My only concern is that their trying to make this into SS2. So goodbye kickass MIDI music and distinct color palette of each level.

And into the trash it goes. A remake is all I wanted, the fact they're now going to rape it with their "modern, more progressive vision" means it's going to be literal trash.

RE level design wasn't perfect to begin with, and REmake made the level design more contrived and expanded compared to original.

This one is STREAMLINING the level design, as in making the levels smaller and more appealing to modern retards.

Classic case of "WE THINK WE CAN DO BETTER AND 1-UP THE ORIGINAL DEVELOPERS".

That's what almost always happens when you get a new studio to remake something they didn't work on in the past.

I can gurantee you that Sony's Crash Bandicoot remakes will also be dumbed down and altered.
>>
>>342978980
In the article they say they aren't content with just remaking original and would rather make their own vision for the game instead and also on the kickstarter page.
If they aren't sticking to original design and following their own "vision" then it's pretty fucking obvious that it's going to be completely fucking different.
>>

>"WE THINK WE CAN DO BETTER AND 1-UP THE ORIGINAL DEVELOPERS".

>>
>>342979370
They aren't. The studio behind System Shock Enhanced Edition is making this you dumb fuck.

>>
>>342979571

>>
>>342977442

System Shock has always had good controls. If you mean does it have mouselook, yes, but there's been a mod for that years before EE, you daft cunt.
>>
>>342979905
They just ripped off the System Shock Portable mod wholesale and them smacked them with a cease and desist to shut them up. It's good because SSP was good, but it's in no way their own work.
>>
>>342979905
Definitely much better than playing on DOS.
You can set higher resolution including widescreen, though widescreen mode stretches the UI while the game itself is rendered in Vert- (as in top and bottom of non-interface area is cropped to make a 16:9 aspect ratio).
However going beyond 1024x576 resolution is buggy, very performance intensive and crashes the game.
The controls are rebindable and definitely more modernized and you can use mouse to look around, however you still need to press a button to switch from mouse look to "point and click" mouse in order to interact with puzzles ands hit.
>>

>code to door lazily written next to it
>no audiolog screen

>2 weapon limit
>no overcharge for energy gun
>no cyberpunk techno music
>literally the same title as the original

I didn't even finish SS1 or SS2, but god dammit. Not like this. Not like this. What a shame. And console kiddies are already demanding a PS4 port. Do these fuckers even understand what makes SS1 unique? Without the weird hud and the cheesy cyberpunk shit SS1 is a generic space survival game with a low budget and terrible animations. And this will replace System Shock, one of the most revolutionary PC games of the 90s.
>>
>>342978463

Polygon's vid is new one from the reboot version, since they scrapped the remake and decided to make a modernized and streamlined reboot instead.

What's the point unless Sony buys the rights to this series? It's honestly a huge waste of time desu.
>>
>>342980924
It doesn't, the original video didn't have that shitty weapon limit for starters or the door code literally written next to it.
The original also still had the SS1-style UI with audiologs/diary etc as well. The original looked faithful, this looks exactly as they described, a streamlined and modernized. Because modern fucking casuals can't handle a game like System Shock.

For fucks sake, it doesn't even have the point and click mechanics anymore.

Which kickstarter page? It's not up yet.

It says nothing about changing levels, or streamlining anything, or their own vision. All it actually says is this:

>Puzzles (or I'd say relative lack of them) are also heavily dumbed down from SS1.
Yeah, I agree. Hacking in System Shock feels like actual hacking. Changing shit that implicitly changes more shit and it's up to you to figure out the hidden semantics of it all. SS2 is just click spam. Fuck, even Bioshock did hacking better than SS2.
But on the other hand System Shock 1 doesn't have a penalty if you die, as long as you have disabled cyborg conversion for the current level.

>>342981825
The core of the game is 10/10. Too bad the upgrade and degradation system makes it almost unplayable. Is there a mod that allows me to use all weapons regardless of level and levels while upgrading them increases the damage/aim, ala Deus Ex?

Yeah, and wanna know what fucking happened to Deus Ex when it was ported to PS2?
The levels got butcherd to be 1/4 their original size, some dialogue was censored (by removing entire fucking lines), the enemy AI and recoil got completely dumbed down among many other changes.

But do tell me what an amazing and faithful experience the PS2 port of Deus Ex is.

