It's like Oblivion or Skyrim if, instead of leveled lists, there was a strict level progression of content. Like, there's a level range for the vicinity of the Imperial City, then a higher level range for Chorrol, and a higher range for Kvatch, and a higher range for Bruma, and so forth. So not only do you have to do things in order, but you can't meaningfully return to earlier areas.
And really if they finally finished excising the Daggerfall/Morrowind skill system to replace with an incredibly bland MMORPG progression system.

All zones will just scale you up to max level. So, you start out in, let's say, Stonefalls (Morrowind) and your stats are instantly scaled to a max level players. Same goes for all of the mobs in that zone.

LFG times for dungeons are normally less than a minute.
the game's "Auction House" system is pretty weird. You need to be in a guild, and that guild buys an NPC. Said NPC serves as their guild shop. Players in the guild can put up items for sell at that NPC.
A low population would not support this system. You wouldn't have enough players going to the less popular cities and NPC shops.

I am playing it, but the three faction thing is fucking me over. my friends that I play with are split between daggerfall and ebonheart. You can't fucking faction change in this game so I have to roll a character on each one and that's killing my drive to play. I'm still new to the game so let me ask this: If I get the Adventurer's pack and play for example an orc in the ebonheart pact, do I still get to do pvp in the ebonheart as the orc or do I get sent back to the daggerfall covenant?

It has actually been lowered a number of times in order to alleviate lag and framerate issues (which are still terrible). Closest estimates are about ~100 players per alliance for a capped population.

There's very little gear customization and no real build customization.

played for a few months, and dropped for some reason. pvp campains were boss, and the scaling system was the best i've seen. side quests vary alot, alot of fetch quests, but still some interesting longer quests.

Crafting allows you to make gear in (30? 40?) diffrent styles currently.
There's over 200 diffrent dyes in the game unlocked via achievements.

I've played off and on since the betas, mainly focused on pvp. It can be tons of fun but lately the lag and framerate issues, combined with frustrating mechanics (roots/snares have you moving in slow motion 90% of the time) and broken skills (gap closers failing to work/working to a ridiculous extent turning you into superman flying across the sky/etc). Not to mention the lack of dev communication as to what changes they're making or why. The game is a clusterfuck.
The official forums are hilarious to read at times. You can see just how frustrated people are with the lack of dev response to issues. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/categories/alliance-war is a great example.
Recently on pc there was an outbreak of cheating with cheatengine (yes, cheat engine completely works with the game). ZoS announced that they permabanned 43 people as a result of cheating. Slowly but surely, most of their accounts have been reinstated. It's seriously a joke the way these devs go about things.

Been playing it on and off for a couple of weeks with a friend. I remember playing it back in the beta and not liking it enough to buy it, but it's pretty solid now I'd say. It definitely feels a lot more like an Elder Scrolls game than it did back then. I like that questing/leveling is basically just running around and running into things to do (but in a less shitty way than something like GW2)
The game's fun and has a lot of content quest-wise and grinding-wise that is not too boring, however I find the balance and pvp lacking.
Almost nobody plays in the imperial city iit seems: i went there after getting all the dlcs and grinding the darkbrother hood, and after a few hours discovering shit, I stumbled upon a Sorcerer that was level 22, with plate gear from the skin that I literally couldn't kill.
He had the two pets slotted and lightning atronarch, and I just couldnt damage him. He kept getting passively healed all the times. I was a ~40 templar with a full versatile build.
After like 30 mins of stabbing each others and I was slowly losing and had to pop potions while doing no damage, I jumped on the elites nearby and died.

It's a really comfy game /v/. Also I've already found a Guild and have multiple friendships already. The game has one of the nicest and cleanest communities I've ever seen in any MMO.
I suppose this is the trade off when all the normal MMO fanbase stays to WoW or FFXIV and its a good trade off.

