Are you excited for the system shock remaster /v/?
>>
Oh wow hadn't heard about this. Is it both games or just the first one? Did they make any changes to the gameplay or is it just a graphical overhaul?
>>
>>343040918
It's a full on modern reboot of system shock 1, being done by Night Dive Studios. The same people who released the system shock 1 and 2 on steam.

more for ss3 myself.
>>
>>343040339

looks better than that shitty black mesa game that took 20 years to make
>>
>>343040339
Well, it's past the year of 2010 so it's going to be shit, so no.

>SS1 remake coming
>SS2 is still just fine the way it is
>SS3 coming with Warren Spector hopefully remembering how to make a game
>Prey will probably be great

What a time to be alive.
>>
>>343042216
epic mickey wasn't even a bad game desu
He just should have been working on something else.
I believe in Warren
>>
>>343042216
The SS1 remake looks pretty good from what I've seen. I'm impressed they're choosing to stay as true to original's color palette and visual style.

Yeah, nah, it'll be shit.

Looks OK
They are taking it in a completely different direction to the original
More hand holding
Streamlined everything
Its not gonna replace the original

yes it is. the original looks and plays like dogshit, maybe now people can finally get into the series

Still mad they're going with potato face Shodan.
I understand they're trying to refine SS1 look, but she just looks fat, plus she's looking up instead of down how she supposed to
>>
>>343047745
I'm not the person you're replying to, but the interface in SS1 is pretty shit.
The enemy AI is shit too. You can get by most of the game just leaning around corners shooting at idiot robots who just stand there because they don't know how to walk around corners.
I still think it's great though, if you think of it as a dungeon crawler rather than a shooter
>>
>>343040339
Old System Shock:
>Pick up audiologs and listen to them to both learn more about the story and find information needed to progress
>Could hold up to seven weapons, plus a shitload of ammo, patches, grenades and various other bullshit
>Kickass techno soundtrack

New System Shock:
>All information is spoonfed to the player
>Two-weapon limit + tiny-ass grid inventory that ensures you can't carry jack shit
>"Ambient" soundtrack

Hard pass.
>>
>>343050779
did we watch the same video? I saw 6 weapon slots
>>
>>343049813
does the shodanface give simulated blowjobs?
>>
>>343047745
hud is shit with loads of unnecessary visual noise
inventory is absolute dogshit with pages everywhere generating unnecessary clicks (like those list articles on clickbait sites <next page 11 of 23>)
enemies are stationary (some can limp around a bit, but following you is too much work)
shooting enemies are mostly hitscan so it all boils down to lean2win, aka pop a shot before they can react.
i'm glad they're getting rid of these atrocities
>>
>>343050920
Depends on if the lower slots are for weapons or not
>>
>>343051007
Most likely for implants
>>
god this shit is a waste of money
>>
>>343050779
it's gonna be on consoles so yeah everything will be streamlined and simple as fuck
>>
>>343050779
>SS
>techno
techno is ss2 m8 (although i'd rather call it dnb), ss1 is elevator music and funky midis. Nightive ceo dude said on reddit ama they have SS1 dnb mixes in reboot
>>
>>343050932
it would be extremely painful
>>

>>
>>343051748
You're a big guy.
>>
>>343047745
I like ss1, but you can't deny that of the two, the dirst game is more deserving of a remake.
>>
>>343052825
haha dude, very nice!
>>
>that tri-op laptop
Oh my god
I need it
>>
>>343051065
I hope not, implants in SS2 were shit
>>
Can't wait for another good original RPG game to get turned into a generic shooter with generic minor character progression elements
>>
>>343054187
implants in ss1 don't work the same as 2 they are just gadgets like you would get in metroid
>>
>>343054347
I don't remember any implants in ss1

unless you're talking about shit like the stamina packs and the nightvision packs that wear off after a few minutes
>>
>>343040339
If its not 1:1 then no I'm not looking forward to it.
>>
>>343054275
ss1 is not an rpg
>>343054443
they are just gadgets like the torch, targeting systems, shield etc
they do get upgrades but you just go and find them

>>
>>343041209
They didn't keep the music?

Whilst it was MIDI it managed to have a pleasant futuristic vibe to it.
>>
>>343041209
this is certainly not pre-alpha thats for sure
>>
>>343041209
ok seems they went with the boring "eerie orchestral" thing... complete with the cliché "low Inception french horn hit at the end"...

