ITT: games that don't have enough flaws to be talked about on /v/
>>342877260
It's almost as if Sony, a billion dollar game publisher, spends millions and millions to market their 7/10 games and inflate their metacritic score the 2 weeks before and the 2 weeks after release.
I haven't forgotten about it

>>342878405
Would Nate's escape from that arm lock even work? seems like if they were holding him tight enough, he'd just injure himself.
what game is this
H-Hey guys...
>>342877632
I think your tin foil hat is wrapped too tight
>>342878605
That's actually about right. Unless you were to get into the multiplayer, which is worth full price IMO. I'm still into TLOU Factions though, so I don't want to pay $60.00 for multiplayer I'm not going to invest the time in.
>>342878405
How are these animations acceptable?
It looks like they're sped up tenfold
>>342877260
The lack of co-op at launch killed the game for me.

>>342879243
Y-you show him Sonybro!
>>342879243
To be fair, I thought it was ridiculous fanboism until I read the review. It's not even a review. It's the single worst "review" of a game I've ever read, and I've read some Polygon/Kotaku garbage that made me want to vomit. It's so utterly irrelevant and stupid that I would want it removed from any game's metascore.
>>342879232
>there are actually straight heterosexual males that play Vidya
Don't bully the ten Uncharted fans on /v/, please.
>>342879223
I almost feel bad for them.
Overwatch
Oddly enough its talked about still online, but prettymuch nobody even plays it. Hell, just today I was thinking if I should buy some game from the steam sales because I was bored. Then suddenly I remembered that Overwatch exists, I had genuinely forgotten that the game existed for like 2 weeks.
Played one round and wished I had forgotten that it exists. Nobody I know plays it anymore either so I guess thats why I feel that way.
>it's another /v/ is mad about a Sony exclusive episode

wow. you are retarded.
>>342878882
I've literally never seen better, more weighty melee animations in any other game outside of a cutscene. The price you have to pay for having them in the actual gameplay is the sliding-into-place. I really could care less about the sliding when the melee looks that good, though. Half the time the camera zooms in such a way that it hides your feet and you can barely notice anyway.
>>342880771
Actually is because most people can't afford a ps4 or the game
>>342880860
The "lunge" factor is just something I'm used to in Naughty Dog games. In TLOU factions, you can abuse the shit out of it to get lunging melee hits for an instant down. People still don't see it coming somehow.
>>342877260
I'll buy it out of the $5.00 Gamestop bargain bin just as I've done with every other Uncharted game.
>>342877260
How is the online multiplayer in this one?
It ended up being the best part of the last 2 so I'm wondering.
>>342878563
>>342879467
that review (pic related) is not worthy of being counted among the other critic reviews; it should be a user review. The guy just complains about the story and says nothing about the gameplay or graphics or anything else, probably because he never played the game and just watched youtube shit. It didn't even have a score attached to it. Someone at WP just arbitrarily threw a 4/10 on it when Metacritic told them all reviews must have scores.
>>342877260
Playing at the moment. It's pretty garbage. Enemy conflict is formulaic. The platforming is unexciting and linear. Story is mediocre and full of narrative cliches.
So far 4/10.
>>342877472

>>342878405
Is that Skully? Why does he keep getting jounger in every game
>>342882912
Exactly. I would have said the same had it been a PC or Nintendo game. It's just okay when it's a Sony game.
Metacritic is pure garbage anyway; numeric scores on reviews are a shitty, uninformative way of summing up a game in completely irrelevant ways. IIRC, Rock Paper Shotgun stopped attaching them to their reviews completely.
>>342882765
Better gunplay and overall speed movement than 3, but lacks content, like a fuckton of it.
Watched my friend play it on his ps4 this weekend looked fun but I don't have a ps4 so I'm sure it's a piece of shit le movie walking simulator ala TLOU.

Because that's how animation works. Changing up the speed of animations to make them look more impactful is why the DMC team had to be brought on to consult Team Ninja when they were making DmC. You have to make concessions in realism for the sake of satisfaction in gameplay.

it has good MP but not many people on /v/ play it because they don't know. People are tired of Uncharted and don't want to like it even if it's good, so people are rating it / judging it a lot more harshly than they were U2 and U3 when they came out.
The pacing is like a movie, and it starts out a little slow. It's still light hearted in tone like the others, but there is some serious character drama in this one. The pacing builds up until the end.
Nadine was the worst thing about the game by far

>>342882912

is this a meme? sure it was short and cinematique but the shooting and time shit or whatever was pretty fun
>>342887243
>Usually you need a nice lenghty wind up which makes the quick punches have impact though.
No, not really. And it would inhibit gameplay. Naughty Dog has some interview out there where they talk all about how they were trying to use long and perfect animations for punches in TLOU, but it made the combat feel slow and cumbersome, so they had to cut frames from the beginning of their punches and make sure that it jumped into the next punch animation without that many recover animations. So it looked like the punches were snapping.
>>342882912
1. Why does it even matter? Your game isn't affected by his review. You have to be a literal console kiddie fanboy to care
2. He doesn't say anything about gameplay because there hardly is any. Hold stick forward, quick time events, a few scripted shooting sequences... It's primarily a story, and a game second. It gets reviewed as such