There's stuff for experience. It's actually pretty easy to get to max level in the first place though, especially if you're clever. Champion points are a bit harder. Experience points matter a lot less in this game, skillpoints and gear end up being more important.
Probably the biggest P2W things are things like potions and other resource things.
DLC also offer additional skill lines and perks sometimes, but most of them are pretty situational or not too useful in PVP. Big appeal of DLC is more questlines, as they tend to be far better quality than vanilla

If you don't have the DLC sets, you can buy them from other players or from a guild trader that's selling them. You can also get them as dungeon rewards. (Undaunted chests)
As for cosmetics, there are over 30 diffrent styles to craft. All without the DLC. No style is locked behind a paywall.

Nope. Doesn't work like that.
Max gear is at 160. Each part will take 120-150 materials. Then you'll need enchants and jewelry. Upgrade it if you want, but there's no need to go past purple.
No one loses due to a 5% disadvantage. There's to much skill involved in PvP for gear at that level to matter. At that point, it's down to your build and how you use your skills.

It takes months to max crafting. Each armor/ weapon type has 9 traits that need to be researched. Research times increase as you learn more with any particular item. Without the subscription, the 9th trait for each item takes 30 days, I believe. Pain in the ass, and something I'll never want to do again in any game.

Buy houses and turn them in to brewerys, blacksmiths, alchemy labs, whatever. You can even hire workers and send them to get resources and craft things for you. Story. With Dark Brotherhood you can also take assassination contracts. It's just another way to make gold.
Thieves guild allows you to go on instanced heists. Again, just good for making gold.

Not all of them. The costumes sold in the gemstore are cash-shop-only. Those are the only cosmetics behind a paywall, though. You can craft in any style you want.
The way you craft in diffrent styles is this:
Each race has a style book, finding, let's say, the Nord Race's book, allows any other race to craft in the nord style. Even the Imperial race's book can be found.
There's also rare styles. Styles like The Dwemer, Xyvkin, Daedric, Mercenary, etc. are found in chapters. So, you might find Book Three of the Xyvkin style and then be able to make Xyvkin daggers. Find the rest of the Xyvkin books to craft other items in that style.
DLC Styles can be bought from other players if you don't want to buy the DLC but just want to craft in a style that comes with it.

You can run max-level dungeons from level 15. You stats are scaled up based on your selection of skills and what role you selected in the LFG tool.
You can PvP from level 10. There's a PvP zone that lets non-max'd players in and scales them up just like the LFG tool does for dungeons.
Gear means fuck all. It's just there if you want it.

Imperials are fucking trash if you're min/maxing. Their races are:
10% chance to heal 3% health upon melee hit
Increase max health by 80%
Increase max Stamina by 10%
The only good passive there is the 10% stamina increase, and that's only if you're playing melee DPS.

When I play a game, I like to get immersed in it, and have fun. I don't want to be reminded that OOPS I can't do that because I haven't spent another 20 bucks. OOPS I can't play as that race because I haven't spent another 20 bucks. OOPS all of those cash-shop items are unavailable to me because I don't want to spend more money.
That is what I expect from a F2P game. I am okay with that in F2P games because I can say to myself, "I am gonna have as much fun without spending a penny".
But if I buy TESO, suddenly I am thinking, "well I've already spent 30 bucks on the game. If I spend another 20 bucks I can unlock another 10% of the content. And another 20 bucks for another 10% of the content". The MOMENT I step into that game, I am gonna be reminded that I don't have access to content that many other players do, and that will make me last-picked for groups, and at a disadvantage in PVP.
Basically, it would make me uncomfortable knowing that I just spent 30 bucks on a game that is basically only 80% of the full game. It's the same reason why I don't buy games with DLC until I can get the whole lot bundled together.

BDO is a horrible mmo. Fun as hell singleplayer game, but they've removed almost every typical mmo aspect from it. My guild of 70+ people just completely died out about a month ago as we all got bored with endgame.
Also after 50 (assuming you built up your infrastructure and didn't rush like a retard) there really isn't anything to do other than grinding, endless grinding of mobs.