*sigh*

yes I critique music in real life, this is bland shit.
>>
>>343048520
agreed; this is just basic orchestral rehash

for reference (this is what they should base the remastered soundtrack on):

>>
>>343054752
not in the gameplay they've showed, it's all ambient
just remixes of the original tunes is way better

>>
>>343040339
Never played it, so I'm excited to have a chance.
>>
>>343048901
I appreciate the effort, but this looks dumbed down as fuck.

Also soundtrack, wtf is this shit...

At least they got shodan's voice almost right.
>>

>>343052971
Thanks
>>
>>343055876
they are launching a kickstarter tomorrow dunno when the demo will be available but pretty soon i would say
>>
>>343055643
that could work. maybe lacking a bit of "trance" blipblip elements tho...
>>
>>343054347
>>343054443
>>343054590
Implants in SS1 are consumables (they're hypos in SS2)
Torch, target, etc are mfd upgrades
>>
>>343040339
Not anymore.
>>
Holy shit I just looked at the specs for it on steam...
16 gigs recommended? not surprised since it uses Unity... Unity games have an odd tendency to use tons of RAM. Basically they seem to load the WHOLE game assets in RAM even if not needed at the time...
Happened with POLLEN, with RUST, result? takes ages to load... Wastes tons of RAM for... nothing...
>>
>>343055876
Yes, they will publish demo on steam, gog and humble store along with kikestarter campaign
>>
>>343047745
this. these people are fucking stupid. if the remaster on steam didnt crash at resolutions higher than 1024x728 it wouldn't need to be remastered because it still plays fine. i don't get the cult around only the second one, it plays even fucking worse and enemies are even worse. at least ive fucking died in 1
>>
>>343056087
well, to be fair, to have persistent corpses and shit like a game as old as Shock does, you need to keep the whole level in memory at all times
>>
>>343056129
>buying it on Steam
DRMfags can leave

inb4 Portablefags
>>
>>343041209
it looks so slow, i hope thats just "cinematic", you can move very fast in system shock 1
>>
It looks great, dunno why everyone's complaining about every minute fucking detail.
>>
>>343056028
nah they are patches and "military grade neural interface" is the only thing described as an implant and the other things are hardware addons for that
>>
>>343051221
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CalFsdE4tA
>>
>>343040339
it's going to be shit like all the other remasters
>>
>>343056165
yes but what I noticed is stuff like POLLEN just loads everything, EVERYTHING, even things that are not likely to be needed anytime in the near future
>>
>>343056242
it doesn't have drm, you can play it with steam not even installed. does gog version not crash on higher resolutions? thats what i thought, shut the fuck up because they are 1:1 exactly the same windows 98 ports made by a fan without sourcecode
>>
>>343056538
it doesn't crash at 1366x768
>>
>>343056647
i just tried in the steam version and it does. the problem only occurs once you open up the data viewer and try to open a message. it then slows down and wont allow you to shoot or interact with the level. if you press escape it will freeze/crash. are you sayin it works in the gog version?
>>
>>343056831
it always crashed for me when I used to try 1080 but just gave it a run and no crashes on 1366x768 after a while

>>343057212
i hope the remaster has a "classic" skin or something because the game looks really nice at higher resolutions
>>
Alright so I've been ignoring these games for way more than I should have.
I should start with 1 right? I think I got both from some sale or humble bundle some time ago.
>>
>>343057547
they are very different. i personally enjoy the first one more but more people like the second one more. the stories are largely independent and will pretty much tell you exactly whats going on while its going on so just check out a video for either one and play whichever seems more interesting to you
>>
>>343057705
also if you try to play 1, with what we have right now, most configurations are done in sshock.ini found in the installation folder. everything, including mapping inputs (default is absolutely horrible) are done here. it isn't as easy to set up as system shock 2 so consider that

I just come across this: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=211.0

Really? It's gonna be a fucking kickstarter? And it's a reboot of the series?

I can't put into words how I feel right now.
>>
>>343058298
I mean, it's not like you have to back it, it's most certainly going to be funded regardless.

And "reboot" doesn't mean much, unless they're planning on changing shit.
