The Long Dark is great.
It's probably the most refined and complete sandbox survival game currently available, despite still being in early access.
They just added a while bunch of challenge modes in addition to the sandbox.
The first season of the campaign is coming out soon™.
Very strong recommend.
The only real downside is that long-term survival can become tedious.

The aforementioned challenge modes are pretty fun, especially the one where you have to cross half the map with a bear chasing you.
The campaign mode should be in soon™, supposedly this Spring and they just opened up a testing branch for it so actually soon most likely.
The sandbox is still very open ended which is kind of the point, but as said before it gets pretty tedious after the first hundred days. The new areas they keep adding helps this, though. There are five huge areas now and a whole ton of smaller transitional ones.

Ryse is one of the worst games I've ever played. The combat is tedious to the point of me not even wanting to finish the game, let alone the level I was on. You'll probably start off ferrying npcs you never see between stations in different sectors, crawling towards ship upgrades to becomes a short distance small cargo transport. Eventually you'll splurge on an actual transport to do the same more efficiently or if you're brave, a small fighter to do combat missions and capture ships. From there it's raising capital to not only build and fund your own trading stations, but also protect them and supply yourself with enough shit to have FUN. Shit includes hundreds of ships between the various races, relations and economies to provide context, and occasionally tetris aliens or pirates warping in and fucking everything up if there isn't a patrol nearby (player owned or otherwise).
That's the main series and again, I haven't played Rebirth but everything I've seen of it seems like it's thrown the X series fundamentals to the winds

Yep. They nerfed payouts for billboard missions, made 80% of smuggling missions fail upon scan, and locked 3rd party software out of trading info. They also made combat AI cheat (unlimited chaff with 10sec cooldown). All the new ships they've released that aren't literally worthless are locked behind 40+ hours of faction rep grinding each in addition to costing 200mil+ credits.
Horizons is also literally worthless. Wait until next season when they add ship interiors.

Played through the entire game several times. The only issue I've ever had is some jagged movement on the ferry at the start of the game. The rest of the game is completely fine.
I'm curious to know what problems you had which were so bad that you'd call it "atrocius" and recommend not playing it at all.

I played through both AW's recently and was amazed how good the ports were.

Bit late but the combat is great for an ARPG. It has the DMC style delayed attack combos on normal attacks, also 6 slots for other class abilities that get increasingly ridiculous (shooting a party member into an enemy, spidermanning enemies to the ground, becoming an ATATATATATATATATA sword machine while invincible from the front, pepping your greatsword into an instrument of divine retribution, sorcerer spells in general)
Would recommend on the combat, what I'll say though is that due to the mostly static spawns it's a game that rarely gets harder. If you play it do the main game first and stall before the final end, the dungeon there is really good. Don't touch Bitterbutt Isle before you're done with that because the xp gains and equipment are so ridiculous they'll trivialise the mainland
