That is something that probably won't be worked on though, hit detection was just as spotty in the PS1 games it's based on
Devs are working on it but they are having trouble generating a good hit-detection system apart from just throwing hitboxes everywhere, which leads to assholes (me) finding jumps and skips everywhere

Final Boss is a great vertical shmup:

Rhythm Doctor is Rhythm Heaven inspired rhythm-game:

I also played some free game where you could only go left-right and jump. It had knight (sword in one direct), wizard (hurricane maigc) and i think rogue (two knifes in both directions) but i can't remember it's name

Looks extremely fun and right up my alley, but I'll never play it unless they fix that shit. How the fuck can you clip through the walls in a racing game? What is the punishment for fucking up? Racing games work on the premise of "how fast can I go without fucking up". That goes right out the fuckin window if you can just bank on the chance that you may or may not just clip through when you make a mistake.
>>
>>342568194
doom's shareware, brah
>>
>>342568194
Shareware is not freeware, you dope on a rope. Shareware games are full short games or single episodes of full games with a promise that the best is yet to come if you pay for the rest of the series/full version. Freeware games are not-for-profit games and reflect that zero budget in their quality.

OP is pooferware.

I'm not fully sure you are understanding
You can clip through buildings because they are scenery, do you think the track itself has no hitboxes? This isn't big rigs and you can't just fly off the track whenever you feel like it, the walls of the track do have hitboxes and the main goal of making these jumps in the first place is to find ways around them, usually involving heavy track undulations, which is what the devs are slowly patching out as I mentioned

Just tried this out. Plays like dogshit. Other vehicles are too big for the narrow ass track. The announcer says things too late. The handling feels so godawful. Hopefully it just takes some getting used to.

>>
http://tremulous.net/

Played the fuck out of this game 10 years ago. It's not quite as good as Natural Selection or Gloom but it's also different from both of those games in really important ways.
>>
Going to edit a list of freeware games I made for /v/ years ago, bumping to make sure the thread doesn't die in the meantime.

Warsow - http://www.warsow.net/
FPS. If you weren't good at Q3, you aren't going to be good at this, because it's almost the same game but with alt-fire and UT dodging/wall dodging piled on top of all of Q3's movement.

Xonotic - http://www.xonotic.org/
FPS. It's a fork of Nexuiz back when it used to be open-source and is another Q3-based game. Pretty fun if that's your thing.

Tremulous - http://tremulous.net
FPSRTS. It's based off of Q2's Gloom mod, which makes people think it's a Natural Selection clone. Humans vs aliens, you build a base using construction kits/grangers, fight each other, get credits/evolution points for kills that you can spend to buy new equipment/evolve into new alien forms and at side-wide breakpoints for each tier you rank up technology/evolution to gain access to new buildings and equipment/evolutions.

Savage - http://www.s2games.com/savage/
FPSRTS. It's more traditional in its approach to both than Tremulous in that one player on each side plays the game as an RTS and commands everyone/builds structures while the others play in FPS/TPS mode.

Savage 2 - http://savage2.com/en/main.php
FPSRTS. It's not that different from the first game.

Spring - http://springrts.com/
RTS engine with a fuckload of mods. If you've ever played Total Annihilation, this is based off of that, but there are mods for it that have nothing to do with TA whatsoever.

UFO: Alien Invasion - http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/News
TBS. Heavily X-COM inspired but it's not as good as X-COM for many, many reasons.

Battle for Wesnoth - http://wesnoth.org/
TBS. Don't let the RPG elements fool you, it's a wargame right to the core, so prepare your anus for the most brutal RNG ever.

Urban Terror - http://www.urbanterror.info/news/home/
FPS. It's a CS clone.
>>
>>342580126
Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - http://www.splashdamage.com/wolfet
Team-based FPS. Think TF2, but less cartoony, without hats, and with in-game levelups that grant you new skills that get reset at the end of the campaign.

Iji - http://www.remar.se/daniel/iji.php
Platformer, similar to Metroidvanias but with fixed levels. Unlike most games of its type, it actually has plot divergence based on what you do.

Armagetron Advanced - http://armagetronad.net/
Tron Lightcycles: The Game.

Star Control 2 - http://sc2.sourceforge.net/
Remember Mass Effect 1? This is the game that inspired it.

Nocturne in Yellow is a freeware game made off a GPL'd doom engine called GLOOME

Its rough around the edges, a proof of concept tech demo to show off the engine, made to get into a game jam competition, but i really enjoyed it, you have bosses at the end of every level, dialog, stamina and save points, its like if Castlevania was a Doom shooter, complete with bullshit platform puzzles and magic weapons. Its pretty impressive as far as standalone Doom mods go
>>
>>342584230
I didn't beat it but it's a fun game. Bosses are like bullet hells.
>>
>e3
>"in the spirit of the old doom being freeware, we are releasing a limited time DEMO for DOOM 4. Be grateful, you fucks :^] "

Since when did having demo for your game become something to brag about and compare to the days of freeware

reminder that shareware and abandonware are not freeware; if you're just telling people to pirate games, there's not really a point in having freeware threads

>>342585358
How is abandonware piracy? You can't really get the game otherwise and it's technically legal.
>>
>>342584473
I didnt mind the demo but the hype was a load of shit, just the first 10 minutes whereas shareware was a third of the game
>>
>>342585451
>and it's technically legal
It's not.
It's perfectly moral, but still technically illegal.
>>
>>342585441
How the fuck have I never heard of Unvanquished? Holy fuck thank you.
>>
>>342585451
it isn't piracy in a relevant way; nobody gets harmed from you downloading some old-ass out-of-print game that only resellers have. but it's not the same thing as freeware.

Confirmed for never played Playstation Wipeout games. You do not "clip through walls" The ship collides with the track edges, but not most scenery cosmetics if you manage to get enough air to hop over the track edges. If you really do cheat the engine excessively, it would reset you Mario Kart Lakitu style. The camera is meant to sway around. The tracks are meant to be narrow so it's not casual. Playstation Wipeout games also have wall scraping where if your wing tips touch the track walls, it doesn't register as a full wall collision. This wall scrape has physics where it might nudge you back into the track slightly and unintentionally give you a slight speed boost because the track edges are sometimes slanted 45 degrees.

the F2P version of Old republic isn't terrible. If you can overcome the blatant attempts to get you to buy a sub and its weird bastardization of the TOR lore, it's pretty fun.