The only reason why the original "faithful remake" build looked "faithful" was because they showed off jack shit.

They showed off barely anything in the first trailer.

SS1 does everything it sets out to do well, and it does it with very little chaff. The game seriously has no flaws. SS2 was too ambitious. It took out old mechanics, dumbed down the level design, and everything it introduced was half assed and poorly thought out. It's still a good game, but it's just couldn't stick a clean landing. It's jank as fuck and not fully realized. Going from SS1 to SS2 is like going from King's Field to the Souls games.
>>

Not really. Half of it is liable to change (HUD, animations, diary entries, etc.) and things like overcharge could perhaps just not have been shown. And the two weapon limit may be a console thing. Like someone said, you can probably keep multiple weapons in your inventory. Maybe you can have hotkeys for all of them in the PC version. We just don't know yet.

doesn't look completely terrible but it isn't gonna replace the original
they are really taking it in a slower horror type direction with the ambient noise soundtrack
i have a feeling they won't even bother with goofy stuff like the jet powered rollerskates
never liked the addition of mouselook since it feels like you don't interact with things directly and just turns into a run and gun shooter game

>Still doesn't deny the fact that most games these days (which do not require a powerhouse) play 99% the same apart from the control scheme.
And that's why this is an abomination. The original is delightfully unique, BECAUSE it's an obscure PC game from the 90s. That's 90% of the charm. If you played it you would know that.

Yeah, the fucking charm of having an outdated control scheme the moment it released.
But let's give them the benefit of the doubt and say well, how the fuck were they supposed to know that DOOM will release before them, and say that the control scheme got outdated the moment Quake released, which still makes it 20 years of being a clunky as shit scheme.

If you want the 90s charm (which to you means the idiotic controls) just play the original version of the game.

Even Witcher 3 on PC still has heavily consolized HUD and to say otherwise is objectively wrong.
Just compare Witcher 1 UI to 2 and 3.
Or compare Risen 1 UI to Risen 2 and 3 UI.

It's all about console "parity" these days to ensure that consoles aren't far behind PC and developing multiple branches increases development costs and since publishers are too greedy, you get identical interfaces instead, which is what happened with Witcher 2 and 3.

You seem to be misunderstanding what I'm telling you. Sony isn't going to do remakes of Crash. The guy on stage specifically said "The original Crash 1, Crash 2, and Crash Warped fully remastered from the ground up for Playstation 4." You can even go back and watch very carefully what he says here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7yKx8iVti0
Bonus: The Crash shadow that they use while he's walking to the center is the Skylander Crash, which then spins into the Crash 2/3 model
He didn't say remake whatsoever, remakes are different entirely. A remake of a game would be the PS2 version of Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories where it's based on the GBA original but the gameplay and graphics have changed significantly from it. Another remake is be Metroid Zero Mission where level structure is changed, a brand new leg of the game is added, etc.
This shit is going to be a remastered collection like the ones they did for Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter. As in it'll be the original games but with some small added features that don't drastically alter the gameplay, something like widescreen resolution and analog support for the first game, and not brand new games based on the originals.

I don't know why I'm even bothering with you, you're not shitposting about this either you're just this retarded and will probably just see this one sentence and either miss the point entirely (again) or ignore everything in this post and continue being stupid.
>>
>>342982802
>And if it's on the xbone, what? It's not like there haven't been hundreds of PC games ported to consoles. For example Deus Ex.
Titles developed as multiplatforms are restricted by the lowest common denominator because you cannot make 3 different games. If it was supposed to be a PC exclusive, this means the game will inevitably suffer one way or another due to the many limitations of consoles (controller choice, performance, update elasticity, creativity/rating limitations based on getting your license on to a single proprietary hardware whose creator may not agree with - see Nintendo for the golden example)

Yes.
SS3 is being made by Otherside Entertainment, a studio formed with some of the original Looking Glass (the original SS devs) employees.

SS1 reboot is being made by indie chucklefucks called Night Dive who are known to hunt licenses for old abandonware games and make them paid titles instead, they are the same people who made shit like Turok Ex and killed that fan progress on Blood source port.
>>
>>342985624

>>
>>342987265
I know, but Witcher 3 was announced as having separate interfaces for consoles and PC, a statement on which they later backpeddalled. Same with the visual downgrade from 2014 build despite the 2014 build visuals being very easily doable on PC.

