what's a game with a massive fantasy world i can get lost in? something where i can chill out at a cozy little inn after a long day of adventuring.

bonus points for wizards, dwarves, skeleton soldiers and all that good shit. survival elements would be cool too, something where it's dangerous to go out at night and there's an actual threat of dying.

DD is really good for a couple dozen hours worth of getting lost in the world.

I recently got Gothic 3 and Risen 3 on the hopes that one or both can satisfy my hunger for actiony-explorey-comfy rpgs with great atmosphere, since I think I might have exhausted the list of games like this that interest me otherwise. :(

The latter if old as shit gameplay designs fuck you up

>>342783419
not at all, I like the game but there's literally one major city, a fishing village, and a couple of garrisons here and there. You also fight the same shit over and over half the time, the quicker you finish that game the better becuase you would have seen the best of it before it starts repeating itself
>>

Tried BG, didn't really like it. Granted, this was probably 12 years ago, so maybe I should give it another try. Also I loved Arcanum, which is similar, so maybe I should give it a try again... thanks Anon.

Played the shit out of NWN 1 and 2. So good.
RIP NWN, you didn't deserve to have your name shat on by the cashgrab MMO.

But regarding your point, the fighting is still fun I found even though there are similar enemies. The amount of classes you can go makes the same enemy a different fight.

Gran Soren is pretty neat, plus just getting around is most of the fun in the game. Those teleport stones ruin it I find, unless you only have one of them, which you get once you beat the game, or the gryphon, I cannot remember.

Oblivion. You can get it for 10 bucks on the summer sale and so far I'm having a blast as its my first real entry into the series, I didn't really like skyrim because i felt that whIle I could do a whole bunch, it felt pointless where oblivion feels different. It seems there are more consequences from your actions. From talking to guards to fighting wolves and potentially getting diseased and the mods mang the mods

WoW was designed to specifically be the most casual MMO. They made it extra cartoony, held your hand through everything, and all the story is presented through speech bubbles, they didn't even bother with cutscenes until several expansions in.

OP asked for a fun immersive experience. That's the opposite of WoW. You chose the worst MMO, get over it already, It's been years.

>>
>>342787938
Definitely not 3 or Arcania, 1 and 2 are on par, 1 being the more atmopheric one while 2 is highly polished, especially with NotR. I would start with G1 becuase you revisit a lot of locations in 2. If they don't click with you, Risen 1 is similar and very enjoyable.
Protip: Read the manual.
>>
Dragon Age: Origins is really comfy.
>>
Oblivion is the GOAT comfy fantasy game if you've never played it before. If this was 2006 I would recommend Guild Wars or Maplestory. In their prime those were the 2 comfiest MMOs ever. Guild Wars 2 is okay, but it was also at its comfiest a few years ago and it's died off now.

If you think immersive means "you can waste a lot of time here' you're fucking retarded. There is nothing immersive about doing 300 kill x number of x monster quests in a row.

It's cookie cutter and formulaic. Those things break immersion. If you want immersion you need a world that feels alive, and doesn't look like the same zone 40 times with a different texture on the ground.

Immersive is Gothic, or TES, or Divine Divinity, or Dragon's Dogma or Witcher. Not fucking WoW.

You use these words you hear on /v/ but you've got no concept of what they mean.
>>
It doesn't exist.

The closest would be something like an elder scrolls game or gothic. But what you're looking for is a fantasy series with a grounded sense of reality.

I'd actually like a game where you're just a mercenary trying to get rich so you can settle down later in life.

No stupid quests about civil wars or overwhelming demonic invasions, instead, lots of quests with good detail and intrigue and layers upon layers of underlying mystery and lore that builds up a grand personal quest that nets you treasure.

Yeah treasure that's a good idea. Games railroad you too much regarding treasure hunts. It's either "grab 50 of a specific item for an achievement" or a "find this specific item" quest that's usually quite underwhelming.

Though a game of this scale would be very difficult to make if you wanted it to be good.

>>
>>342788965
Imagine releasing the game and you can just play infinitely accumulating wealth by risking life and limb, to the point where you have a fence or auctioneer liquidating the loot you bring back, then in the second chapter of the game, you design an estate, and can continue adventuring for loot or design a business from the ground up hiring underlings to mine or farm or adventure for you, allowing you to expand your estate.

Bonus points if you slowly age, and need to marry and appoint an heir to continue your game.
>>
Something like Oblivion but with a completely non-linear narrative/quest progression and also comfiness.

Also with a relatively realistic scale. I want cities to be like cities. I want towns to be like towns. Farms should be huge. Villages should be decently sized. But of course, not too big or else it'll be boring.

>>342788965
I've often thought about a fantasy game based in realism. Something like if you try to take on a few orcs by yourself you're more than likely just gonna get killed. Or there are dragons and other legendary creatures in the game that you have no hope of beating. You're just a normal ass person in the world like everyone else. It'd be difficult to make a world like that and even more difficult to make it enjoyable. It'd just end up as tedious and frustrating because a normal man couldn't kill a cave full of goblins by himself and claim some long lost treasure. Even if he had three buddies with him they'd probably all still die. I just want a fantasy world that behaves like you'd expect it to if it was made real.
>>
>>342789561
Oh yeah, an heir system that acts like a ng+ of sorts, but the experience would be widely different and the things that your predecessors have done could have an effect on the world in a way.

I'm reminded of Rogue Legacy but I suppose that's not exactly the same.

