I spent $60 on this

me too
>>
about to start playing it for the first time

any tips?
>>
>>342539062
Look up a guide on where all the places of power are. Those extra skill points early game will give you a great head start. Also wear and find witcher gear.
>>
is this game any good, everytime i see threads about it nobody talks about anything else besides waifus
>>
>>342539595
Yes, the story and gameplay are very good, also the dlcs are some of the best story dlcs i have ever played.
>>
>>342539062
Gourmet is worth taking if you are one of those high difficulty players for the longevity it gives food regen while playing, if you are playing one of the first two difficulty don't bother.

pick either combat/signs/alchemy and prioritize that first.

the exp system is retarded and you will be op as fuck about mid teens regardless. if you are an open world player who only foes main story first, everything else second, you may not notice it. if you are an explore first, plot second you will despise how much exp this system screws you out of (even when you don't need it)

witcher sets > all

everything else is vendor trash

whirl is snoremode even ezier mode

alchemy best but enjoy the game randomly removing your buffs during a bunch of checkpoints.

Bloody baron best quest chain.

and that's all you 'need' to know, everything else you'll figure out.
>>
who else excited about Gwent Online?
>>
>>342539595
Yeh, game of the decade, maybe of the last decade as well, game is flawless, not even joking.
>>
>>342538279
I got it for free with new Nvidia card

How much should i complete an area before moving on? Im in Velen but its so fucking big and i want to finish this game in my lifetime. Are there any super worthwhile areas/quests to do here that arent the main quests?
?
>>
>>342539949
Not me, I could never really get into gwent.
>>

>>
>>342540138
how did you even enjoy Dodgeman3:Search for Daughterfu?
>>
>>342540074
Don't really worry too much about that stuff, just do things you want to. I would try to do the main quests when you're their recommended level and not over leveled though. I think one of the main flaws in the game's difficulty is that there's so much content to do that you can easily out level the current main quest and it makes it too easy, I think on deathmarch and at or slightly lower than req level everything is well balanced.
>>
>>342540412
I enjoyed it, I played the game 3 times.
>>
>>342539895
i regret getting whirl and now gotta dish out 1k to respect

hardly fuckin have room to use it
>>
>kill an enemy, get 1 xp
>explore around at level 5, find equipment with level req 40
>find out all the gear you find, LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE PIECE, is shit compared to witcher sets. why even bother putting those items in the game?

those 3 things really soured the whole game for me - what's the point of exploring new areas, finding dungeons etc if you never get get anything useable and don't even get xp so you can progress your character? the game tricks you into thinking this is an open world, but really you need to follow an extremely narrow path (with options in dialogue) to progress your character. why would you ever replay this game?

I played through it once at release because the writing and story is above average for a video game, but beyond that I REALLY don't understand all the praise.
>>
>>342540630
There is scaling now as of 1.21, so enemies are always at your level. It doesn't really make sense that you need 20 hits to kill a generic bandit because he's level 40, but if you want a better challenge you can do that

The exploration itsself

If that's not enough for you I understand, but for some people it's enjoyable.
I enjoy collecting all the gear and doing all the quests because they are interesting and it never feels like a chore to do.
Story accompanies every aspect of this game's exploration

No it just makes enemies who give no exp bs damage you like the high level ones.

Geralt's op because he just has too many good tools and most of the enemies 'only' bring damage to the table. it's better to treat the combat like you do say a batman game, the challenge is not in these guys are hard, but int hat you need to not look like a shitter and win with style.

>Oh, RPG mechanics! ...they're all worthless.
>Crafting, maybe? Lots of ingredients and recipes....that are all trash and not worth the time invested in making them.
>Sidequests maybe? Nah, they're all the same "Pick one of two options" with insulting rewards.

I've beaten the entire game, and I literally cannot fathom ever wanting to re-install it and play it again. Nothing about the game is interesting or compelling enough to make me want to even play the DLC, much less a NG+ or anything.

So...10/10 perfect best game ever made, I guess?

