I'm going down alone with this ship

!
I see your Saturn and raise you another one
>>342840138
I have one more Saturn
>>342840343
I actually own that game, it's easily the definitive port just by the music alone. Get a load of this song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhJtJD8OTQk
Tommy Tallarico definitely shines way better without limitations, unlike most artists that made their name with chiptunes.
I have tons of Saturn to spare though, I'll raise you another one.
>>342838858
Not if I can help it
>>342837514
>>342842024
I will never understand that cover. My best theory is a marketing gamble on trying to make something so bizarre and random that it would somehow stick out.
I mean technically it worked since we're still talking about it, don't know if that translated into sales though
>>342840615
I own it on SNES. It's the worst soundtrack wise, but has better graphics than all of the other ports, including the 5th gen ones.
>>342841989
Has cavalry finally arrived
>>342837481
>>342842290
It definitely has better backgrounds, but SNES' native resolution is so small that I don't know if it's worth it.
>>342842215
Yeah it's a very interesting topic, marketing can be fucking lazy, but at the same time it's tied in with psychology and consumer patterns, and the internet has changed so much as well I can't really tell anymore.
But I can tell you from my experience, when that game was released I was 8yo, and definetly the phalanx box made me look at it, it was a time with no internet, we had gaming magazines like EGM (electronic gaming monthly) or Nintendo Power, but it's not like I readed all of them, or like they actually had good reviews of the games. So I didn't what the fuck this was about, I picked the box and looked at the back to see what it was about, a few times I even forgot which game was it when I looked at the cover again. So even if everytime I looked at it I was interested in it, never ever felt an urge to buy it.
But instead I kept buying shitty games from movies... like fucking Home Alone, that was my first game, I knew nothing about it and I bought because "well I liked the movie" and my parent were like yeah that movie was cool let's get you the game, same happened with fucking "Aladdin" for the SNES, both ultra shit games.
I think after those two I stopped buying game son an impulse and actually research them, because $50-60 for 2 hour long game was a fucking knife to the gut for a kid my age.
>>342841123
>Face textures can't be loaded on project 64
Why N64 emulations is such a clusterfuck to work with?
>>342843113
I hear you, I had a bunch of shitty licensed games for the Master System before I realized I have to put some research into what the fuck I'm buying. Fuckers made a lot of money with licensed games back, nor the parents or the kids were informed consumers so they preyed on people's expectations. To some degree it still happens today but not that severe.
I get a feeling you're being too harsh with Aladdin though, it's a pretty solid game. If I remember correctly the SNES version even was directed by veteran game designer Shinji Mikami, the dude that made Resident Evil and God Hand.
>>342843470
Project 64 changed development teams like 3 times now, a lot of bickering and in-fighting AFAIK. And to be honest all those 3D system from that generation had some pretty bizarre hardware, shit is reportedly really hard to even understand how it worked.
Even the PS1 emulation still has some problems, and although Sega Saturn actually has one good emulator, it's closed souce and windows only. 3D just added a weird layer of complexity, and it's not real 3D either, it's weird aproximations using sprites.
>>342844801
Those lazy cunts used the exact same face and torso drawing for sonic 1 and 2
>>342844964
Whoops meant to quote >>342844749
>>342842340
Holy shit, I had never seen that one before.
>>342845375
And now we're even, never seen that one either
>>342845375
>>342837481
>>342838085
lol why do they look so uncharacteristically smug?
>>342844749
>>342845375
>the president of what?
>>342845646
>>342845131
Apparently. The coloring is different, though.
>>342845980
Is it just me, or did the Sega CD versions have slightly better art direction? Especially Lunar 2 SCD.
>>342846345
yes it was more animu
>>342846345
I prefer it, specially in Eternal Blue, but I have a bias toward smaller palette pixel art.
Obligatory
>>342842340
This is cool as fuck.
>>342847852
I still don't understand why Namco decided to brand themselves as Namcot
What amazed me the most is how most of this shit was done without digital painting tools, all this shit was hand drawn and colored, and the renders look stunningly perfect.
>>342837690
That one is very classy. Love the contrast with Billy Kane staff. Is that Mr. Big on the left?
>you will never print out and use this calendar
>>342843113
>snes aladdin
>ultra shit game
Fuck you, shit was by capcom and pretty good.
>>342848626
it's like 50 minutes long, it costed me fucking $60
as a kid, saving that money took me like 2 god damn months
It was a god damn scam, you fucking emulator generation don't know what you're talking about, that shit wasn't even worth a rental.
My mom came to see the game, and I had to actually die over and over un purpose on that flying carpet level so she wouldn't see I had wasted so much money on an hour long fucking game.
>>342848941
Fair enough, as a kid I remember getting it for cheap. It is pretty short. Most platformers on snes only take like 2-3 hours to be fair.
>>342848295
No. Those are Hopper and Ripper, Geese's two main henchmen.
>>342849676
Shame about that overexposed photography ruining most of the detail
>>342850406
I had never seen this version, thanks it looks a lot better. Wonder why they didn't use that version.
>>342842340
>>342845375
It's from a series of Metal Gear 2 ads that were printed in MSX Magazine and MSX Fan.
>>342850705
It is a mystery
Either that or the printer/scanner fucked it up and we're just seeing a weird version
>>342842707
Sadly this game is shit.
The good is the designer of the monster made for Kamen Raiden
>>342844801
That mech remember to me Platabor
Psygnosis had some pretty dope cover art.
>>342845980
>>342846360
>Tfw the character desinger made the idolshitm@ster and directed that shit cgi Berserk movies
>>342851383
>>342851383
That's because most of them it was old Sci-Fi paintings that they bought the rights to use as a cover. They managed to get Roger Dean to make some new ones though
>>342847282
Theres no translation project for this game?>>342847986
Exclusivity with Nintendo by the time?
>>342851558
I figured they just paid the guys who did old rock album covers
>>342851601
Shadowrun is being translated by a group that juggles a bunch of fan translations at the time, so who knows if it's going to ever come out
And they also published as Namcot on other system AFAIK
>>342851717
There's one cover specifically that they used that's exactly from an old metal cover. I think it was iron maiden or something, can't remember
>>342853664
This is beautiful
>>342842215
Xevious is probably the last game I expected to have a novel.
I have like 30 gb's worth of high press press shit from Halo, legend of zelda, pokemon and various other games.
Most of it is 2big to post here or even on /hr/, but i'll dump what I can and if you know there's something you want that you think I might have, ask away
>>342855742
*high res press shit
Also, fun fact, that art I just posted is what inspired the railgun in halo 4
>>342855859
interesting to compare the MM3d art to the art for the n64 version.

I still have my Vortex cart. That game got a bad wrap but I enjoyed it.
I still don't know what the Mech's 3rd transformation is supposed to be, I always thought it was a giant brick or something as a kid.

big tits fishing girl platformer was fun. I haven't played it since I played the SNES import, I was surprised to see it on steam.
>>342858059
Well this thread suddenly took a 180 degree turn

>>342864040
as is this
The funny thing about all these Psygnosis games is that a lot of the time, the cover art had nothing to do with the game inside.
