It has been said that /v/ is the worst forum for videogames except all the others that I have tried.
It's a shithole, but at least it's not any of the other shitholes.
I love anonymous posting and having threads that can last 2-48 hours. That's the only way to do it in my opinion.
/v/ is funny and insightful, but so contrarian and full of shit at times, it's really hard to take /v'/'s recommendations seriously. Also the ignorance of Console players against PC players, makes this place even less credible.
Also, 90% of the time the PC Fags are right, and as an Xbox one owner and a PC owner, Microsoft cucked the fuck out of me, I should have stayed Ps4+Wii+PC forever.
It's shit, but not necessarily any more or less shit than most other sites. It's just shit for different reasons.
I think it's the best place to talk about video games. I know it has its fair share of problems, but I feel like the anonymity is perfect for discussion and avoiding circlejerks and drama.
Even though casuals now permeate it, /v/ is sadly the best option available.

It's not so much that they're bad people, but the community is so small and well-established that if you disagree with them you're not really a member of it. Because of the constant events that draw normalfags to this place and creation of boards that pander to them, 4chan in general has become almost normalfag tier when it comes to social acceptance. Almost every millennial University kid knows what /b/ is and even talk about seeing funny shit the night before. These are the same kind of people that lurk fucking 9gag. Because of this now corporations are shilling here more then ever because the site's potential to grow to even the top 100 in Alexa is good depending on how far Hiroyuki and the mods will go to attract "new users" (aka normalfags). So now /v/ is flooded by ebin memers, shills and retards from other shitty sites who will never go away because the people running this site want them here to attract crowds from more popular sites with similar consumer climates. Even a year ago niche game threads were able to be made and be rid of the noise but now the noise has grown too big and its almost impossible to have a thread free of the above cancer or any cancer at all.

As someone who has been on Neogaf for nearly a decade and was recently perma-banned. I will tell you that Neogaf really does have a hivemind or set way you must think and if you go against the grain the chance of getting banned (temp or perm) is pretty fucking high. I will say though that there are great small communities in there, where the cancer mainly stays to those main topics. I've talked to a lot of current and ex-members who agree that there are heavy issues with the mods and their egos and the way things are conducted if you disagree, especially when it comes to things such as, for example, "Link should be a girl." In most of those threads it's honestly bait unless you are a super PC/SJW - which many proudly identify there as.
Also with everyone posting those stupid PS4 drones and shit, you do realize this happens ever new console cycle where the console that is owned by a large majority (last gen was Xbox 360 for the large majority) you would think they were paid by Microsoft to post.
And with any gaming forum there are idiots that post stupid shit, didn't mean there were normal people who didn't want anything to with that shit.

I've been on a small counter strike server community forums and even the steam forums. Both of those are pretty bad, with rampant fanboyism on both for valve. Everywhere has biases and some more actively ban/mute/squelch people for voicing their opinions. I'm afraid to speak in neogaf, in regards to how bad sony has been for the ps4. As far as games go /v/ is the counter culture to dudebros. You won't see a lot of madden threads here (but we'll play rocket league for some reason) you won't see a lot of CoD threads here (but overwatch is spammed to oblivion).
In all actuality I come to /v/ to laugh at most people. The games I enjoy get overlooked here or memed to death. I don't fully understand the brand hate you guys get all riled up on because some developer made a shit game in the past so clearly all future games from said dev will also be shit. I also have a large backlog of games on the ps2, gamecube, and Xbox so I can't even discuss those at /vr/.
Those are a few reasons why I only use /v/ for a good chuckle every now and again, the other boards I frequent are vastly superior for a multitude of reasons.
