Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.
In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
>>342536142
Wrong. There's only that ancient, crappy, fan-made "pc conversion", which in reality is just an old emulator that auto-runs the SH1 ISO, with slapped-on GUI.

>>342536834
here's the recommended emulator settings for SH1. Works great on all the other games I've tried, giving fairly authentic yet sharper image, and fixing many graphical glitches.
The plugins used are:
-Pete's OpenGL 1.78 (yes, not 2.x)
-Eternal's SPU Engine for audio
works great on ePSXe and PCSX-R.
Alternatively, just use a software renderer for 1:1 PS1-like graphics.

I just bought half life 1 for 2 dollars just to play afraid of monster
I did the right thing, right /v/?
right?
SH1 scared the shit out of me as an 11 year old. That was the last time a game gave me nightmares.
As an adult, Dead Space and Dead Space 2 on hard were really freaky, in an "Event Horizon" kind of way. Especially when you encountered new enemy types that you didn't yet know how to deal with. It would scare the shit out of me as I played it, but it didn't stick with me after I quit like SH1 did as a kid.
What about the The Evil Within?

Good luck out there! Release order is the best order for SH games anyway, and replaying 'em is very recommended, thanks to multiple endings, unlockables, and tons of fine details you easily miss on first runs.
Remember to adjust down your in-game brightness settings, never play below Normal difficulties, and don't try to kill everything you see when you can just leg it / turn off the lamp and sneak around.
>>342538784
Same here. Infact, SH1 is still my favorite game in the series. It has the best pacing, town design, and perfect blend of terror and mindfuck.
Downloaded Resident Evil 7 demo but haven't played it yet. How is it?
I like playing horror games but I procrastinate when it comes to playing them. Especailly when you can get chased by something like in Dead by Daylight, it makes me all jumpy when the monster/killer gets close.
>>342539236

>>342539829
It's alright, very PT but that's kind of the whole point, capcom is pretty much picking up the mantle that konami dropped, and before you see people complaining about how there will be no combat or puzzles both of those have already been confirmed and there is a weapon in the demo
>>342540002
>who the fuck doesn't even own HL1 already?
already finished theps2 versionback then
Doom 3 is actually pretty scary because, while it's all jump scares, they're relentless. It's impossible to get used to them or guess when all of them are going to happen just because of the sheer number of them. That, plus the lighting, makes it a pretty spoopy game, even if it's not a good one.
>>342540098
No that's definitely ingame, of course with the obviously added in brightness. Shame Kojima downgraded the graphics on the game on purpose to make it seem like it was worked on by indie devs.

It's easy to say animation is bad today, but it started going downhill since the 60's, Popeye himself in the 50's and started to look like shit. Western animation today is full-blown ghettoized of course.

>>342540810
While I did not play Blood Curse (I dont have a PS3), it's pretty much the same story, because it's a remake with American characters. In gameplay terms, Forbidden Siren is way harder, because it's darker, and while you are sightjacking you can't move. Also you need to do manipulation shit in the past, which affects other levels, and I dont remember Blood Curse having this.

I have been jaded against being genuinely spooked by atmospheric horror ever since I went through puberty. Stuff like P.T. didn't scare me much at all.
That said dead space 1/2 are not boring, the story and the setting are both awesome and the monster design is great. Every time I killed one of those vicious fuckers I was compelled to just stomp on his corpse over and over saying shit like "Just die you disgusting fucking freak! Die die die!

>>342542697
>and action game with horror elements
It might as well be two different games, the action part is strictly action and the horror part is strictly horror, action horror refers to something like RE4
I can't remember the name of the game (it's not even a game, really), but I remember playing something giving me some serious spooks.
It's all pretty blurry, but I remember you're supposed to be a kid home alone, and shit starts to get spookier and spookier (Telephone calls, radio/TV emitting strange noises, etc...)
I *think* it was made in source engine. Also, I think the game ends in the backyard.
The entire experience gave me some kind of uneasy feeling. I think the only other game thay made me experience that kind of thing is MGS2, when you get all those creepy codec calls.
I really enjoy when the game builds up an atmosphere that will make you feel uneasy, where you can end up shitting your pants because you thought you saw something right behind the window, but you're not sure.
Fuck monsters, fuck jumpscares, fuck zombies. The player's mind is where spooky things should happen.

Condemned's graphics have aged so poorly, even Silent Hill 2 is scarier than it is now.
REmake is good, but not scary. Jump scares from the monsters don't count as being scary.
Stalker 2 is not scary.
>>342534193
Alien Isolation
Manhunt
System Shock 2
Shell Shock 2 Blood Trails
Horror is harder to do with games because it's all about pacing and atmosphere and a lot more can go wrong during gameplay that either erases tension or causes the pacing to become erratic.
I've found the best ways to do a horror game is to focus more on the ambience rather than a structured narrative that you're trying to force the player to follow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfmypNd59no
The first FNAF is easily one of my favorite, and one of the scariest horror games I've ever played.
The atmosphere is incredible, dark, gritty, and suspenseful, and the sound design is great.
You can hear things clashing around in the kitchen, even though you never see it, you can hear animatronic servos clacking and whirring faster than they were ever made to, and the distant sounds of glitched music echo through the building. The sound of that sting when you see an animatronic at your door is burned into my fucking memory.
The jumpscares aren't cheap either, as they are usually built up to with great suspense and dread, and only occur when met with death.
The rest of the series sucked pretty bad though. They all had shitty sound design and atmosphere comparatively. I kind of liked the 3rd game a little though.