What are you hoping to find when you explore in your ideal game? There are more than monster nests in TW3. There are abandoned castles, ruins, towers with bits of story to them scattered around. Yes there are plenty of bandit camps and monster nests, but even those sometimes have a bit of story added to them, or do you expect a lore-filled ruin everywhere you turn? TW3 is the best example of the idea that >>342788965 laid out.

>>
>>342793479
he may not think he's lying but don't do it.
It has nothing to do with elder scrolls games besides the "lore". It isn't anymore "immersive" than other themepark mmos and phasing is everywhere (that particularly bugs me, makes questing with friends annoying).
It's not godawful as far as themepark mmos go but you can do better, it's just very very very mediocre.
>>
>>342784793
I'll second heavily nodded skyrim played on a good rig. Even if you can't manage some of the insane graphics mods there are plenty meant for creating further immersion. Shit's cash. Look it up.

The game is great. The only part of it that is explicitly subpar is the last region of the game. It was grossly incomplete and left full of enemies with no quests or anything to accompany them, meaning just one big slog until completion. It's a shame, but fortunately it's completely isolated and you have a choice for when you commit to it, meaning it's a decent marker for when you're about to beat the game.
>>
>>342788919
I fucking love Luther Strodes artist.
This shit is beautiful.
>>
It makes me sad that no RPG (or any game for that matter) captures the feeling of adventure and questing that works like The Hobbit have.

DaS kind of does it in a way, but it's too dark to ever be comfy and everything is pretty much dead so theres no inns to kick back and relax before/after adventuring.

Darkest Dungeon also gets close with the whole camping mechanic and the town, but still also falls short because the exploration is non-existent.
>>
It doesn't exist, at least not to the extent that a fantasy novel can fulfill. Video games are just watered down versions of that.

Get the Merge patch. Get the mods that you like, open it in Merge patch and see if it's compatible, remove the ones that are incompatible, build a merge and install that merge into one mod.

no, it's one of the blandest and most boring games i've ever played, wouldn't recommend that to anyone

>just don't use it
>game is designed around you using it
>thieves guild in skyrim has you doing 30+ random back and forth quests they expect you to finish from opposite corners of the map
>almost no interesting random encounters on the road

dont listen to that fuck who replied, i liked it and i'm still wondering if i should just play it on my pc or ps3.

100 mods is kind of an exaggeration but yeah, Skyrim with Frostfall is both cozy and tense as fuck. Cozy when you're chilling under a tent by a warm fire drinking mead, tense when you're up in the mountains freezing and soaked from falling in a river and trying to clear a safe spot for a camp while freezing to death.

Are there any fantasy games that put a bigger emphasis on questing within the city rather than wilderness and dungeon looting?
>>
>>342802510
>What are carriages?

Btw I can't think of a single quest where the game forces you to use fast travel.

And there are random encounters on the road.

Also mods that let you kill kids are a necessity because there are some kids in the game who REALLY need to die.

The random event I run into 3 times out of 10. The rest is made up of random bandits or imperial soldiers or afflicted refugees.

Replace CDPR and Bethesda with Obsidian, and Troika, doing both interchangeably and I would.
>>
>>342784010

I'd be interested to hear the games like this you've already played.

They made PoE in Unity, no thanks

CDPR is better than Obsidian. Witcher 3's writing and quest are miles ahead of anything Interplay and Obsidian did.

Quest for Glory series.

Especially Quest for Glory 4.

May not be massive, but it delivers on everything else.
>>
>>342804236
I prefer mods that lets you fuck the kids personally, with the pregnancy mod. Cuz pregnant lolis in skyrim is just funny
>>
>>342804893
Witcher is great compared to shit we're currently swimming in, but it's writing is nowhere near the old Obsidian or Interplay.
>>
Morrowind
Skyrim
Witcher 3
Gothic Series

If you are really desperate:
Two Worlds 2
Dragon Age Inquisition
Neverwinter Nights 2
Divinity 2
Arcania
Risen Series

>>342805365
I'd argue that the Bloody Baron quest beats most of Obsidian and Interplay stuff.
>>
If open world is a requirement then Skyrim and The Witcher 3 are literally your best options.
>>
>>342804893
Didn't try Witcher 3 but I really hated the level design in Witcher 2. Too much emphasis on trying to look purdy while limiting player movement with excessive amounts of invisible walls and stupidly strict places where you could jump off or climb up ledges.

Besides, invisible walls have always been a pet peeve of mine. If you want to block a player from going somewhere put a fucking rail or wall in front of it, not a pointless invisible barrier.

>Love of open world fantasy stuff got me into table top
>Actually having a great time
You really need the right group to make it work though
>>
>>342782810
Have you played Morrowind?
Have you played Dragon's Dogma?

Play Enclave if you haven't, it's not really an RPG or open world but it should scratch the action adventure fantasy itch.
>>
>>342805365
Have you even played the Witcher 3?

The Bloody Baron storyline, H&S and B&W dlcs have the best quests/writing/characters ever created in an rpg.
>>
>>342805590
I haven't played 1 or 2, but witcher 3 is completely open world.

>The Bloody Baron storyline, H&S and B&W dlcs have the best quests/writing/characters ever created in an rpg

witcher 3 is a wonderful game, but you must have not played a lot of RPGs if you are serious about this
>>
>>342805742
Witcher 1 is also open world albeit limited however the gameplay is really no fun unless you got a thick skin.
>>
>>
>>342806009

not him but i've played nearly every crpg and i think h&s and bits of w3 and b&w are definitely contenders for best quests
>>
>>342802161
it gets pretty dull after awhile.
it just plays like a single player mmo.
