Not sure yet, but I feel it's a little pointless to upgrade now. The 970 doesn't max all games but at 1080 is does the job just fine.

I am genuinely curious. I haven't had any issues with PC games for the last 5 years. I mean sure there was a crash once in a while, but nothing gamebreaking or frustrating (I don't count modding).
Yet I see people talking so much about nvidia drivers fucking up their games, games not working in general for whatever reason.

It could be a number of reasons, though the general rule of thumb for graphics drivers is to not update them unless you absolutely have to. Nvidia's crap mostly only ever adds stuff that "optimizes" the games with their proprietary GeForce Experience. Worthless otherwise.
