After Mighty No. 9, I swore to myself that I'd never back any Kickstarter again, but fuck it. I'm gonna back this shit.

I just played the demo and I had a dumb smile on my face during the whole thing. It's already more polished than the final MN9 game. The graphics, the animations, the UI, the music, everything is miles better. Doesn't even feel like it's being developed by the same team (Inti, not Comcept).

Torrent if anyone wants it: https://thepiratebay.org/torrent/15067046/Bloodstained__Ritual_of_the_Night_Demo

>>
>>342609950
hopefully that means theyre learning not to make turds. it feels lack luster in the difficulty, but the game's physics and feel works. Even the familiar jump weapon cancel is there.

A potential difference is that IGA brought people he's worked with in the past with him. So at the very least there's IGA and his cadre that are competent.
>>

Inafune did the same though.
>>

>I feel like the boss is too easy.
Well, it is a tutorial level.
>>
>>342612068
No i mean like, I used two potions to heal up before the fight, but I didn't actually need them even though I had a quarter of my health left. it was that easy. I wasn't even using the sword. just kicking. I'm not sure why she keeps lowering herself so I can smack her tits and face either. I mean its hot i guess, but she can't attack while doing that and she's way to voulnerable at all other points of the fight for her to afford a weak to damage cycle in her attack pattern.

>>342612000
Makes me wonder how awful inafune has to be for that game to turn out so awful. I felt like I can direct a better game just by testing whatever they throw together and giving suggestions based on game feel.

I don't understand how kickstarter is a legitimate thing
>>
>>342615978

>>
>>342615737

>>342615978
most of the time you can purchase the game by backing it, the reason you might not want to do that is if you want to support the backer but are reluctant to purchase until you know it meets your specifications, or your financial situation wont let you donate more.

theres nothing wrong with kickstarter other than the enormous cut kickstarter takes from you, but thats the price of a well known and sought platform. you charge for it. Kickstarter helps small companies fend off problems with piracy as they get their money in advance. people pay for the game, get the game, and will devote more money if they feel like the game might be worth more than theyre paying or they want other rewards. That's it though, thats all you have to do to use it like a normal game is to buy it and trust the devs. it's weakness is that often the devs are unproven or just shit out a turd anyway like mighty no 9. but any model has a weakness, kickstarter and things like it allow games to be made that would otherwise never exist.

I don't think it's necessarily that the tumblr style is that obnoxiously bad (its not good either though), it's that the community is a circle jerk and once someone does a thing that gets popular, everyone on there starts copying it. There are countless artists who all only draw that face (down slanted eyes, red cheeks and nose, confused/vacant expression, wide mouth) and then just add hair/clothing/accessories to make it apparent it's who the character is supposed to be.

Yeah, you can fall through the floor on the part where you exit the ship the second time. You have to jump as far left going through the vertical screen transition, and you need to only go a few pixels over the transition. Not sure if mashing jump made it work, its not very consistent.

Be careful, you can fall all the way through the boat.

Reminder that good games come from KS with low to moderate funding.

Things that blow up into meme status and way overachieve their goal like Scam Citizen, Shroud of the Avatar (which is a colossal failure with dismal steam ratings) and MN9 turn out to be shit. Devs lose focus when they have that much money shoveled at them before a product was even created.

It's all in the KS terms and conditions. Anyone who donates their money away without knowing what they are getting into deserves to lose it if it happens. Actually, it being available only backers "officially" is a better publicity stunt. Just tried it. Not sure if hype. It feels typical metroidvania, but not sotn level.

>cancelling the backdash with crouch seems to not be faster that just mashing backdash repeatedly.
>cancelling backdash into a jump does not retain horizontal momentum
>it's another game with tons of different attacks that are split into a small moveset that makes combining them not fun because you have to menu switch all the time. Lots of games do this and it breaks the flow of gameplay.
>3d makes the visual feedback from animations less snappy than you would get with sprites. I love the jump kick though.
>I want the combat to be more complex than sotn at least.

>>342618116
Nope. Did find that if you press down, attack and jump at the same time you'll do a standing slide movement ending in a crouch. Sadly, like the slide, not cancellable.

>Anyone who donates their money away without knowing what they are getting into deserves to lose it if it happens.

>>
>>342608372
I tried it yesterday, and I don't understand what you are all so hyped about.
The enemy assets are OK, but everything else reeks of My First Unity Platformer Test. Anyone could put this together in a week or two (in a day with premade modules from the store), and these guys have spent a year on it.

That said, I'm not 100% dismissing it just yet, but colour me unimpressed.
On that note: Fuck, the colours and lighting is bad.
The textures also seem to be incredibly low resolution, and the game doesn't run very well on my laptop, despite the dated and minimalistic graphical fidelity.
>>
>>342622034
but he's right
>>
>>342622174
odds are you wont get half of that. Castlevania iga style has always been more about leveling and brutality. there was never really much effort into making a few finely tuned playstyles instead of just letting players run wild with whatever toy they could get their hands on, like weapons magics galore. Backdash probably doesn't translate into momentum because that could lead to sequence breaking. I'd like it to be a thing but thats probably how they'll see it. To be honest I think the game is mostly fine as it is mechanically, not to say I dont think more varied combos and the like wouldn't be an improvement, but I'd far rather them focus on interesting enemies and making the difficulty more, well, difficult, than giving the player more means to damage already weak enemies.

>>342622728
The demo was made for E3. They released it to backers only so the people who helped fund the game's development can gage the progress. It was never intended for a full scale release. As impressive as the demo is for how early it is in the dev cycle, it's still very much a work in progress and not ready for to be available to the mass public. People who backed already committed to buying the game. People who haven't backed obviously did not, so they don't want to release a rough demo to turn off prospective buyers. It's common fucking sense and not some stupid publicity stunt like that retard was claiming.
