>>343048116
This is nowhere near Doom moment. A couple of wide shots baffle me, but closely missing two headshots in the dark before you get accustomed to aiming and enemy wobbling is forgivable. Right after the webm he deals with the zombie confidently.

>>343048296
Stick a trackball in a controller or make the joystick work like a mouseball (obviously with some kind of Lift Off or 1/4 sensitivity switch, maybe make pressing the joystick in activate focus mode?), and Joysticks work fine.

People just have it stuck in their heads that if your joystick is all the way to the left, that doesn't mean "I am looking at something far to my left", that means "I am turning to the left as fast as possible". Velocity controls like that are inaccurate.

>>343048436
Doesn't impair you all that much, unless you're being bondaged or something and your freedom of movement in your arms is restricted.
>>
>>343048345
This is NOT mouse movement. Is he using a fucking trackpad?
>>
>>343048116
Don't these fags have a job to review games? How can they be this bad?
>>
>>343049592
Well, you didn't start a thread with this, and this is an entirely different issue. The player doesn't seem to grasp the concept of melee spacing.

My comments about aiming throughout are made with M+KB in mind, and I still stand by them. There is a clear adjustment in this very video https://youtu.be/v_uJ47oKHY0?t=7m44s
>>
>>343048116

Maybe it's just harder to melee neemies in SS3 than in SS2 and 1?

In SS2 you had to bait them into taking a swing at you and come in after the damage point. Or be $wag and parry their attack with your wrench's physical model.
>>
>>343050386
That said, maybe I'm just l33t because I'd regularly bait guards in Thief 1 and 2 to duel them, I'd take on Pseudogiants in Shadow of Chernobyl with my knife without taking damage, and I actually managed to take down the two fucking Highlanders in Dunes in Serious Sam 1, with my knife, without loading or dying in the middle of it.

Your post has so far been the only mentioning of SJW. This is because whoever Polygon got to display that gameplay is either a zombie or somebody completely unfamiliar with learning from repeated actions, like letting themselves get bashed to shit while trying to melee an enemy.
>>
Honestly this kinda music and Medical from SS2 don't fit the game imo but I sure can groove to them. I turned music off at first in 2 until they used the more fitting stuff on the next deck and it got me way more immersed. It's grown on me over time though. I can see why they wouldn't use it in the remake but it damn well better be an option.

There's not very much to dumb down, SS1 is a pretty straightforward shooter.
I wonder how many people who only played SS2 are going to complain that it took too much inspiration from Bioshock because they took out all the RPG stuff.

I never thought it that way, to me that soundtrack always sounded a bit somber. Like the high of killing things from the other levels has sorta died down and you realize now that this used to be a bustling space station filled with people doing their jobs, but now they're all dead and all that's left is robots and mutants. I've always interpreted it as sorta like thoughtful wandering music.

desu most of that was already in Ultima Underworld. SS was basically just a refinement of that game. For instance, everybody is dead in SS and story is mostly told by transmissions and audiologs because the devs disliked the way that conversations in UU pulled the player out of the game and into a different screen with new controls, but couldn't think of a better way to handle dialogue. So to sidestep the problem, they killed everyone.

You literally don't even know anything about any of these. You know Polygon is absolute garbage, so how do you know that they didn't even try the controls for leaning or prone (also, there's multiple segments in the game where you have to go prone to reach items).

We know nothing about a customizable HUD but the original didn't have much for that anyway, it was just toggles for a few things.

And what the fuck are you going off about the elevator music, they didn't even get NEAR the elevator in this video, so stop spouting bullshit. The elevator music may as well be in since they are trying to be somewhat faithful to the original.

Yeah. In the tweet shown in the video where Gies says it's him playing he's clearly talking about the gameplay video he posted 4 minutes earlier, not the Polygon video.

Forgot to say my favorite soundfont for System Shock is ChoriumRevA. I specifically recommend this for SS1, but you could try other ones to if it doesn't suit you.

For Doom and other Doom engine games, I love PC51d.

Some soundfonts are better with specific games and/or engines at some times. In my experience, there hasn't been a jack of all trades that really got it with every game I tested.

>>
>>343062583
Of course it installs as a midi driver, that's how these programs work, but you can just fire up the MIDIs in MPC-HC after selecting a soundfont and it's just easy as that.

I'm in the process of recording 2 songs with the ChoriumRevA soundfont and I'll post later with the comparison of the original MIDI and Mac OS versions, to just show it off.
>>
>>343062759

Ok here, I recorded 3 examples of the MIDIs being played in a soundfont called ChoriumRevA, some comparisons can be a little hard to make because:

1. The video upload for DOS Executive seems to show a messed up midi playback.
2. Reactor's DOS video is slower and also different than the MIDI I have (from the game files).
3. MAC OS versions are generally different in some areas of the songs.

Reactor:

ChoriumRevA MIDI Soundfont: https://a.pomf.cat/vwnmjp.mp3
Original DOS MIDI sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCl0jBbljDQ&list=PL98D785CC7AB4E049&index=4
MAC OS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfjIpc_Lbjk

Security (probably the best comparison):

ChoriumRevA: https://a.pomf.cat/qnnfdr.mp3
OG MIDI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iB1dkfUYRJk
MAC OS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qBe3qo2uuA

Executive:

ChoriumRevA: https://a.pomf.cat/kufdzm.mp3

BUT I CANT FUCKING FIND IT

>>
>>343060460
Maybe, I haven't ever used anything like that myself, where you rolling a ball with a finger to indicate the position. Currently, the closest thing consoles controllers seem to have to mouse level control for aiming is the gyro in the WiiU pad, apparently. The Wii Nunchuck thing also controlled pretty well, when it was used specifically for pointing to aim, anyway.

It's interesting to me that console companies haven't tried to make a better control method like has been described for FPS, considering how big of a market it is on consoles.
