I don't get one thing about his QPU videos.

After building up speed for the 12+ hours, how does he initiate the actual "warp"? Like what stick movements or button presses does he make to go from "build speed" to "move"?

I think he just nudges mario in the direction he wants him to go. He only needs to take one step to cross to the desired PU afaik. The rest of the time is just waiting for Mario's speed to hit the exact right number to get to the point he wants him to be.

Not sure but I think while he's building up speed he's at an angle where the movement vector would take him into the void between PUs, so the game doesn't see it as a valid movement and doesn't move Mario. When he has the right speed he rotates Mario so the vector leads into the QPU; the game thinks this is valid so it moves him.

>>
>>342823918

You don't "press a button half times", a half press is just a state where you don't follow through the press (meaning it's not released during the period in which a-presses are counted)
>>
>>342823918
There might be, but even then there technically isn't even "half" an A press. When he says he used "half" a press to get a star, he just means holding the A button down after pressing it outside of the level.
>>
>>342824071
Who says the presses are only counted inside a level?
>>
>>342824276

literally the rules of the a-press challenge
If you are showing the run for a specific star, you are only going to count the a-presses that are directly a part of it
>>
>>342824276
Nobody.

He's doing a run of the entire game. So if he needs to press A on BitFS, but he only needs to have A HELD on a later star, he can do BitFS, press A, keep it held, and then go do the next star before releasing it. This is, technically, a single press of the A button, stretched across multiple levels.

Documenting a level as requiring "0.5x A presses" is just a shorthand way of saying "this strategy can't be used in a full 0x A press run, but if I've already got an A press, this strategy won't add ANOTHER A press". That takes a lot of space to type.

>13 hours of scuttlebug raising later
Okay, the speed buildup n shit can easily be done with hex editing one value
this one tho...
>>
>>342827519
Easily achieved by a script that you let run for as long as you need. He didn't actually sit down 13 hours (or longer, if he fucked up) and do repetitive motions for that amount of time.

I'm watching his Rolling Rocks video for the first time and... Holy shit. I'm sorta understanding it and it blows my mind that he was able to come up with all this stuff and come up with a relatively easy to understand video on the subject.
>>
>>342805507
He's making some really good process with it though. Already saved an a press on it
>>

>scuttlebug raising
I dont understand how that helped him accomplish this. Was that how he jumped up the bookcases, with thoe scuttlebugs?
How the fuck does that work?
>>
>>342831981
The scuttlebugs were just inside the wall when he went up to the secret area, after killing the books, he basically jumped up them to boost to the secret area
>>
>>342832105
And what was the method by which he raised them there?
I mean, it's obvious what the motions are to achieve it, but what are the mechanics at play here?
>>
>>342832260
he explains it in another one of his videos, the Hazy Maze Cave one I think, something to do with taking advantage of their aggro range and the little hop they do when they spot you
>>
>>342832260
Watch his 0.5x a-press Watch for Rolling Rocks vid, he explains it there.

Basically Mario moves into their radius and they try to jump at him, but he then moves out of their activation radius and that causes them to freeze mid-jump - he can then run away and they'll reset at a greater height - rinse and repeat.

Pannenkoen Mario is canonically the strongest being in the Super Mario series.
Probably can go toe-to-tow with Sigmario

I miss his vacation videos.

He doesn't even hold any records any more.

Unrelated: I love how some 120 speedruns are managing to get faster times than the first few 120 star TAS runs.
>>
>>342809856

I really doubt he gives half a fuck about any%, it's 100% or bust and TTC is the one with the most A-presses overall so cracking that is priority number one.
>>
>>342833565

I miss when mario 64 speedrunners were big on twitch, it was nice seeing runs of the game

Why can't Nintendo just give him the source code of SM64? This guy is going full autismo, it sure is impressive that he managed to figure out all the programming behind held objects and variables and everything else, but obsessing so much over reverse engineering a game can't be healthy for him. If I were someone at Nintendo, I'd "leak" the code so that this guy would finally find peace.

>already know most of the levels and the final boss fight so it feels pointless

I guessI'll just play super mario 3d land on my hacked 3ds instead...
>>
>>342834871
Nintendo probably don't have it.
Also how the game itself work is well known due years of reverse engineering.
It's how stuff work with each other that is the mistery that not even the source can solve.
>>
>>342834871
No need for the source code when you have MHS.
>>
>>342834871
You're the kind of faggot that buys a guide before you've played the game. Working out all of this stuff in-game is most of the fun of it
>>
>>342834871

m8 you don't get it. that's like buying a puzzle book and just looking at the answers page instead of solving it for yourself.
>>
>>342809128
Why is it called a Pedro spot? Do Mexicans often hide in hard to reach places from their bosses or something?
>>
>>342835257
In one of the videos he explains it's called that because it was accidentally found by a let's player casually playing named Pedro.
>>
>>342835257

because it was discovered by a dude named Pedro

>>
>>342835257

In true science fashion, the guy who discovered it was named pedro

Is this pancake guy the final stage of autism? He seems literally more autistic than even Ulillillia.
>>
>>342835932

He has a real job and does SM64 stuff as a hobby
He's using his autism for good
ulillillia is more autistic, because he doesn't know how to interact with people. Pannen is capable of making videos that actually teach concepts effectively

What good does finding obscure bugs in an ancient game does? They're not even fun bugs, but extremely specific and precise bugs only achievable by TAS.

What did you learn? Pannen himself seems to know very little about programming, he also often refers to "signals" being sent but there is no such things in programming. All you learned is variables and maybe strings which is less than what you learn in the first 2 pages of any programming book.
>>
Does anyone have the two pages of calculations ending with "Further advancements in Mario mathematics will need to be made"?
