Throughout the game I had a very weird lingering feeling that the X1 cast didn't care much about the X2 characters and mainly saw their struggles as just another sidequest in their story of saving the world. There's evidence in the game to the contrary like the affection meters but I couldn't shake that impression.
Then the handling of Fractured Milla increased that feeling a hundredfold. Though Ludger and Elle were properly anguished the X1 cast outright and openly did not give a shit. I still can't decide if this bizarre atmosphere of the X1 cast merely pretending to care about Ludger was intentional or not or if it was all in my head.

You know now that you mention it I DID kindof get that feeling. Especially in the Bad Ending where your characters, while understanding, eventually just tell you to fucking get on with it. But.. it WAS called out at one point that Jude doesn't really give a shit about Fractured Milla because the real one he cares about will return.
So I guess when you look at it from the X1 cast's point of view, they went through a lot together and the X2 cast are strangers outside of the clique. Even nice people sometimes find it hard to give genuine fucks about such things especially when self-interest is involved like returning True Milla and saving the world they worked their asses off and sacrificed much to achieve.
It just could've been handled better. More dialogue and scenes to delve into it.

Intentional or not, I honestly loved the atmosphere the game had for me. Slightly surreal and very unique as far as JRPGs go. Thinking that I know and love this X1 cast but then feeling inexplicably suspicious if they're telling me how they really feel or what their true intentions are.
I wonder if the cast would have been so willing to resort to violent persuasion if opening the path to Canaan/Bad End involved the sacrifice of Jude or Milla (for good) rather than Julius. Probably not. They probably would have left no stone untouched in the pursuit of another way.

Most of the game was out of Luke's control. He's a 7 year old with a 17 year old's hormones and he's kept in the dark about everything. Suddenly REPLICA and Asch is taking his anger out on someone who had no control over his situation, except for maybe trusting his teacher way too much.
The final Asch vs Luke fight is Asch coming to terms with them being different people, not just an original and his clone, and accepting Luke for who he is.
Ludger and millia didnt deserve this senpaitachi.

I'm able to do something really similar and construct a personality for the Persona protagonists because they have great designs that communicate their personalities well, as well as dialogue options that are unified and consistent throughout their games. Look at the P3 protagonist and the P4 protagonist and you can tell at a glance how different they are in personality.
I feel nothing at all for the mainline SMT protagonists but I do understand why they're silent. Those games are based heavily upon player choice and morality. I can still enjoy their games because I'm not playing them for the characters.

I enjoy the stories, the worlds and the characters. I will sit and spend an entire hour talking to NPCs, looking at objects to inspect, and absorb everything about the world. It's fun and I enjoy a well built game if only just to find bonus pages of journals to read and piece things together.
I dropped Zest because it didn't have this sort of thing going for it and was just a poorly built game anyways. But I can still go back to Abyss and poke around Baticul for fun.

Pretty much the exact reason why I love jRPGs myself. If one makes me stop to actually WALK around and stand somewhere nice, move the camera and inspect my surroundings and listen to the music, it's doing a good job.
I remember play SMT: Nocturne for the first time way back when. I felt so absorbed into the game from the first fucking minute. I inspected every inch of that goddamn hospital with that eerie tune in the background. Being able to see the other corridors and floors through the glass panes. Being able to see the clouds go past, the other buildings across the road from the hospital and cars driving past, all inhabited by people not knowing the world's about to end in a few moments.

I bought Nocturne on PSN but have yet to play it. I kind of pop in and out of the SMT games like DDS and Raidou vs TSA. However, they're a lot more straight forward and don't allow much exploration. Raidou especially since I think the'res only 3 safe areas.
Tales games are my favorites because they're meant for poking and prodding around towns, and even Graces has interesting side content while having what I believe is the absolute worst story in the entire franchise. The stories are nothing mind blowing, but I don't ignore them because I like to be told a story and know what happens.

Traditionally Tales let's you equip Arte in whatever slot you want and you have a certain order to follow (Tokugi, Higi, Ougi).
This applies to the majority of Tales games, then you have the cancels and skills that extend your chain that make things more deep.
Destiny PS2 did away with the classic Tokugi, Higi, Ougi order and lets you combo in whatever way you wanted, basically.
Graces for whatever retarded reason had a fully locked Arte tree. You could only use Artes in one order and that's it. It just felt repetitive and dumbed down.
Zestiria was basically the same with A Artes but let you skip Arte order by side-stepping and had fully custom B Artes.
Berseria will have a fully custonomizable Arte tree and you have four buttons to combo, so there will be plenty of freedom.
Nobody ever mentioned basic attacks in the entirety of the conversation.
For the record, what you are whining about the weakness system that has been prevalent on anything Tatsurou Udo designed since Destiny (Graces, Xillia 2, Zestiria) is entirely true, you are just fucking terrible at wording your thoughts.

That's intentional. Fractured Milla + Elle flipping the fuck out about the X1 cast not caring about her is one of the most important points in the game. The game treats it exactly as it should; the X1 cast just wants their friend, the "real" Milla back. From their perspective Fractured Milla isn't real. The game kind of assumes the player is like that as well, and just wants their Milla from the first game back. But Elle goes apeshit on them, telling them that Fractured Milla was her friend, and that to her and Luger, she WAS the real Milla.
It's supposed to come to a head in the final decision. Elle is not the "real" Elle. But does that make her experiences and life not valid? Is she not a real person with emotions, memories, and feelings just like Fractured Milla was? That's the choice Luger makes. It's the reason why Elize and Rowen say that he chose her; not a possible Elle, but rather her, and her life, here and now.
Fractured Milla has a hard life. But her part of the story is crucial to the game, Elle and Luger, and their ending.