>I still play the multiplayer, which is excellent. I just hope they don't ruin it with pay2win weapons like they did with Last of Us.
They'd probably be really heavy on LP or battle currency usage so I don't think it'll be as bad as TLOU was. Plus U4 MP is a lot more gung-ho
>>342879032
I've played the game every day since release. I'm going to go play it really soon. Got to get my challenge out of the way. I like the relic system. It will force you out of your regular playstyle. Sometimes they will throw a really difficult challenge your way. I also only use my relics on the Vanity Chests, as buying the chests for sidekicks, mysticals, and hero weapons are just taking gameplay away from you. I'm pretty excited that we are getting new content this week.

>>342887738
what fucking game are big awkward windups required for melee besides gtav? punches can look realistic and still provide a visceral feel, its up to the programmer. its not all or nothing real or retarded.
>>342888653
They were trying to make a man punch things, not make a half demon/half angel with a huge epic sword launch monsters into the air and animation cancel them into a stunlock which makes them totally unable to fight back.
>>342887739
Because North Korea being a legitimate threat is so laughably implausible. Best they could do is nuke the South with a handful of missles, half of which would likely completely fail while in the air, and then immediately get thier shit kicked in by every other major power in the world including China.
>>342878405
>Screen tear all over
This game proved Digital Foundry's methods are flawed because the games performance goes to absolute shit in heavy firefights and action sequences.
It was just flawed and boring as fuck but the press wanted to make it out to be this "Majestic" work of art and "Technical" masterpiece even when Naughty Dog cut a shit ton of corners (Static lighting, aggressive LOD culling, poor texture filtering. Game's as technically competent as a 2012 multiplat). Uncharted 4 is trying to be National Treasure but completely serious, boring and no fun allowed.
Also it doesn't have Nicholas Cage, God Of Kino. So minus more points for Uncharted.
>>342888792

>>342889074
DMC, Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta. It's up to pretty much everyone BUT the programmer since most of the impact comes from the amimations and sound design. The length of the wind up should be relative to attack speed of course, but Uncharted's animations are shit.
Overwatch

I like the Uncharted games, but like Last of Us, I cant bring myself to play through them again. Didnt even bother with 4, because when you just have pirate treasure, no weird mystical shit, and "I'll quit for real this time" plot youre out of ideas
>>342889127
Same principle applies, DMC has fast attacks as well but the wind up for those is still very well done and lengthy. And it does not harm gameplay at all.
>>342882765
It is really good. I personally think it is the best multiplayer in the series, but it does lack content. Co-op isn't coming until fall, and right now you only have three modes: Team Death match/TDM Ranked, Command, and Plunder. There is fun to be had if you enjoy leveling up the boosters, guns, mysticals, and sidekicks, but for quite a few people that isn't enough to keep them hooked. I'm fine with it. I know that the other content is coming, but that could be a real deal breaker for some people.

The problem is that it doesn't seem like he played more than the first hour of the game, but feels that is adequate to rip the game to shreds. If you are a critic it is kind of important to have experienced the entirety of what you are pulling apart. If a critic did this same thing for an album or a movie people would tear him to shreds. Most video game 'critics' don't play the games outside of a couple hours, and then start quoting from their EPK anyway. I find critics to be wholly useless. They don't know what I like and what I want. If I listened to critics, I wouldn't read, play games, watch movies, or eat ever again.
People give critics far too much power. At the end of the day those people are incapable of making art themselves. Why trust them?

1. Why does it even matter? Your game isn't affected by his review. You have to be a literal console kiddie fanboy to care
2. I haven't played the game, but I don't imagine all that story he's referencing takes place in just the first hour?
If it does, then I guess it's literally a 69$ movie and should get even lower than 4/10
>>342890341
i am following the conversation. you said good melee requires windups for every attack. then you listed 3 games that dont have windups for many of the attacks. then i realized youre a moron

Videogames simply couldn't handle the god of kino. Motion capture rigs would blow up. His art can only be captured by film.
That's why Cinematic gaming is kinda shit. I played through Quantum Break on PC (Friend gave me a code he got for the xbone version for the PC version) and CIA just chews scenery like the fire rises and is one of the best parts of the game. Seriously, put QB on steam, drop it to $20 and watch it become a cult classic overnight like Alan Wake. Game's lore dense as fuck and quite fun when you figure that if you play it like a cover shooter, you are fucked and gunfights become more exciting. But it's always limited because videogame conventions will always mean it's scripted and linear and the same thing always happens. CIA will say the same thing and you wish that the Gunplay was in a better, more open world game.
See, There's none of that manic spontaneity, the menace, the brooding, calculating fear. The Cage fucking brings to the camera. Cage in a role he really gets into? It's pure, raw, unbridled adrenaline. Even the most Kino of films, he goes full tilt and only escalates the kino further.
No videogame will ever get the nuances, the method, the insanity of Nicholas Cage. That's why Cinematic gaming is doomed, Uncharted is fucking boring and Nicholas Cage owns.

most of that fight is auto triggering finisher animations and shit that is more qte than melee

So all games with melee?
>give me more shit like Rockstar games
you are given two animations in gtav(kick and punch) and they are worse than gta4. You couldn't have given a worst example if you tried. melee is the worst part of gtav.

