the mechanics are explained poorly
the weapons and abilities you can use depend on your stats. you level up/gain exp by dealing damage to enemies. when you level up you are given points to increase your stats
if you see a weapon you want to use that requires a lot of accuracy and strength put points in accuracy and strength
if you see an ability you want that requires a lot of psi put points in that
you also have cybernetic enhancements (like cyber legs) that you can level up by paying brozouf
Also certain things can only be obtained by doing researches. these "researches" are dropped at random by enemies. It costs brozouf to actually do the research though. The hammer weapon, for example, can only be bought after completing the required research (and meeting the stat requirement of course). The final level of cybernetic enhancements can only be obtained by doing a specific research. Some research drops are very rare
