I like about red orchestra 2/rising storm most however is just the fact that you've got the ability to adjust your sights for range.

which just feels immersive, like your gun is more "real",


add to that character movement, the music (which is phenomenal, really feels appropriate for the time and characters),

I also like how tanks are controlled, (with the delay if you're soloing it, and an optimal configuration of at least 3 tank crewpersons)

The Asymmetry is really nice, whether it's flamethrowers/mortars or some of the differences between german and soviet soldiers there's just a lot to go around.

I've heard some rumors about Rising Storm 2.

Aufmarsch (a ww1 mod for RO2/Rising Storm) is going to attempt to move to RS2 (once it's released).


Rising Storm 2 will have Tunnel-systems (something about the initial plans for Rising Storm had to do with japanese tunnel networks, but things got cut/weren't able to happen).

Custom maps were god tier in ROst. The Berlin map with all those enterable buildings was so great.

Only if you actually coordinate with each other, otherwise it's better to have those other two guys on foot, providing additional manpower.

I play on a toaster and that shit goes nuts half the time. I need to look up the console command again before I play or else it's like I'm in the invisible lands where everything is invisible.

Progression is retarded steep, after sinking nearly 100 hours I'm nowhere near getting all the unlocks. It doesn't help that the progression system isn't slanted in favor of limited availability classes, so you end up with a million XP in basic rifleman classes/weapons but almost nothing in the very limited commander or sniper classes/weapons.

I think the only non-rifleman class I have a decent ammount of XP in is squad leader, which I'm amazed isn't grabbed up as quickly since it's such a powerful class.

but team-voip isn't bugged, but that can lead to SL's being unable to coordinate properly as they don't have a dedicated com. hierarchy.

Even worse is how the game handles votekicks and mutes. You have assholes spamming shit in the mic (funny at first but it gets old when you literally can't hear anything else) and then they change their name to someone else in the server. The game can't differentiate the two, and there's no mention on the mute/kick list to say who's the original (from experience it's always the guy closer to the top of the list, but half of the idiots don't know this and vote to kick the first name they see) so even if you're smart and mute him there's a chance he'll take your name and you get kicked instead.

Fallen FIghters is pretty fun if you play as a sniper and know how to play as a sniper.
Once got like 60 kdr in a round while still capturing most points for the team.

I feel like one of maybe 3 people that likes playing the map normally, but I was incredibly disheartened to see screenshots of people's edited ini files with no fog and completely clear view distance.

I used to love playing as TL on it. Before Rising storm came out and everyone started freaking out about SL roles since spawning on them never worked before. I would just solo mark arty points and not use a mic once and not a single person would bitch win or lose. At the start id mark their front wall closest to the cap point as fast as humanly possible, call arty, sprint to my wall, cap the point as tons of death messages pop up, sprint to sewers, cap middle, then call more arty from sewer zone. Was fun. Also tanks used to have ace AI crew, and you could rack up a million kills with them helping instead of the retards with true intelligence manning your tank. And even while playing as an ordinary riflemen dodging a million snipers, doing a successful push on that map is fun. Its all about using the smallest bits of cover, tiny walls, tiny hills, little fountains, small foxholes, broken bus, etc. Its a good map.

I just stay in the edge of C prone behind a wall, shoot people along the street and lob grenades over the wall if I hear anyone nearby. Plenty of teamates get themselves killed near me that I stay stocked with ammo and grenades and can keep going indefinitely.

What happened to the front lines of ROOST? Now it's just pubs of assholes running into machine gun fire trying to fire from the hip. The maps are so damn small too, there are no long range fire fights ever.

Everyone praising it must have got it after the fucking abysmal launch and how Tripwire handled the whole ordeal. Pretty much killed my trust in them and seeing Killing Floor 2, makes me happy to know I was right to avoid them.

At least RS turned out nice.