TW3 is not very good.
>>
>>342547936
i kinda get waht you're saying anon. your original posts pretty much describes my time with the meat of the game.

i want to explore, i really do, but the controls make it such a fucking chore sometimes. feels like whenever i run around geralt continues to fuckin jog 10 more feet. calling the horse and gettin on it is shit compared to mgs5 horse mounting.

also forced to fight whatever shit comes up to me because horse fear, and combat engaging locks you into a slow ass walk speed.

the only joy i get is doing sidequest/contracts but outleveling the quests make them pointless in a sense depending on if i feel its worth doing.

God fucking dammit, I wanna go to Poland and stab the motherfucker who thought that having some sort of movement momentum that makes it impossible to hit a precise spot to stand on unless you physically stop moving a few feet before it, as well as being UNABLE TO FUCKING TURN IN PLACE was a good idea. Fuck you, guy.

>and combat engaging locks you into a slow ass walk speed.
I think this is patched now, but yeah. Being on foot and not being able to just run past fights I don't want to be in because "Yeah, they're attacking you, so that means your sword is out and you only backstep" is retarded. Fuck that shit, I don't want to fight more Drowners, I just want to run past them. I want to go in, grab the loot, and walk away because I have no interest in this boring combat.
>>
Why do people say Witcher 1 combat is bad? First time playing and I enjoy it. Pretty strategic.

How long into the game did it take you before you

A.) Stopped looting anything

B.) Stopped selling anything

Bland and badly written/translated. There's a reason despite a comic adaptation and a tv series everyone knows the Witcher from the video game that doesn't follow the plot of the books. Read a summary to get the finer points.

http://www.pcgamer.com/why-i-love-the-witcher-3s-topography/

>CDPR’s artistry is in the small details. Even amid the gentle farmland of White Orchard there’s evidence of geological processes at work. Sheer, sandy banks overhang the river, fringes of grass suggesting ongoing erosion. Where many RPGs would dump a river in a convenient trough in the landscape, The Witcher 3’s ragged, crumbling riverbanks convince me that this stream was flowing eons before Geralt wandered by.

>When the heavens open, rain spatters every exposed surface. Decades-old games can simulate rain of course, but as the torrent develops, rivulets start to run down rock faces, explaining how their deep crevices developed. Even throwaway items like a quest-specific frying pan catches raindrops as you hand it to an NPC.

>Rocks, clifftops, tree roots and all the imperfections that make nature a pain in the arse each get their time to shine. They never feel like assets studding the landscape for variety’s sake, as boulders often do in Skyrim, for example. They are the landscape, born of imagined natural processes. I like to believe The Witcher’s NPCs considered the lay of the land before building their hovels. Roads, for example, typically take the easiest route up a hill, skirting ridges though a straight route would be quicker.

maybe you didn't notice this but your brain did

When the fuck does it get strategic? I'm into chapter 3 with 21 hours at this point and there is nothing strategic about it. Strong for slow or stationary enemies, Fast for evasive enemies, Group if you're surrounded. Various oils and potions make shit easier. This is almost mindless, a majority of the time you know what you're going up against and have or will soon have the journal entry for it. I'm enjoying the game but the combat is not something contributing to that enjoyment.

>>342549930
You don't need to craft ANYTHING in the game.

Every sword you pick up from an enemy, every chest you open, every piece of junk you sell, it all just gets added to the pile of "Money I have no use for because there's nothing to buy in the game".

So you end the game with like, 100k gold, and it's completely worthless.

i mean in terms of gettin concoctions or whatever the fuck they are called and the materials needed to upgrade witcher gear.

>>
>>342551694

>>
>>342555456
>That explains why you have money

Dude, I bought every recipe in the game. They're not worth crafting. Why would I spend money to craft potions I never need to use, gear that isn't an upgrade, or whatever the fuck else they didn't bother to spend time making worthwhile?

Money has no purpose in the game.

The last months before Witcher 3 was releasing, everyone started shitting on this game.

Fuck /v/, I fucking love this game. I can't think of a single quest outside of that flotsam stealth bullshit that didn't like. Even the harpy feather collecting was great because of the result afterwards.

I loved that the choice I made whether to go with Iorveth or Roche determined where I ended up and what would happen at the end of the game. The story was great.

