Me and my friends used to play DarkRP, some great times just fucking with people and joining the mafia or raiding the police station, its not bad alone but i would recommend it with friends.
It's very popular definitely will provide a hell of a lot of hours of game time, but the players are legitimate autists, so you'll probably fit right in.

Depends on what you want to do. Plenty of dead modes, and plenty of alive ones.

Plenty, but most are underaged kids these days. You'll find a lot of spergs on the RP servers that are way too easy to troll, but sadly they usually have admins on too. There's a completely rule-free server called Cereal Box Cinema that lets you request any video so long as it's not something like child porn - basically the 4chan of Gmod. It is filled to the brim with underaged kids who shouldn't be getting exposed to anything there, so it gives you a decent idea of what the 4chan userbase consists of.

Community is trash, it has the most cancerous admins/mods i have seen in my life. A lot of them are females who take the admin/mod job too seriously. Also, Role Play servers and Prop Hunt are very popular cause of youtuber shit.

Yes, Singleplayer is god tier because of mods. Multiplayer is a mixed experience because of autism and RP servers. Ragdoll Kombat can be kinda fun if you mute everyone.

All the games are shit and/or dead. Creating stuff is much more fun and efficient in Unity or something, Unreal even has blueprints.
It was pretty fucking cool to fuck around in if you were 14 in 2006, but there zero reason to get it now.
