Its a fun game friend. Better than xcom 2 in my opinion. Install the long war mod as well. Allows for a tad more variation in missions.

Shiv's are actually extraordinarily useful in Long War if you ever pick that up. You should get the expansion if you haven't, beat that, and then install LW if you're feeling up to it.

Play through the vanilla game once on a non-pansy difficulty to get used to the mechanics. Then download Long War and play it the way the devs intended.

Complete overhaul.
Added lots of items. Made enemies smarter. Doubled number of classes to eight. Turned the expansion's single mech class into eight unique ones.
It's pretty great, except for the lategame bloat of "Have twenty elite enemies with three times your health"

its good, much simpler than old XCom but good.
really though what absolutely killed it for me is the spawn system and the game-y way of dealing with it. basically you only open new sight lines with one unit at the start of your turn, and congo line everyone else behind them, otherwise you'd engage in the middle of your turn and it fucks you up. i'd rather immerse myself and move my squad around in a tacticool fashion, but the alien spawn mechanics ruin that approach.