The characters were great and well written, voice acting was superb.

I don't care if the combat was janky, it was passable and considering how good everything else is I don't care.
>>
>>342559174
It's a great game but I play something else when I need better fights. It's interactions, dialogue and characters are top tier.
>>
>>342558432
I don't know what you're implying.

That the game is somehow more fun when you waste time crafting junk you don't need?

That the game is somehow more fun when you load up on potions and stuff that make it even easier, when it's already pitiful?

That somehow funneling looted junk into the retarded crafting system is fun?

I cried a bit when she was reunited with Geralt and he realized she was alive. all their little bonding moments were so heartwarming and I actually felt proud of her at the end.

How do you kill arachnomorphs

>You need to intentionally use sub-optimal play methods because that makes it fun!

Sure, yeah, I believe you. I totally believe that somehow my experience would have been massively different had I somehow played the way you think is the "right" way. Also I didn't use Quen that much, I just rolled and sidestepped a lot.

the one you are targeting backs up until it hits a wall, that's literally ALL they do. drink anti poison potion and run at one until it backs up into a wall, or place yrden and die of boredom waitign for one to bother walking into it.

ootherwise go witht he old standard WhIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRL
>>
>>342539949
I thought it worked perfectly inside the game, but I doubt it can stand on its own without finding dudes to challenge, cards to find in secret places and doing cool quests in an open world
>>
>>342560175
It's not about being sub optimal
It's about not cheesing the game
Sapkowski wrote his crappy books as if sword fighting was ballet
So the devs took that and ran
So pretend to be a witcher, take some potions, and feel the rhythm of the fight and dance with it instead of hammering quen and roll
But the game actually becomes more fun if you read at least the 2 anthology books sapkowski wrote and get to know the characters and world a bit and get enveloped in the game instead of just treating it like any other shitty game

I just want you to know, all your arguments are complete shit.

You're saying "The game is great if you pretend it's great".
>>
>>342560126
let them spit web and catch you, then hold the block button, as you can still parry their attacks even when tangled

Axii and Yrden help as well
>>
>>342560692
it's fucking batman logic combat. your guy is broken as fuck and everything ends up a joke, so you either derive fun from trying to 'look' badass not taking damage, or you accept the enemies are idiots and power kill everything as fast as possible.
>>
>>342560692
You probably post those threads that say "why didn't frodo just fly the eagles to Mt doom"
It's hard for you to imagine putting out a little extra effort I bet because you're just damn lazy
>>
>>342560969
>Beat the game on the hardest difficulty
>"You need to put more effort in!"

Uh huh. This is what we call "bad apologetics".
>>
>>342561101
>Play easy game
>Beat it using the easiest least inventive method
You probably just used the cape to fly past all the levels in super mario world just because "it's the optimal way to play"
>>
>>342560861
or you can literally run at the one you locked on and it does nothing but back up until it hits a wall then you can like most bugs perma stunlock them them in fast attack.

Arachnamorphs may be the most pathetic enemy AI in the entire game.

How does this make you feel, anon?

assuming it's related to the stupid Empress ending indifferent, i went with witcher ending the only ending worth a damn.

>woman's entire life is her being a slave to a destiny, and people using her and telling her what she should do because they said so, yeah the best ending is totally where you let her dad further guilt obligations on her the SECOND she's even remotely free to choose her own path.

I could understand it if free temeria required empress Ciri to enact it, but there's NO need for her to be a fucking ruler ever.
>>
>>342561372
in enclosed areas, sure

but when fighting them in the open, unless you manage to make it back up against a tree or a rock or something, you have to bait them into getting closer

of course you can just simply run away, since there's no need to fight them

I do agree that they are shitty enemies though

>>342562093
You guys know northern wind bombs trivializes them, right?

I think samum also stuns them reliably
>>
>>342562381
My point is more to show they have one of the 'saddest' AI patterns in the game.

speaking of why do the Centipedes when coming up in a yrden trap almost always face opposite to you? are they always coming up this way or is this just some random annoyance bug?
>>
>>342562381
Sorry anon we are talking about no crafting runs so you can fuck right off with that.
