Yeah there pretty much are with talents you pick every 3 levels, at high level play you are always checking which talents the enemy picked. So really you don't like the streamlining from not having to buy items from the shop back at base.
2 major differences between HotS and LoL + DotA
#1. Different objectives per map, way more fun than the same old dragon or whatever in DotA
#2. Way faster paced with more team fighting and shorter games
All the other differences are just your preferences.

HotS is a great game, its bad rep comes from the fact that when you're just getting into it, it is very unimpressive. I played DotA and HoN for years and when I played HotS for the first time, I thought "wow this game is fucking boring garbage". But my friends kept dragging me along to play, so then I got into it and realized it is actually a very good game.

Mounts are a great feature and it fixes an acient problem of DotA: The map needs to have a certain size so that skills and all have the proper scale, but this generally leaves lanes far apart and makes for a very cagey and slow early game as heroes simply cannot travel fast between lanes (outside of TP) to gank and such.
HoN attempted to fix this by introducing a very, very cheap boots upgrade that greatly increase movement speed when not taking damage or not around other heroes, but otherwise are as fast as basic boots. This way, gankers and supports had a cheap alternative that allowed them to effectively roam. Now I've been out of the DotA loop for quite some time and maybe they have a similar item now, but HotS' mounts are basically this idea taken to the next level. It makes for a very fast, dynamic and "global" match experience because rarely is a teamfight too far away like in Dota where you're never gonna get there in time anyways, might as well brainafk farm creeps in lane.

Diablo 2 was worse than 3 at launch, and the expansion added things that today would be considered stuff that should have been in the base game, and cut content. It was also a big departure from the original and upset most of the fans of the first game.

Look at the remake for Abes Odyssey for example. The difference is night and day, even for the same game made by the same people. You just can't emulate that era of time, even if Blizzard re-made those games they wouldn't carry the same atmosphere or design philosophies. Even if they did it isn't guaranteed to work in today's market. The new Doom had content relevant to it's original era with secrets and collectibles in large open maps, but today's market doesn't find that as exciting as what CoD or Battlefield bring to the table with more cinematic gameplay.

Do you think the D3 fans will be this hyped and preorder as many for D4? Time will tell, but from what I am hearing, they have not be satisfying the fans to expectations.
