As much as I like SK and the little world they've made with it, I think they should branch out slightly into new ideas before they do a sequel. On the Wii U (or 3DS) you can manage your equipment on the second screen without having to pause your game. And it does wonders for the game, especially with the Plague Knight campaign.
Oh and the Wii U version also has custom Shovel Knight and co-op (if you have the amiibo).

OST is pretty great. It's much more linear than a Metroid game, it's definitely more Megaman.
The plus side of going with the 3DS (and I imagine the WiiU too) is the second screen just for relic selecting.
I got this during the sale, and my controller (standard 360) seems to have a weird deadzone just in Shovel Knight. It feels as if the character has a slight delay to every movement, it's annoying as fuck.
I don't have that issue with other games, so it's not the hardware or software on my end.

The only thing keeping Shovel Knight from being an all time classic is that they keep adding new shit.
The technology to patch games or create DLC didn't exist back in the 80s and 90s but imagine if they started adding new "wacky!" shapes for Tetris or messed up some level balancing by adding new costumes in Mario 3.
They were great games and they let them speak for themselves instead of grubbing for more money and pushing their game into everyone's faces (game websites reporting on a new update, causing fatigue for people who have already beaten/enjoyed Shovel Knight)

Unfortunately no. I was prepared to do all of that stuff when I had backed SK but since it never came through I just gave up. Should have done it anyway.
Not that there was much anyway to their designs, since I wanted to make something very neutral that would fit the artstyle of the game. Basically it was just going to be two, rather short, people wearing overly large robes so you could only see glowing eyes under their hoods. One had a spellbook and other had a gauntlet of sorts. That was the basic idea. Depending how they would have responded to them, I would have made them more unique or given them more details.

His basic attack resembles Shovel's a bit more, but there's nuance to this too. For example, he can only attack upwards when an enemy is above him. That means tactically positioning yourself relative to enemies, not just boosting upwards whenever. Also, his lower jump height means wallrunning is going to be required to reach the same places.

I played Shovel Knight and then when Plague Knight had finally arrived it had been long enough for a Shovel Knight re-play to feel worthwhile yet not too long ago for the game to feel ancient.
So I got Plague Knight but before I started Plague Knight I re-played Shovel Knight first and it was great fun. And then Plague Knight itself exceeded my expectations.
Fast forward to now, and Plague Knight was already some time ago. Not too long ago but still long ago enough for it to probably feel pleasant to re-play it.
So whenever the next campaign comes later this year I'll probably re-play Shovel Knight, and then re-play Plague Knight, and then finally start the new campaign. And I'll likely love it.
So yeah. I'd say that they're paced pretty well. Shovel Knight was released in 2014. Plague Knight in 2015. And now we're getting another in 2016. It works. I am down for getting back into Shovel Knight yearly.

id say make it every 2 and a half to 3, PK took this long for a reason, and they really just made an alternate character and a few extra assets for his story. making a whole new game will take significantly longer than a year, even if they reuse the engine.

So was Mona originally going to be part of Specter Knight's story? In the credits for the original Shovel Knight mode she's hanging out with Specter Knight, and never gives any indication that she's at all connected to Plague Knight.
