Nintendo doesn't like innovation anymore. Just look at this year's E3. Everbody tried to bring in new ideas by working together with indie devs or tries to show off VR capabilities. Nintendo didn't.
Granted, they didn't have a presentation at E3 but they still did their own thing. And what they showed off was Pokemon and Zelda. While these 2 are huge franchises, it kinda shows the problem that Nintendo has with creating new IPs. Also, I bet in about 5 years Nintendo will do the same MS and Sony did this year (bringing in indie devs and presenting a VR system).

Their ports and remasters are fucking masterful. The next main Sonic game by Sonic Team's A-Team isn't coming till 2017. Their A-Team has been working on it for the past 5 years.

Japanese business is toxic and always has been. Short term gain overrides any form of long term interest, so investments are never made. Even companies like Sony have not invested enough into their networks.
