It's too bad the disgaea series' gameplay mechanics, balance, level design, story, characters, and humor are terrible. Aside from those issues the games seem decent.

I know it's not Disgaea, but Phantom Brave is going to be on Steam is it worth it?

Beryl best girl.

I wanted to like it, but summoned units only having a handful of turns plus having to grind like 6 different types of mana bars started to grate.
It's unique though.

I love you Laharl-chan
>>342579980
Oh darn, maybe I'll just get Disgaea 1 on PC then, did they ever finish the Mods for Pleinair n what not?

>literally Grind to Win: The Game
I still enjoyed D4 but I don't think I'm going to touch another Disgaea game ever again
>>342584297
you stopped right when the games introduced grind reducing mechanism. the cheat shop does wonder.

>mfw steam trying to charge me 16 shekels for a 13 year old game
Is NIS even working on big projects at the moment, all their recent activity seems to focus on remake and small stuff.
>>342584152
Actually I don't know why they just dropped the whole Unlosing Ranger thing. There's been plenty of cameos from ZHP, but no real sequel, and I've hear the spiritual succesors aren't that good.
Maybe I'll pick Guided Fate one day and see if it's any good.
I gotta admit, there are things I just don't get about Disgaea. I played 2 a bit, but didn't finish the story. Bought a vita and finished the story in 4.
Why do you go on playing the game? There is no challenge, just a grind. In fact, everything is a grind. Grind people in the item world, grind item world, grind levels grind ad nauseam.
The game was fun for a while. I like the look of it, I love it has dual audio, I just can't seem to understand the idea of an infinite grind fest. Does it unlock anything later on that changes the game?
It was fun to try and figure out item world puzzles for a while, but then it stopped being fun as well.
But a lot of you play all the games, several times, for thousands and thousands of hours.
I know there are ways to grind levels fast and get characters into the thousands (did it a bit) but that's still just grinding.
So yeah, I like Disgaea, I just don't understand the longevity you get from it.

>There is no challenge, just a grind.
isn't this all JRPGs?
>>342584652
Guided fate is good people are just upset it's no longer a sentai parody
>>342584726
>but I don't think I'm going to touch another Disgaea game ever again
Well, no? JRPGs often have a system to understand and get good at, and by understanding it, you can utilize specific mechanics in it to defeat various bosses.
The system of Disgaea is superfluous because it all comes down to the grind, whether or not the player intends it, it seems to me.
Like, if I play Bravely Default, yes I have to grind, but to defeat many of the bosses, I have to understand the mechanics of the jobs system, and create tactics, to even stay alive.
In Disgaea I need a higher level. I might need a strategy in how I grind to achieve it correctly, but the battle itself is just a grind, as far as I understood the game.

Most maps in either the story or post-game are actually challenging if you do them at a level and equipment similar to what the enemies have. If you wanna apply the "oh I'll just grind and steamroll everything", then the same goes for any JRPG.
The mechanics for easy grinding in Disgaea games are there because things in post-game get significantly stronger as you progress, specially if you get to LoC. And every game has at least 1 battle where you'll actually need to have really strong characters, plus a decent understanding of mechanics in battle. And said battle can also be modified so you need maxed out characters to even touch the boss. The goal of all the grinding is those end game battles.
Also personally, I like that you're never really forced to use unique characters, and the generics you can pretty much make them do whatever you want. You want a cute girl mage smashing things with a fuckhuge axe? It's perfectly doable. D5 even took things further by letting you recolor characters any way you like.
>>342584654
"just a grind"
kek have you even played that game cause if you grind aimlessly you are going nowhere.
>tfw always autistically rush rank 6 versions of all generics
>use the same character for all ranks of the same class, despite the massive bonuses of cross-rebirthing
Too autistic to get a life, not autistic enough to git gud.
have some Marona sketch i made million years ago.
Could re-draw it desu but i am too lazy

Who else is incredibly cool in here?
No news on a Disgaea 6 of 2 PC port right?
>>342575994
Does the PC port on steam work on WinXP by any chance?
