It's a cheap/comedic, simplistic knockoff of Quake, Doom style games that was never meant to be taken as seriously as people who think is some kind of masterpiece, it's fun for what it is, but level design is very basic and wave based enemies doesn't last that long without getting repetitive.

I never really liked Serious Sam until I had my worst case of vidya stagnation ever. Didn't play anything for nearly 2 months until one day I got the worst hankering for a basic and quick shooter.

Beat Serious Sam double pack in a day and still playing vidya til today.

Eh the tons of different enemies at least keeps it fairly interesting.
I'm playing TFE for the first time and the lack of visual variety in the levels is really wearing me out.

Other than that there is a catacombs segment and time of the day changes, but theme stays heavily egyptian.

metropolis is the worst part of the game for me.
>>
why are insulting like that? i like the game but he has a very good point when he says that because of they way some enemies move/attack in the game, some times all you nedd to is making a circle an shoot inside of it or outside if enemies can block you from keeping doin a circle, the enemies just stay in the midle of it and keep missing you. you don´t need to be precise either, just a simple circle, you dont need to be prrecise like in most shthup.
>>
>>343038463
It's a very well-made Doom clone that surpasses the rest of the games in its class, particularly in terms of level design and the feel and responsiveness of movement.

>nedd to is making a circle an shoot inside of it
Good luck doing a circle when most of the time shit spawns from all directions.
Mindless circlestrafing is a very easy way to die. Running backwards is dangerous in so many cases as well if you don't remember maps by memory as you can easily run into enemy spawn.
Hell, Karnak gets extremly obnoxious with that where enemies would spawn from 3 directions 10 meters away from you or you get traped in a dead end.

There's definitely precision required because missed attack from kleer on serious is going to cost you 20+% hp easily.
Survival maps are all about precision, timing memorization and prioritizing specific enemies so you don't get blown the fuck up while trying to dodge shit coming from all directions.

Strafing and circlestrafing are part of the gameplay but reducing it to it is the same as reducing shmups to "just dodge left and right"

>>343041371
Well, it depends, but for me is really easy to keep track of where the enemies are, even more, something that a FUCKING LOVE about serious sam is having to keep track of enemies that I can't see on my screen because thats something that I love to do in any shooter, really; just move around and quickly do 180~ to shoot someone that you were keeping track of. It depends on the map and the enemies. One of the things that I also love about the game is figuring out the best way to deal with enemies in a especific wave/area and mixing up how I deal with them (I like to repeat areas that I loved). Also, it's not hard to remember areas because it's like playing chess to me, if you try to remember every single piece on it own its going to be hard as ball, but if you keep track of them as a group it's waaaay easier. Some dudes that you can't avoid circle strafing are those angels that shoot purple spheres, since they can turn faster than you so I kill them backing off in a straight line or dodging them at the last moment to kill other enemies around me, so sometimes it can be usefull but if you can keep track of an enemy that is outside your screen, strafing is the best way to prevent damage in general, and I love to see enemies that tried to kill me from behind barely missing on the side of my screen. So, it depends on how good you are at keeping track of enemies, really, because I was not talking about mindless strafing. Strafing is powerfull as shit in this game.

i'll probably give it a go after checking what i can get online for the game. i'lll probably play more with the areas of the map than the enemies themselfs and see what i can came up with. any ideas or suggestion you would like to talk about? i was thinking about using the hitscan enemies to limit certain areas od the map like if they wwere poison or something withoit making them annoying. that's something that i would like to change about the game, the hitscan enemies add something the game by basically prevents you from touching an area w/o getting hurt but that potential gets destroyed by how annoying they are. the spitter from l4d came close to what i imagine that enemy to be like. hitscan enemies are dissapointing but that concept has so much potential in this game, or scenarios that change frequently! i'll see if i can create something like that; i highly doubt it.

>>
>>343049245
I always thought that the hitscan enemies should have something like a visible laser sight line in front of them.
When they lock on to you they'd stand still in their position and start firing in the direction they're aiming at (instead of tracing the player), turning the area inside the laser beam into a damage dealing zone.
Same goes for the shotgunners where a small cone shaped area in front of them would flash up instead.
That way you can have hitscan enemies that are still avoidable and also have an actual game mechanic to them.
>>
>>343049725
Yeah, that's the concept that I was thinking about, because they can keep denying areas but in a circumstance that you can avoid to some degree without relying on your hears or knowing they are going to be there from a previous play. I was imagining bing circles or something similar on the floor that would start transparent and get more dense to represent how much damage you can take if you stay on them, and based on the shape/color of that area marken on the floor, you could get an idea of where they are and kill them. Or eneies that would trow a ball on the air, wth very noticiable clues so you can catch up and see where that poisonous are is going to be. I love the concept of adding variables to the fights using the map itself thanks to those enemies, but the way they are in the game right now is just dissaapointing and add boring and lame difficulty to the game, but the concept is fantastic. Lasers and sounds to the already existing enemies seems pretty good too, I just don't like hitscan enemies so I scraped them altogether in my vision of that concept. I'm exited to see what is possible to do with the editor. I hope I find a lot of free time in the future because I'm loving this game.

the first one is incredibly dull, thanks to the shitty level design.

second encounter is legitimately great though. theres much more variety and craziness.

no one likes ss2

now ss3... for some reason people here really love it, but half the game is literally remains of a shitty generic military fps, and the second half, while better, is just a clusterfuck. the game design is shockingly bad.
>>
>>343050802
TFE has a better encounter design than TSE. TSE is a bit too gimmicky and unbalanced.

>half the game is literally remains of a shitty generic military fps
Memes.
>>
>>343050526
Probably not. I was thinking about designing levels that would use/abuse teleporters, that weird thing with the gravity inside the spheres or weird locations like. Basically, trying to fight against the desing of the map more than the enemies alone (without making it annoying or a labyrinth). That was just me with a wishfull thinking because I love the idea of being in a moving plataform or an area with different plataforms that could help you dodge damage but would force you to think a lot more about were enemies are not only around you but also on top of you. I just love keepint track of enemies that I can't see so I was thinking about a map like without knowing much what you can/can't do in these programs, but I have an idea that would mix the teleporters and that thing with the gravity to really create a fucking mess of a play in that game. If I see that I can create a map with moving houses or something like that, that would be great but I think I'm just dreaming, I let myself get too exited with the idea of creating a map, so I0m probably just talking shit. Atleast I kwon I can abuse those teleporters.

BFE final level is "epic", but kind of bad. It's literally S+M1, which is not true for a TFE and TSE. TFE arena is a true challenge that feels suitable, and the second part, the run to the Great Pyramid, is a more traditional "epic" sequence.

Sam doesn't need to be ashamed of arenas. They are the best part of the games.
