Holy shit Painkiller is so bad.
First I got tricked into thinking Serious Sam was an "old-school shooter," then I got fooled by Painkiller "is totally different" meme. Shame on me.
You know EXACTLY when there's monsters around because you touch a red checkpoint to spawn them in a small arena, and then the music starts. Once they're all dead, the music stops. No tension. No exploring. And this boring ass first weapon kills everything in one hit.
Terrible. And this is supposedly better than the sequels.

I liked Painkiller, but I never finished it.

Slightly offtopic, someone mentioned Devil Daggers yesterday in a Steam thread and I've been having a blast.
The sounds are spot on and feel really creepy.

Yeah, I think they nailed the old FPS feeling well. that graphics are low quality, but done very well in that it doesn't look like shitty pixel art from "retro" games. It feels authentic.
It's a very basic game, but if you like Quake or Doom at all it's fun.
The average game is like 2 minutes, but it's addictive. I'm playing right now actually
