Endlessly fascinating simulations of physics, graphics, challenges, puzzles, storytelling, etc. Great outlets for artistic expression and creativity with limitless possibilities. Greatest form of entertainment IMO and also great for socializing and general escapism. Just sucks that now there are people calling the shots in the industry who no longer want gaming to be about escapism or experiences with any level of depth but rather have their own agendas which involves you paying to have it shoved down your throat rather than having the kind of enjoyable experience you were looking for.

This sums it up. For me, though, I never saw it as an escapism thing. I appreciate games much more for the artistic aspect. I like to experience games for the design choices made by the creators in order to capture a certain feeling given to the player, and seeing what makes a game unique and remarkable is what brings satisfaction to me.
