emulation is for poorfags that cannot into the actual hardware.

Yea let's talk about how hyperking put a price on freeware.

What a weird, completely wrong way to look at things. Stay delusional, friend.

If you mean shit like pic related, absolutely retarded.
If you mean hacked consoles/handhelds, pretty neat.

>hyperking

It's hyperkin.

>put a price on freeware

They put a price on the hardware that they're selling, mostly. They did fabricate and assemble a bunch of physical consoles, and it did cost money to do so. I mean, it doesn't stop the Retron5 from being a buggy mess that probably isn't worth the money you're paying, but the point still stands.

The software is still free, no one is charging you for emulation software. And they could if they wanted to, it wouldn't be illegal. God forbid someone makes money doing something that takes time and effort to compile. No one was ever forcing you to buy it, your free options are still out there.
>>
>>342877026
If you want to play odler systems like NES/SNES/N64 with a console like experience, what are some other options?

I suppose the best way would be to buy a dedicated PC for it, but I don't know much about setting up a frontend (so you can do everything with a simple interface and not have to use it like an actual Pc, if that makes any sense)

Yeah no. Definitely not as portable.

>>342878301
It's a gpd . Literally chink ripoff of the 3ds XL with better internals than the 3ds and better emulation too.
>>
Nothing wrong with a dedicated emulation box, but stuff like the Retron is retarded.

It's way more expensive than a raspberry pi, can't emulate as many consoles and you still need to buy the original carts, which complete negates the biggest reason to emulate (that is, playing the games for free).

The Retron is basically the worst of both worlds; super expensive games and the inherent faults of emulation.
>>
>>342875905
why do that when you can build your own Hyperspin arcade cabinet or PC console?
>>
>>342875905
What's a good option with HDMI built into it, that I can possibly load roms into?

I want to play some older games and use my capture card on them for streaming and recording purposes, since every recording option I've tried on my PC has a weird frame hiccup here or there that ruins it.

Considering getting a pi3, due to hearing how it is cheap and easy to setup, but I'm curious if there are other options that exist for what I'm after.

Why not just actually own the fucking games and systems. It's not fucking expensive. Don't you like having a physical collection you can show off and actually plug in and play. Emulation takes all the joy out off sifting through your shelves to figure out what to play nex. I love physically owning hundreds and hundreds off games for a my systems. My pc and modern consoles only have the digital stuff mostly.

It's not wrong at all. Clone consoles are all complete garbage since they're systems on a chip that don't have full compatibility with games. Try playing something like Castlevania III on one of your piece of shit clone consoles, you can't.
>>
I'm fine with my 3DS, since it can runs SNES games via blargsnes, nes games via VC injects or retroarch. Same with genesis and master system.

>>
>>342880503

Emulation is close to perfect for anything PS1 or earlier.

Clone consoles a shit.
>>
>>342879607
A number of issues exist with older generations, due to the switch from CRT to HDTV, such as requiring system modifications or specialized cables is one of the major issues I have with it these days. Internal batteries on older carts is also a valid issue for those of us not comfortable opening up our games and lacking the skills to properly replace them.

Then comes the fact that if you have multiple systems, you have to keep them all plugged in and cluttered, or do the mundane swapping of systems and cords. That's just not fun.

And price is the major factor, since "le retro gamers" have rushed out and declared they lacked a childhood, and inflated the prices of good games to crazy levels, or just a simple popular Youtuber playing a game can cause the demand and price to skyrocket overnight. Demon's Crest wasn't the priciest game in existence, but Grumps play it for a bit, and now it's like $100+ in price.

The only real options are to buy digital copies from Sony or Nintendo, and sometimes Microsoft's arcade, but by that point, you're just paying for emulation, all to play a video game.

>>342880315
Due to having some games like Castlevania 3, and others like Mario RPG, this is a big reason I don't care for those off-brand retro consoles. The sound isn't the same on them, compatibility issues, and just seems like an inferior deal compared to tried and trued emulators.
>>
>>342878460
>playing retro physical copies

Just seal those up anon so they'll be worth more in the future.
>>
I like the idea behind the Retron 5, but it and similar clone consoles/emulator consoles are too much for what they do when I can literally just do it on my computer already.

If I got one for free I'd probably use the fuck out of it though.
>>
>>342876637
My GPD is loaded almost exclusively with games that I own, sans a few JP exclusives like Dawn of Ys. I have it so I can play them during my lunch break and on the shitter.
>>
>>342877875
Where can I get one of these?
>>
>>342880695

I think I would prefer just having an all in one cartridge/controller adaptor to an all in one clone console.

Something like that could connect to a device capable of emulating properly.

Emulation is OK.

Clone consoles are pieces of shit and you should never, ever use one.

those things are a colossal waste of money.

You either emulate the games or you buy the original consoles.

Flash carts however are fair game.

>It's not wrong at all. Clone consoles are all complete garbage since they're systems on a chip that don't have full compatibility with games. Try playing something like Castlevania III on one of your piece of shit clone consoles, you can't.

Actually a Retron 5 is the most idealistic way to play NES games on a regular TV. To use real hardware on a regular, modern TV you have to get a $400 Jap upscaler AND RGB mod your NES which is probably another $100-$200, or just mod an NES with HDMI which is also close to $400. You basically want people to drop more than a PS4 to do this. Which I did since I have a XRGB mini, but most people won't do that.

Retron 5 works great for NES games, I would recommend it if you don't mind emulators. It has horrible lag for SNES games though, so keep that in mind.
>>
>>342879169
Any suggestions?
>>
>>342881953
>Actually a Retron 5 is the most idealistic way to play NES games on a regular TV.
The Retron 5 dumps the ROM of the game you insert and it uses stolen emulator code.

Also, you shouldn't be using a modern flat screen TV for old games due to latency that cannot be removed even with a Framemeister.

CRT TVs are cheap as hell since nobody wants them and they don't suffer input lag like HDTVs do.
>>
>>342881953
Nigger you can just plug the composite jack into a TV and a lot of times it'll work just fine (though it does look like shit and have a good amount of lag). You only need an upscaler if the TV's built-in one can't decode 480p. And if that's the case, just go to your local thrift store and pick up a CRT for a buck or two.
>>
>>342882470
*240p, my bad.
>>
>>342881953
>Actually a Retron 5 is the most idealistic way to play NES games on a regular TV.
Absolutely not. Either a hacked Wii is (as it can actually output 240p which will look beautiful on a CRT), or a RPi/any other cheap embedded system w/ HDMI out (for play on higher resolution displays).
Literally no reason ever to get a retron.
>>
>>342881643
sorry GPD
>>
>>342881529
Sweet. Should I get a gpd or shield portable? How do you download roms on a shield?
>>
>>342882372
>Also, you shouldn't be using a modern flat screen TV for old games due to latency that cannot be removed even with a Framemeister.

It's not detectable though if you already have a good latency TV. Also the HDMI mod for the NES has zero lag because it actually uses a digital signal from the NES.
>>
>>342880072
Hey, what game is that?
>>
>>342882680
>Either a hacked Wii is (as it can actually output 240p which will look beautiful on a CRT)
Not to mention that you can easily get component cables for a Wii if you want a higher quality picture than composite. I'm sure there's probably an S-Video cable compatible with the Wii as well.

Retrons are only good for the "my wife and I" meme.

Actually you can play roms on a Retron 5 if you know what you're doing. It's just an exploit of the patch system normally used for putting english patches on japanese games. You can patch entier games over other games, and play any game you want. There are tutorials how to do this.