TW2 PC release was very clearly unfinished and rushed for the quick buck because the company was about to go under. The game was very clearly being made for X360 already at that point in time, for fucks sake the director said Demon's Souls was his main inspiration for Witcher 2 and that he wanted to make the game more accessible for console audiences. Enhanced Edition is in reality the finished version of the game while the original was very clearly a paid public beta.

You system shock bros are foaming at the mouth over the reboot/remake shit a little too much.

But I'm not really sure what to make of this. On one hand the color scheme and art style matches the original really well especially with the memorable sloped wall/ramp design they have in the first area. But it seems a bit... bare bones in terms of design. System Shock 2 pretty much was a remake of SS1 if anything, but it tried really hard to push the envelope. Not recreate what was there before.

Looking Glass Studios was always about creating really heavy simulation based gameplay. At the time the graphics and control schemes were super advanced for their time. In fact in an interview their mission was to assist in the VR forefront by at least doing good software. If looking glass was still around I would imagine they wouldn't be doing "AA" games like this.

That's right. You have to read your own diary to solve the first puzzle, now it's right next to the door reducing that entry to pointless flavor text that 90% of people are going to skip. That's objectively worse. Also sets a precedent for things to come.

>and art style
I too remember the original having bloom so blinding that it makes the Syndicate reboot look tame in comparison.
I too remember the original having chromatic aberration so overdone it looks like an anaglyph 3D game.
I too remember the original having tunnel vision tier depth of field.

Oh wait, I don't, because unlike you I actually fucking played the original game.

That seems like an incredible minor thing to flip the fuck out over.

No developer is ever going to make "X, exactly the same but with better graphics and more audio channels". For one they're repackaging the game for the shitty co sole market. So just don't think of it as a re ake of SS1, this k of it as some dongs game that was inspired by SS1

The "Unity looks bad" meme stems from Unity 4 and earlier versions which were pretty meh and from the fact that most of the games on Unity are made by relatively talentless indies that reused the stock assets and shaders instead of making their own. Basically from the incompetence of people using Unity, rather than Unity itself.
And Unity 5 is quite literally capable of basically the exact same shit as Unreal Engine 4 is, it's just that Unity 5 documentation is much worse than UE4 hence why UE4 is more popular.

It's not the puzzle itself, but of what it implies. If they change something as fundamental as the first puzzle, who knows what they are going to do to the rest. They added hand-holding to the very first puzzle, what is stopping them from applying that to the whole game. It's called foresight.

SS2 fags have finally managed to retroactively ruin SS1. I bet the people working on the remake don't like SS1 for what it is and only because it gave birth to SS2, which is why they try to turn it into SS2.

They supposedly did a great job on the Turok remaster though. You people should be glad there are companies out there willing to do something with dead gaming IP's. Otherwise they would become dust bin of history.

Now that you mention it, you seem to be absolutely right.

Yes, it totally makes sense that they would remake SS1 and not SS2 because they like SS2 more.

>great job
It's a fucking straight port of the N64 version with virtually no improvements beyond FOV and higher resolution.
They didn't even remove the fucking low draw distance hidden by obnoxious fog.

Yeah, because those games clearly are not longer available to just download online huh? Eat a bag of dicks you fucking shill.

I am glad they are remaking this classic. I haven't ever played this game because the controls sounded way too intimidating and the graphics are dated. I'm guessing it was supposedly a masterpiece of it's time.

I heard they have something similar to Bioshock's plasmids in the game so I am looking forward to using some fire and lightning on the splicer zombie guys.

You can mod it out bitch. Also there is an option for it in the game natively. Fucking idiot.

SS1 should have stayed in the dust bin if that meant avoiding a consolized remake so that PS4 kiddies can feel like they've played an influential game.

>>342991390
They are bringing it in line with SS2 because they probably think it tired to be SS2 but failed, while in reality its something else entirely. It's not scary, it's not about hardcore survival or resource management or atmosphere; It's about cheesy cyberpunk shit and point and click puzzles. There is nothing cyberpunk about SS2, it's just straight science fiction with some bio shit thrown in there for good measure.

If that was the case they would have added stats and classes, which as far as I know they haven't (thankfully).
