Quake 3 Arena mostly because it's a perfect way to git gud if you beat the game against bots on every difficulty. It teaches you good habits like the importance of map knowledge and retreating when you're low on health. It also helps that the bots are actually really, really good in Quake 3 Arena. Now bear in mind, Quake live is NOT the same thing as Q3A, so don't play Quake Live. It's shit.
There are people who would disagree with me and recommend UT over quake though, but honestly they're different beasts and you should play both franchises.

The loadouts are gone, the only things left from that update is the HMG, and autohop, which can be turned off, and are off on Duel servers by default. Quake Live is the only one with more than <10 players. People need to stop talking about things they have no idea about, literally every time Quake Live is brought up here, someone who doesn't even play the game comments about it.
