I think the time traveling aspect would've worked better if the game gave more freedom to explore its maps, as completing some sidequests is really annoying with restrictions of where you can and can't go depending on which node you go back to.

The charm's in the characters, the weirdly ambitious plot and the combat system.

The protagonist is also really anti-edge and comes across like an actual soldier. Which is a nice change from all the animu crap these games are usually filled with.

Holy shit, this. Game could've been great with a bigger budget and it shows. It's the reason a lot of people love the game; the potential it holds shines brightly even though it's almost entirely squandered.

I like JRPGs but I grew up in Gamepro times where if I heard about a game with a retarded title that didn't make any sense, I usually didn't play it
