How the hell did this game get the adult rating when there are countless games out there with much more graphic violence?
>>
What do you consider "much more graphic violence"?
>>
>>342682273
I guess because you can shoot people that can only flail their arms, scream and run the fuck away from you as their only method of defense and execute them in rather graphic ways.

How about this classic? Plenty more besides this game to.
>>
>>342682582
So this doesn't happen in GTA, RDR and many other games?
>>
>>342682519
KF2 comes to mind. Also the children scenes in Prey. Not sure why an isometric game got an AO rating but those didn't.
>>
What was the name of the protagonist in this again?
>>
>>342684369
Nought Amportant.
>>
>>342683136
I encourage you to make a comparison between deaths in GTA and Nottim Portant's game executions, then put yourself in the place of a soccermom and then reflect on which one makes you "think of the children" harder.
>>
I think the difference is that game is about killing unarmed civilians and cops.
>>
Because it is an indie dev produced game about a mass shooter.

All the boohoos about mass shootings and general PC hugbox attitude right now is what got it the rating. Games like CoD and that airport mission get by because they have Activision around to bankroll ratings boards.

Left 4 Dead 2
>>
Because the way the content is presented.
The violence in Hatred is straight up malicious shit being done by the protag, and that makes the ratings board lose their fucking minds.

Meanwhile the kids being murked in prey like that gaylord mentioned is presented as the bad guys being bad and another reason to go fuck them up.
>>
Because it didn't sugar code anything, you just straight up kill people so you have people probably thinking "muh terrorist simulator"
>>
>>342684369
Nott M. Portent
>>
>>342683136
In gta and RDR you can do that sure, not as graphic as Hatred but sure. But the key difference is in Hatred the whole purpose of the game is killing as many innocents as you can the whole game. In GTA and RDR its just something you can do and you can finish the game without going on a civilian killing rampage. Its not something the game is all about

Doesn't GTA V portray a graphically-disfigured dead child and a woman who was raped with her tit cut off and her hands/feet sewn on at the opposite limbs?
>>
The game was never formally reviewed by the ESRB.

The studio used the ESRB guidelines to estimate what the possible outcome of an ESRB review would be, then self-submitted the rating to steam.

it was both a marketing ploy and a way to save money. They only get in trouble if their self submitted rating is lower than what the ESRB would formally rate, and since they picked the highest option its not actually possible to be wrong.
>>
>>342684970
I don't remember any of that in V.
>>
>>342684445
Clearly you are just being bias here. Just like the ESRB rated it this way for "my feelings" purposes only due to the outrage over the game.

Hate to say the obvious but it's true. Not even defending the game but there are countless games that have been made with more graphic violence. Maybe it's you who hasn't played a single GTA game. You literally torture a man in 5 so you need to think harder.

Context, coupled with general tone.

The go to argument seems to be "but GTA!"
In GTA, the OBJECTIVE is not to kill civilians.
You can outside of missions if you want, but murdering innocent people isn't the goal of the game. Even when you do, it never stops being comical. You're killing walking caricatures.
Same thing with Postal, the whole thing is so fucking goofy there's no need to take it seriously.

Both of those games are like an episode of South Park or something, just light hearted shock humour.

That's the reasoning.
Personally, I think the AO rating is redundant and serves more as a statement than an actual restriction.
M and AO should be the same thing, if you're 18 buy whatever you want.

Ugh! Those disgusting video games. I don't let my son near them, personally - he is doing very well playing with his Deadpool action figure.
Video games are so crude and violent.
>>
>>342684970
What GTA V did you play?

>the whole purpose of the game is killing as many innocents

Oh so suddenly this is what makes a game adult rated? So even if there is no blood and candy pops out of the civilians it then should be too much for an M rating right?

I could have swore I recalled MW2 had murdering innocents in an airport. Even if it got controversy it apparently wasn't enough to warrant an AO rating according to the ESRB.
>>
>>342684970
Manhunt?
>>
>>342685337
AO and M in America seem to be pretty much the same thing. In Japan though, the difference between D and Z can be quite big.
>>
>>342685607
>I could have swore I recalled MW2 had murdering innocents in an airport
You can get through that level without killing a single innocent soul. Also the game gives you an option to skip that part.
>>
>>342685812
Whatever you say man. I'm just emphasizing the point that the backlash against Hatred was "muh feels" motivated is all.

There can be no other reason. It would just be lame excuses since there is no shortage of violent games out there with graphic gore and even being able to murder innocent npc's as the player character.

Might be a good idea for an indie studio actually.

Exclusively make games that are AO.
Proper porn games and more messed up violence than the standard stuff people see.
Considering there are practically no AO games out there, marketing yourself as the only devs doing it would be great publicity.
The likely constant media controversy would keep boosting their sales.
Nobody out there is pumping out AAA quality porn games, so they could corner that market and make BANK.
>>
>>342686367
Sony, Microsoft and especially Nintendo do not allow these types of games on their consoles. They are also not allowed to sell these kind of games in stores either.

You don't see them much because they couldn't sell well in the first place. There really hasn't been any AO game truly worth playing anyways. If you want porn you should just watch actual porn.

It's because the MC is able to kill women and lesser people (but not children), and the ((((government)))) wants you to be accustomed to killing only white straight men.

The media is attempting the same level of behind-closed-doors control video game industry that they do with the film industry. To make it something that can't exist without you having to be in a conference room with them; where they tell you how things work.

Once you sit on a pedestal of industry, you want to dictate it. It then goes on behind closed doors without a democratic process. It's simply a measure of control.

There are two measures going on right now. The one that wants to maintain a measure of freedom in ideas, and the other that wants to contain ideas, and make it into something that they can maintain and ensure doesn't go outside of their ideas of what is.

Media was once a message that couldn't be controlled. It should remain that way. There should be any social pressure. The perfect message is one that has no attempt at censorship. It's attainable only if you let the message speak, no matter what it says.

A whole year later, edgelords still in full damage control over their shitty cancer game.
>>
>>342686042
the developers wanted to create controversy because they knew their game wouldn't sell if they didn't. if there was more substance to the game other than being a terrorist simulator, then the trailer certainly didn't advertise it.
