While I am a fan of the DMC series, and was definitely not too pleased with this one coming into existence, I did pirate it on release to try it out. Gameplay was solid, and I 100% it. Love the soundtrack. I saw that it was 11 bucks with all the DLC, and I hadn't played Vergil's Downfall, so I decided what the hell and snatch it up. I know you can unlock white-hair Donte when you beat the game, but can anyone tell me if I can unlock coatless tank-top Donte?

Animation is hard. Pixel graphics scale up poorly, which is why many devs aren't doing that anymore, but doing actual fully drawn animations takes shitloads of time.
The problem is that most devs don't manage to create illusion of them being actually properly animated. Vanilla Ware gets close, but even that's not quite right. Usually you have animations like in Spelunky or Castle Crashers.

The PvE is hardly trivial. Enemy and area design is very good, it's got some of the best bosses of the series and it's overall very fun. The fact that it's more streamlined just makes it so there's less focus on exploration and player choice when it comes to progression. It's wierd that they did it like that, but it's not a deal braker.

the game seems pretty simple but once you start having to do short hops, flipping to walls, etc it gets pretty crazy
imo buy it and play the campaign which is basically a glorified tutorial, it's about 30-40 minutes and if you don't want more refund it