It's pretty good. Solid tier Cage. Almost gets close to the ownage fest of Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call (The ultimate in Cage) or Drive Angry but is just a fun ride.Elijah Wood was literally scared shitless because while he knew Cage was a method actor and shadowed him for a bit while he was preparing for the role. He was never warned Cage is the ultimate method actor. They nailed the scene in one take because the fear in Wood's face is real and he thought Cage legit went fucking crazy.
>>342892067
the only reason someone would quit and sell the game on chapter 20 is from raging at hard or crushing difficulty, calling the combat "broken" because /v/ said that the game would be easy.

because i'd just like to have journalists/critics have some fucking standards. any time anyone writes about something concerning a product i may buy, i want them to at least TRY to be impartial and not act like some 14 year old edgy jerkoff making a youtube video for clicks. It's not even about this game in particular. People like this are annoying as fuck and the fact that they get paid to spew shit like this is insulting for anyone who aspires to similar careers and the consumer.

It's a perfectly valid review though. See point 2.
Sony have made the decision to focus primarily on "experiences" rather than games. Therefore people who aren't necessarily big fans of video games are going to play/review them. And that's kind of point, appealing to a wider audience. It's just that video game stories suck ass and are more expensive than a movie, so they're going to be harshly judged when there's no gameplay

Pressing a button to initiate a combat animation is not a QTE, it's something you do in every action game.
Square to strike, circle to roll (and thereby dodge), and mash triangle to escape a struggle or a grab. You can interrupt others punches if you hit them while they're winding up, and they can interrupt your windup in the same way (however unlikely, unless its someone hitting you in the back). You run around with the thumbstick and position yourself to be able to do double-team finishers with either Rafe or Sam by attacking the same people.
Nobody cares about this shit anymore
>>342895078
This
Nintendo is so f*cked lmao
>>342894584
not him, but in a proper video game, you throw punches and kicks (which you actually have to aim) that hurt your opponent and they do the same back. Here you're pressing a button that locks your character into some canned animation with predetermined outcome.
That's why both these webbums look so ridiculous, the game has to teleport around the character all the time so that he's in position to play the animation. There's no actual gameplay
It just felt unnecessary and kind of bland compared to the other 3. And where the fuck is Drakes theme?
>>342894584
>literally 80% of that fight is just waiting for animations to finish so you can play the game again
>drake slides around several meters without even moving his feet because the game needs him to be somewhere for an animation

Dark Souls backstabs and parries are QTE's with no gameplay, got it.
>>342895396
melee is very powerful because the game is a cover shooter, and they dont want it to fall victim to standard cover shooter problems like never being able to escape being pinned down.
It's easy to beat people down because they want to encourage you to move around the flanks and get close to your enemies, rather than play peek-a-boo from cover as you get naded and flanked yourself. The "struggles" are really there to slow you down in your melee attacks so that pursuing ranged enemies have a chance to catch up to you and shoot you
>>342895495
The soundtrack is different feeling from the first 3. I didn't like it at first, but it's really not bad. In fact it's quite good:
https://youtu.be/cMbJxZWAzuA?t=368
>>342894538
these have been common console gameplay mechanics since like 2004 bro. And getting shot and surviving like nothing is something that happens in almost every shooter. I don't see how running around managing health kits would make it any better or worse

>>342887348

Wind up isn't important for games but the cool down after a hit is. This is where real impact feelings come from.
Dragon's Dogma for instance. The charging of the warrior isn't nearly as satisfying as the game stopping from the hitstop after you make contact with some poor fags head.
And this Berserk game has the character regaining his posture even if only for half a second, between that and the sound effects you get a serious impression of weight and impact, even if the swings are quite fast.

Uncharted 4 has plenty of fucking flaws. It had a bland story and a mediocre cast. It's plot progression is almost like 3, which is a 1:1 rip off of 2's plot. It's full of cinematic movie tier bullshit again and isn't just a straight forward action adventure game like the first one. Hell, even the second one was better. It had awkward pacing at the beginning and the end due to the multiple cuts between different settings and the multiplayer was fucking shit.

genuine question, have you seen it running on a screen in front of your eyes? not videos online, actually running on your or a friend's PS4? asking because 100% of games look better when viewed in person, and having played U4 I will vouch for its technical prowess. its pretty impressive.
