What the fuck is up with this game?

It's so weird and quirky, I want to refund it but I also don't.

Deadly Premonition is a "homage" to a show called "Twin Peaks". Watch that and it'll make sense (probably)

It's gameplay is a massive drag, but Francis York Morgan and the rest of the cast made me keep playing.

Honestly, I hate to say this about most games, but just watch Super Great Friend's lets play. He 100%s the game which would be a colossal waste of time otherwise, cuts off some of the fat, and doesn't talk over important parts/is generally actually full of useful knowledge. Playing through it normally with no meta knowledge means you'll make the already dull combat super frustrating too the later you get and you'll miss a lot because the game frustratingly keeps on treating everything like a rush while having all the sidequests take place inbetween those moments the story treats like a rush.

Stop with the fucking memeing. This is not some misunderstood jewel, it's plain shit.

Fucking shooting sections and driving is killing this precious little gem.
>>
>>342701295
I think I might have to do that an LP.

I've tried to play it on PC, but it just crashes randomly every 15-20 minutes, and as there's no quick save, it just became unbelievably frustrated to rush through a section hoping it doesn't crash before the save points.
>>
This is the shittiest crappiest ugliest most engaging fascinating best game In the world. Holy shit is it so bad/good.

More like how old are you

Seriously, I just started watching Twin Peaks this year thanks to this game and I'm fuckin' old enough to have seen the show during its run.

In a world where 2nd Season wasn't a shitshow Twin Peaks went on to become a household name

I worry for the fate of 3rd season now that log lady died, she kept the original log all these years. She was the spiritual anchor.

>>342699637

Do not refund it. It has replay value out the ass, and once you do a blind playthrough you're gonna blow your mind looking at how much shit you missed afterwards.

Stick with it. It's has a lot of glaring flaws, especially gameplay wise, but if you're anything like me, you're going to fall in love with the characters, the worldbuilding, the plot, the mystery.

>>342701376
I think the thing that annoyed me most was whenever you stop the car to check something out or grab a card York would do the "okay Ill tell you the rest later" thing and when you get back in and continue he starts the story from the fucking beginning. And stopping driving every 5 minutes means you hear the same part of the story over and over and never get to the end of the analogy.

Other than that, fucking great game.
>>
I can't get this game to run for some reason. Won't go past the opening FMV.

Everything you need to fix the PC port and then some. Beware, even these fixes won't always do the trick. Greenvale is a fickle mistress

Right. I love Deadly Premonition but I don't know if I'd appreciate it nearly as much if I wasn't a big Twin Peaks fan. A lot of it would probably fly over my head.

The driving is easily the worst I've ever played. The tiniest turn and the car would slide on its side.
>>342701693
This as well.
The sidequests had really obnoxious parameters, especially Emily's.
The shooting could be better. If it wasn't for the infinite ammo guns, I don't know if I would have finished.
Those are just the ones I can think of the top of my head and I'l still call this one of my favorite games.

Yeah, you can make the minimap while driving around bigger with one of the trigger buttons. The red room map is just Zach being a shit and turning your map the direction you're facing. Poor York

>>342701915

You're welcome, other anon.
>>
I wouldn't recommend this game on PC to anyone, the fucking game doesn't want you to play it even after applying so many fixes by just crashing at different parts.

It made me so mad I kept getting stucked after killing all the zombies in the hospital. I spent more than 3 hours by that point trying to make the game work and couldn't get a refund.
>>
>>342702058
I'm guessing to see if someone was home, but going to the door told you whether they were home or not. Maybe part of some cut content, maybe Swery wanted it because he could.

>>

>>
>>342702206

I had one crash after applying all of the fixes, and didn't even get the infamous diner crash.

There is no rhyme or reason to it, and it's all on Access Game's shoulders for making such a terrifying nightmare of code.

That's probably why we never got a Drakengard 3 port on PC, probably runs on an engine coded similarly to DP
>>

It makes sense, though. I heard the game had no combat sections at first, it was probably just QTEs and some stealth elements, given the fact that you can hide in every trash container in town

But one of the higher-ups told them there had to be a combat system, and this is what we got

>>342701759

>>
It's the best worst game you'll ever play. Savour it, OP, it's a true experience.
>>
>>342699637

It's for those who understand it. I don't mean the story or character or anything. I just mean the sincere low budget nature of it all. Only from Japan can you get a game with so many different feels.

>>342699972

Its not a homage, it's a huge ripoff. It's a low budget ripoff of Twin Peaks. Except it's good. Really good. Think of comparing it to all the Italian Dawn of the Dead and Mad Max ripoffs. And the game even nods to itself as being inspired by shitty B-Movies.

You don't need Twin Peaks at all OP, just know that the game is not original in a setting or character sense. It's original in a "feel" sense. An odd surreal ambience of optimism, melancholy, and intrigue that only a japanese videogame can bring.
>>
reading this thread made me buy it desu
>>
>>342703979

Deadly Premonition was never meant to have gameplay. I think they were forced by the publisher to half-assedly insert shooting into their gameworld they already constructed.

It's why Swery's game after this one doesn't have any combat. It's just a point and click adventure.
>>
>>342704305
You done good.
Here's hoping you'll actually be able to play it.
>>
>>342703979
Cars control like they're on ice, shooting feels like you're shooting nerf darts at enemies, melee weapons hit somewhere to the top-right of the actual melee weapon when you swing it and it requires you to be point blank next to the enemy to hit them, the wall crawling zombies are just terrible, there's the durability system in general until you get the guitar or infinite durability weapon, and it just generally feels clunky to do anything.
>>
>>342699637
The characters are likeable but the game also happened to have the worst shooting and driving sections ever

>>342703180
If you're still early in the game, you should know that that the otherworld parts become shorter as the game goes on.

I remember distinctly because one of the early action parts (lumber mill possibly?) almost made me drop the game because of how long and tedious it was. I told myself then that I wouldn't finish the game if each action part was like that. I did end up finishing and loving the game, so go figure.

Chances are that if you make it through the first couple of chapters, you will not be able to put it down.
>>

I'm on the follow nick part, from what i saw i think there'll be an other world segment at muses gallery. Got an infinite magnum and a submachine gun.

I'm also playing it in short burts, sometimes once a week. I don't think i could play this game like i play most others.
>>
>>342701193
It's a good game, but it has some major flaws, the twin peaks angle kinda wears off after a while and the last boss is really really weak and completely out of the left field ruining the themes of the game. Combat is really really shitty and easy as hell and the animations and graphics are ps2 tier. But it has it's moments I'd say it's a diamond in the rough.
>>

>>
>>342699637
Play to the end anon...

It's probably my favourite game because of how much doesn't work right.

>Map requires you to actually learn the town to understand it
>Combat intense on hard unless you decide to rock the electric guitar all game before giving it back which kills anything in a hit or two
>So many extra scenes just for replaying and going off the beaten path to meet people early
>Midnight
>>
I tried watching Twin Peaks and it isn't bad, but considering just how similar it is to Deadly Premonition and having played DP first its hard to watch.

Deadly Premonition does everything Twin Peaks wanted to but better. Aside from combat that Twin Peaks did much better (by having none).

Though the idea of "secret" missions to get cool stuff like an unlimited ammo bazooka and stuff are neat. its just the combat sections are so bad
>>
Watch Giant Bomb Endurance run (the one with Jeff and Vinny).

You get most of the fun of the game with hilarious commentary, but its annoying they only do like 20% of the side content.
