Keep trying not to hoard, because by the time I'm level 5 or so I'm usually too rich. Even with this one mod that changes around bartering and prices, there's just so much stuff you can pick up and sell, and never have to spend your own caps. The machine lets you exchange the currency for shit like med bags, weapon repair kits, and stimpack and its variants. I always liked doing that so I could stockpile stimpack with that suit you get in Old World Blues. Shit was fun, but unfortunately took a lot of any sort of challenge out of the game.

The fact that everything is useful in FO4 is very annoying so you end up looting almost everything also the gun mods makes every fucking gun seems different but they're actually shit than what you have 90% of the time so you either have to stop to look in the menu every 5 seconds or just fuck it and loot and go without even looking. I thought the lack of weapon durability would be good but I kind of miss it because it made picking up the same weapon have a use just to repair your weapon, stuff doesn't even sell well in FO4 and merchants don't even have a lot of caps, I made all my money from just having high charisma and shaking down niggas for 400 caps or more per quest.

You get drops from legendary enemies. Those guns are good enough to kill anything. Power armor is a suggestion. Settlement BS is a waste of time.

You don't need to collect anything but ammo. Then again, if you didn't pick up all that junk you would leave every building empty handed and finish the game in 2 hours.

Ey lads, it's been a while since I played this game ( for the duration of an actual playthrough anyways ) and I forgot if items dropped in, say, the Lucky 38 suite that you get from Mr House ever despawn when you come back.

Here is a very funny picture.
>>
>>342850615
They aren't fun but they are necessary.
>>
>>342835004

You've heard of the Sierra Madre Casino. We all have, the legend, the curses. Some foolishness about it lying in the middle of a City of Dead. A city of ghosts. Buried beneath a blood-red cloud... a bright, shining monument luring treasure hunters to their doom. An illusion that you can begin again, change your fortunes. Finding it, though, that's not the hard part. It's letting go.
>>
>>342851419
the hard part is dismembering angry ghost people with a really hot knife while you argue with a bi-polar nightkin, a petty niglet and a qt who is afraid of cramped spaces

actually DM is easy if you're patient except near the end towards the vault where there's radios and homograms fuck everywhere

FNV is prooobably my fav vidya of all time, barring Morrowind. Sierra Madre was aight - liked Old World Blues and Honest Hearts better. The DLC is all about melee weapons and dismemberment perks. The vault is always annoying, yeh. Fuck I might play again, gotta find a patch program that prevents save corruption. Any recommendations?

>>
>>342850829
Nope. In the PC version items you drop never despawn anywhere. I've left shit in shops that I couldn't sell for money and come back months later and they're still there.

Enemies/friendlies will pick up weapons or ammo though if there is an enemy nearby and they don't have a lot of ammo or the weapon on the ground is better than their weapon. They don't seem to ever pick up armor though. Companions in your house (lucky 38 or wherever) might pick up food while you're there. They do the animation like they're grabbing food/water but I haven't actually confirmed your stock goes down.

"Now that the dust has settled", was anyone really happy with FO4's voiced protagonist feature?
I think it would have been better left on the drawing board. It involves just that much more scripting and voice talent to make any edits or additions to the "dialogue wheels", and limits conversation topics. On that note, the Mass Effect -inspired "dialogue wheels" had similar problems as the ME dialogue wheels: Unintuitive extrapolation of the provided choices ("I disagree" could result in a furious slew of insults and refusal to co-operate with an NPC, or just as likely result in a polite differing of opinion and automatically agreeing to perform the quest that the player disagreed with anyways)

At least after I upgrade my toaster I can mod the game and put in a full MC voice script recorded by my own voice giving more broad and varied responses other than
>THE BABY
>MY SON NEED TO FIND HIM
>HAVE YOU SEEN A BABY OR MY SON
>MY SON IS A BABY AND HE WAS KIDNAPPED OH GOD MY ONLY SON HE'S GONE THEY KILLED MY WIFE WHERE'S MY SON
>IS THAT A BABY? IS THAT MY SON?
>BETTER CHECK IT OUT, MY SON COULD BE IN THERE
I wouldn't even upload it. It would just be for my own satisfaction and roleplaying.

On that note:
>dude heres ur wife uve known for 2 minutes shes dead sad right!!!
This is my biggest gripe with the game. At least in FO3 (you know, just about the only Fallout game Bethesda will openly acknowledge?) they made your dad a compelling and sympathetic character. You interact with him throughout the whole intro, as your character lives their life with him from birth to adulthood (a couple-hour process) and really become attached to him as your character grows up with him. He disappears, and you leave the vault, then your adventure starts. And if you want to roleplay? You can skip the whole intro to the point where you leave the vault, and never even see your "dad", so you don't have to spend the whole game talking about your dad and asking where he is anytime someone so much as says hello.

Then there's FO4, where your wife only has a max of about 8 generic lines such as
>Looking good
>The baby needs you
>We should go for an outing soon
>Oh no! The baby!
And then she's killed. And I'd totally understand that, if the intent was for you to leave your old life behind and start your own adventure, but that's clearly not the point, because right after your OH SO ENDEARING BABY SON WHO YOU ARE SO ATTACHED TO GIVEN YOUR ENTIRE 1.5 SECONDS INTERACTION WITH HIM gets kidnapped, it's all your character can fucking talk about, often using all 4 options of the "revolutionary" dialogue wheel to mention or ask about your son. Did they really just think that 'paternal instincts' would deeply resonate with their demographic of 12-30 year old single men?
>>
>>342858635
>from birth to adulthood (a couple-hour process)
How slowly do you read?
The longest you spend with him is making your character, if you're one of those people. The rest is spent exploring your room before he picks you up, talking to everybody at your party before he makes you shoot a radroach, and then leaving you before you wake up to Amata saying "your dad is gone"
>>
>>342858434
Hardly, it forces you to put actual thought into your gear.

