Exactly. That and the slow walk speed and weird walk clinging physics brought done X4-6 in my eyes. I've since come around to enjoy X4 and 5, but those three simply pale to their predecessors. As far as I'm concerned X3 is followed up by the Zero series.

Also, did anyone else instantly default to Flash Bomb when you absolutely want something dead? I remember not even knowing what worked well on the boss as a kid, but using Flash Bomb anyway because I thought it did the most damage and I just wanted Frost Man dead

Same thing with Duo. I'd go "Holy shit this guy is wrecking me" and spam flash bomb because I thought it was the only way to take him down before getting destroyed

I don't hate MM8, it's a fun platformer. I just think it has a lot of gimmicks in its stages that make it feel like it's not much of a Mega Man game at all.

I didn't know Legends was that old, the game is a personal favorite of mine. I really feel like it doesn't get the respect it deserves, it has a fairly niche following all things considered. Plus the Bunnyhop video on MML1 irked me hard, more so when he criticized circle strafing combat and never mentioned the interconnected dungeons.

>>343028647
Those auto scrolling parts were fucked. If you stood still at the back of the scrolling segment and didn't hold forward on jumps you'd fall and die. You had to hold forward on every jump and then hold back to make sure you still had space for the jumps coming up. Plus they were lengthy segments with no checkpoints in them.

I'd say the low damage Bass does on bosses compensates for his ridiculous movement options. I mean, being able to double jump out of a dash outright breaks the platforming.

Additionally I find Dynamo Man kind of easier to deal with as Bass, because he can just shoot the healing things from the ground level unlike Mega Man who has to rely more on the weakness weapon.
>>
>>343037485
As I said I have only done mega man playthroughes. I hear for bass levels are easier but boss fights are much tougher. Does bass take more damage? I know he has the double jump and weak shot in eight directions.

Best robot master from that game, such a cool design.

>>343037912
Maybe the extra maneuverability is hindered by the GBA's small screen, because that's the way I played it.
>>
>>343037726
Bass mode is way easier though, at least that's how I always felt. Double jump is stupidly safe and makes a lot situations where you would die as mega man avoidable.

Don't lie. You can't buster-only MM2.
>>
>>343037965
Bass' buster does one point of damage before the boss goes into hit invulnerable flashing state. However, he can buy upgrades from the shop after a few bosses that turns his damage output into a monster, even beating Mega Man because no need for charging shots.

You should, playing the original snes version is a much more enjoyable experience. I honestly feel that the only reason mm&b was ported to gba was capcom wanted to have a classic mega man on the gba and realized they can just port mm&b since "those dumbass americans never got this, they'll eat this up". Yes, I honestly loved that MM9 was a return to form of the Megaman I knew growing up. His NES form is iconic. Higher res sprites don't change anything except distract the designers from making the controls tight.

>complete with all the glitches of the old games.
What glitches?
>>
>>343040853
Not him, but I think the reason why 9 and 10 were so good was because the artstyle is so strongly associated with the classic gameplay. By upping design and resolution, by necessity you make a new type of mega man game like 7 or 8. The artstyle affects the gameplay in that instance. Sure you can make a mega man game with high rez sprites, but plays like classic mechanically. But something with definently feel off. The physics would need to be tweaked.

The European covers for Mega Man games were handled by Mega Man Central at the time, which was some kind of a separate branch of Capcom Europe that specifically handled the series' games here. thats a legitimate complaint only if youre looking to get the capsule, heart container, and all reploids. otherwise it doesnt matter.
RNG may be a big theme, but it's only present in a few stages. everything else spawns in a static manner like all prior X games.

Iunno man. What if somebody wanted to 100% the game and get everything?

If they fuck up once, they are pretty much locked out of it. Also, It just seems to me that X6 in general seems poorly put together. Some areas just seem so unplanned not very thought out. As if they were running out of time so they just put a random series of obstacles and some platforming sections and hoped it was beatable.

because maybe i do 100% runs so i can get ready for *GDQ
X6 is not that bad even when you 100% run it.

i dont enjoy how nothing is in your way for X5 or how there's little to no challenge. You can just shoot the laser and then crash the shuttle, and your RNG chances of having zero still playable after it are 1/3 if you start as X in it, and then since you have the final stage unlocked you can just beat the game with out even having to do a fucking thing

maybe i want to play a game to get to the end.

but yes, 100% runs can get fucked up in a single mistake and thats what i like about it. if im not performing up to par it will show

Wolfang has random fireballs falling. Scaravich has random geometric shapes spawning (and if memory serves, they return for a Gate stage).

Also, you can get trapped in a dead end (with 9 lives because reploids are worth a life and fucking everywhere) and be forced to waste them all because you don't have the shit that hurts High Max. Try and defend that game design. You can't, because it's objectively terrible.

The entire game reeks of low budget and last-minute assembly. The aforementioned geometric enemy designs in Scaravich's stage, the constant eagles, the constant recycling of the Heatnix miniboss. Shield Sheldon's stage ending moments after it starts. It's a mess and I have no idea why you can forgive so much.

I have to assume it was your first game in the series or something.

I was never able to find a rom of this. I want to see just how bad it is firsthand.

in nightmare mode
>Scaravich has random geometric shapes spawning (and if memory serves, they return for a Gate stage).
Yes and yes but what would be the point of the level if it was just RNG rooms with nothing to deal with?
>be forced to waste them all because you don't have the shit that hurts High Max
And you know what, that should be pretty fucking obvious if you pay attention to the introduction he has in the intro stage when he first appears and you CANT DAMAGE HIM. its your own fault if you dont fucking pay attention to this

>The entire game reeks of low budget and last-minute assembly
it had a rushed as shit development timeframe, many of which caused bugs that are present but hidden in X6. It didn't have the graceful development like X6 had.

>I have to assume it was your first game in the series or something.
I played the series backwards, but even then I still would defend X7 over X5.

The only reason X6 gets so much flack is because people expect more of the same when its pushing people out of their comfort zone and cant adapt. If you can tolerate it then you realize theres no real problem with it aside from getting good
