A Link to the Past laid the foundation for the concept of the Zelda series having a legendary history that you were a part of as opposed to the more generic explore lands and fight monsters games that the first two games were about. I love the game to death, but OoT succeeded in making the world of Hyrule seem like an actual place that people lived in and ALttP didn't do that.

I think most of the water dungeons are really fun, because they require you to think about what you're doing and where you're going, whereas most of the challenge that I can remember from Link's Awakening was usually just some bullshit like having to kill every enemy in the room, or bomb some random wall, or whatever. I don't remember very well, but I do remember never actually having fun when I played it.