You need to decide:

How much ammo to take (depending on your weapon rate of fire, weight of the ammo itself and how much combat you expect)

How much food/water (based on your survival skill and the abilty to restock on the way)

How much meds/chems

What kind of weapon (better stats for more weight, maybe smaller caliber to save even more weight) and how many of them (a medium sized weapon and a backup or maybe a bigger wepaon with no backup)

What kind of armor (more protection and less weight or vice versa)

Just how much room for the loot you want to have (better perfomance in combat for exchange for less profits or vice versa)

It's pretty cool, you should try it. It's really no different from limited health and ammo.
>>

If you want to go full retardwith power armor and minigun then yes, you won't have enough room fro anything else and on top of that your STR will need to be pretty high.

On the other hand if you choose light armors or even clothing you will still have a lot of room for other things.

This is true. Maybe if there was at least ONE FUCKING THING appealing about your "son" other than the game telling you that he's your son, people might actually give half a shit about him. But since they needed him to be a baby to tie their SUPER DEEP plot threads together (and also because child actors usually have the opposite effect of being endearing), Bethesda must have had a hard time making the mcguffin likeable, forcing them to rely on telling you that you like him, and having a voiced protagonist to show you how much your character likes him.

it always wonders me who leaves behind in box full of junk, or even throws out, an unopened pack of cigs?

they were probably just using it for storage and then they got eaten by a pack of Geckos.

Same here, any game I have to have at least one copy of every weapon. If that's unrealistic I can settle for every unique but it has to be satisfied or I can't consider the game finished even if I'm at 100%

7.62 High Calibre did it almost perfectly
>all gear that isn't carred on body is stored in pockets, vest, backpack etc.
>bigger items require more spacious containers
>weapons can be carried on sling rather than in inventory
>you can fold stock on long weapons so they take up less space
>your strength defines your optimal load
>you can go above it, but it will gradually slow you down
>also will make your stamina drain faster

Don't. Just don't.

>Who can't get through a half-demolished wooden door just because the latch is locked?
>What kind of society just tosses hundreds upon thousands of rounds of live ammunition in the garbage?
>How would caps even work as a currency when unopened soda bottles are still as common as cigarette butts?
>Wouldn't Nuka-Cola bottles be just as valuable as caps due to having those same caps attached to them?
>Wouldn't someone be hoarding both caps and full soda bottles?
>With bottlecaps so common, wouldn't the value of a single bottle cap reduce down to almost nothing, requiring a less-common currency token for larger value increments?
>Wouldn't a barter and trade system be infinitely more valuable to a society that has to scrape by to survive?
>I get preservatives and storage, but how can anyone honestly believe that things like twinkies and TV dinners could still be edible after 200 years?
>How can two tin cans' worth of steel create a full-size 8x10 steel wall?

We'll be here all night.

Fixed with mods, for example "explosive entry" lets you open locked containers/doors with explpsives depending on your skill.

>What kind of society just tosses hundreds upon thousands of rounds of live ammunition in the garbage?
You can either fix this yuorself in GECK or with Project Nevada by tweaking the drop rarity.

>How would caps even work as a currency when unopened soda bottles are still as common as cigarette butts?
Caps are a dying currency, they were already dead in Fallout 2, they are only a thing because:

1. New Reno destroyed the gold mines in Redding

2. It's common currency accepted by everyone while NCR $ and Legion coins are not

>Wouldn't Nuka-Cola bottles be just as valuable as caps due to having those same caps attached to them?
Bottles wouldn't be good currency because they are huge, heavy and easy to destroy. Not to mention caps themselves don't have value, they are backed by water/gold.

>Wouldn't someone be hoarding both caps and full soda bottles?
Again, bottles are not a good currency.

>With bottlecaps so common, wouldn't the value of a single bottle cap reduce down to almost nothing, requiring a less-common currency token for larger value increments?
That's what happened in Fallout 2.

NV takes place in a place that used to be mostly tribal shithole before, caps were not that common.

>Wouldn't a barter and trade system be infinitely more valuable to a society that has to scrape by to survive?
The game takes place 200 years after the nukes, not 2. At that point barter is mostly obsolete unless you are delaing with tribals.

>I get preservatives and storage, but how can anyone honestly believe that things like twinkies and TV dinners could still be edible after 200 years?
Yeah, that doesn't make any sense, unless you make some made-up excuse like "people invented EXTREMALY good preservatives in Fallout universe"

I don't get that one, are you talking about settlements in F4?

Because F4 is so full of nonsense and plot holes it's crazy, no one is arguing that.

See it didn't take too long. Most things in Fallout 1/2/NV have actual thought put into them.

Physical data storage.

Shit Anon this is not rocket science.

>>342870331
Gameplaywise though.

>>342870207
if you have Pack Rat and Strong Back with a 10 in Strength you can hoard a bunch of useless crap for selling. it complements the melee playstyle because for the most part you only need one or two weapons.

To show that people used them.

Ammo for rock-it launcher and you can exchange them for better materials in OWB. That's about it.
