It didn't need to be in its prime. It was a glimpse, and it was the absolute BEST way to do it: Artorias' grave is the Oolacile Sanctuary, the Darkroot Garden is the Royal Wood, and the grassy enemies in Darkroot used to be the gardeners for the Royal Wood. Then the glimpse is tarnished IMMEDIATELY, with the Abyss doing its work on the Royal Wood and Oolacile. We can see the walls of Anor Londo from down there, which must be bustling with people but we can only imagine it. We can only imagine what Oolacile was like before shit got fucked. It's perfect. Absolutely perfect.

I get that. I've seen Fromsoft's world destroyed nearly four times now. Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3. Should From make another Dark Souls game and it looks the same while still remaining interesting, I'd still buy that. I love Dark Souls for what it is. I enjoy the gameplay, the mechanics, the weapon variety, the dress up, the charming characters and the interesting lore. But what would really shock me, what would really throw me for a loop, is if for one game, the theme was different. The ideas of the flame wavering and faltering but never truly dying could be present in the game's world, but it doesn't have to be about that. The design of places such as Izalith, Heide's and Irithyl and the proposition that people once lived in these places is so incredibly, damnably interesting that I just want to see it for myself. I can imagine it myself, sitting in my chair working my mind, but I'd like to see what the people who made these places in the first place have to say about how far the world's fallen from grace.

They're all good faggot. Demon's Souls has my favorite areas and setting but Dark Souls one-ups it in nearly every other way. Dark Souls II wasn't at all as good as the first game, but I can enjoy it all the same. Bloodborne was fun, I enjoyed the gameplay for the most part, but I didn't like not being able to become a Knight. The best part about Souls for me was being able to go from nothing (deprived) to a warrior knight and being able to complete my quest through strength and bravery. That being said, Bloodborne isn't a Souls game so I can appreciate that they did something different with it. Dark Souls III was very similar to the first game, while pulling all the good shit from both II and Bloodborne. The only thing it perhaps didn't do as well was the world building and design, fast travel from the get go and not having Firelink connect to the first or any level was a little disappointing.

This. Did anybody actually grind in souls? You literally just beat the level/boss then move on. Repeating areas is pointless unless you're in NG+ or doing it in coop.

I had a friend play it once and every time he hit the boss gate he'd run back to the bonfire to level up. He did it 10 times each boss gate. This autistic fuck was overleveled for everything, but still too shit to actually beat the game.

I've always just used what I could until I met the requirements for a weapon I wanted to use. Nobody should be grinding for specific sets or weapons in the first playthrough, that would suggest that you've looked up how and where to get those items, which certainly isn't my ideal way of playing games, specifically Souls games.

Are you one of those people who'd watch a youtube video or look up something remotely about the game while you're still playing it? I can't do that shit to myself, if anything gets spoiled, even enemy locations, I get mad with myself. I hate knowing what's coming when I shouldn't.

As much as i love the existing formula, youre right, id love to see something slightly different, but then im a sucker for large, grand cities and stuff. Since the world gets a kind of reset button when the fire is linked, they could make a game where you play in the period where the flame is JUST starting to flicker, and the first few undead arise. That could be interesting as everyone would be confused and horrified at these random soldiers who never ever die. Seems like the time period (relative to the progression of the flame) would be the best bet for making another game. But ill be honest, i want another game, the gameplay is too good to stop here, even if stopping here would be the best thing for the lore

Or the champion's covenant which made the game harder and allowed you to farm any item you wanted if you wanted respawns on.

Or how you could just straight up skip everything in the game and go to Drangleic if you accumulated a million souls.

Or how there were optional bosses and areas that were purposely designed with co-op in mind, so that the entire game wouldn't be a fucking joke if you summoned.

I'm a Dark Souls II apologist but this isn't entirely true. My second character required the Grand Lance and Ivory King Set (for roleplay), both of which took until literally the endgame before I could get (Shrine of Winter opens at midgame but Loyce Knights are tough to solo at that point). I'm now on my third character who is a Sorcerer since I've never done a spell-only run before and in order to get the build I want I need to get items from the Undead Crypt which is AFTER the halfway point.

Go downstairs into the catacombs. The best weapon is in there, the crystal great scythe which you can use from the get go. Makes your first play through absolutely great. It scales up with you very well and there are no stay requirements to wield it. Plus the skelingtons are piss ez. Have fun

The Witcher never appealed to me. It takes place in Not!Poland, with realistic yet flavorful armor, you only get to play as Geralt and you only get any variation as to how you play a two-sword using alchemist medieval Batman. There's nothing wrong with that, it just doesn't tick with me the same way Dark Souls does. Smough would not fit in anywhere other than Dark Souls' universe, for example. You would rarely see anyone in a fat suit which doubles as armor brandishing a cartoonishly large hammer which seems to be constructed by impaling a stop sign into a barrel and plating it in solid gold; rather, you would not see this character played straight, and you would not read about him being idolized in the later games after his death. Dark Souls characters all have unique silhouettes, unique personalities, as do all the weapons, the armor, the areas. Some things look real, believable, and unassuming, while others surprise you with how outrageous they are. They are almost all balanced with each other, very few things are inherently inferior to another. These are all things that I feel are severely lacking in other open world games.

I don't want the franchise to turn into an Open World series, I know. It's just that I want everything Dark Souls has in an open world for once. Just a spin-off.