I also really, really love STALKER. There are some jump scares here and there because of the fucking bloodsuckers, but other than that the game is pretty spoop free. My main gripe with STALKER is that a lot of the buildings are utterly empty. A more indepth crafting/scavenging system would have made exploring all those buildings much more fun.
STALKER would also benefit greatly from co-op, in my most humble opinion.

>>342548572
Ironically, it's the reverse.
You can almost always tell whether a show was animated in South Korea or Japan vs in an American studio based on the frame rate of the animation.
Now, some times it's pretty good, like with The Dark Knight Returns Parts 1 and 2 which was animated in South Korea, but they were given a film budget to animate that so it doesn't count. That only leaves the TV Shows, which always has under-sketched characters (lines going through one another, poorly detailed from a distance, and over-use of still frames) and a HORRID fucking frame rate.

>In order to complete the first season's 65 episodes, Warner Bros. outsourced the series to several different overseas animation houses. These studios included Spectrum Animation, Dong Yang Animation, Sunrise, Studio Junio, Blue Pencil, AKOM and TMS Entertainment.[20] TMS also animated the first season's opening theme sequence
>The Real Ghostbusters
Recording for the show took place in Los Angeles, California. The cast always recorded together, instead of separately.[13] After recording of the dialogue was completed, sound tapes, storyboards, backgrounds, and character designs were then shipped to KK C&D and similar studios in Tokyo, Japan (South Korean animators during the final two seasons) for animation and filming.
>Animaniacs
>Animation work on Animaniacs was farmed out to several different studios, both American and international, over the course of the show's production. The animation companies included Tokyo Movie Shinsha (now known as TMS Entertainment), StarToons,[11] Wang Film Productions, Freelance Animators New Zealand, and AKOM, and most Animaniacs episodes frequently had animation from different companies in each episode's respective segments.

Saddly that's it , i played trough outlast , amnesia ,etc (all those actual horror game)
not a single moment was scared
But this game man... it made me have my hand shacking at the end of the demo.
some people from argentina are trying to finish "the hum" as far as they show a few demos the game seems good.
Another one more or less scary will be "layers of fear" interesting story , those guys will be in charge of that new horror game in the future that as been shown in E3

Oh wow, a completely static reference background that's almost entirely un-animated. And yet the characters in the actual scene are still being rendered at around 4 frames a second. Jesus fucking Christ.

Eh, that is often the case because devs inevitabley allow the player to become overpowered. Not the case with Condemned, as you only occasionally find a gun, can carry zero extra ammo, and as soon as you run out of bullets you have to scramble to find another passable melee weapon because the guns break so fast when you hit hobos with them.
There is also no power climb, so when you start the game with a pipe, you're just as strong/weak as when you end the game with a pipe... Except for the school level, because the locker doors are OP as fuck.
I'm kind of on the other side. I get why not being able to fight in a game makes it more scary, but I usually just get bored of them. Every time something happens I know that 100% of the time my only option, and thus the only way to "win", is to just run away. Giving the option of fight or flight allows the player to make mistakes and live or die depending on their intelligence or skill. When a game kills you because of RNG or as hacky trial-and-error gameplay, it's not scary. It's just boring. If you die trying to fight or escape something, but you know you fucked up, there's a sense of actually *almost* making it, which increases the tension.
In my head, anyway.
Also, pretty sure the dog-through-the-window jump scare that made everyone shit their pants was in RE1.

>Several different U.S. and international studios animate The Simpsons. Throughout the run of the animated shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show, the animation was produced domestically at Klasky Csupo.[24] With the debut of the series, because of an increased workload, Fox subcontracted production to several international studios, located in South Korea.[24] These are AKOM,[72] Anivision,[73] Rough Draft Studios,[74] USAnimation,[75] and Toonzone Entertainment.[76] A subcontractor connection to the North Korean SEK Studio has been suspected but not confirmed.[77] The production staff at the U.S. animation studio, Film Roman, draws storyboards, designs new characters, backgrounds, props and draws character and background layouts, which in turn become animatics to be screened for the writers at Gracie Films for any changes to be made before the work is shipped overseas. The overseas studios then draw the inbetweens, ink and paint, and render the animation to tape before it is shipped back to the United States to be delivered to Fox three to four months later.[78]
For the first three seasons, Klasky Csupo animated The Simpsons in the United States. In 1992, the show's production company, Gracie Films, switched domestic production to Film Roman,[79] who continue to animate the show as of 2012.

>>342550053
No problem. It's a great fucking game, seriously. You have to beat the game 4 times to get the "true" ending, but enough stuff changes each playthrough to warrant the play. Also, there ARE ways to bitch out and avoid the sanity effects, but then you obviously miss all of the fun.
There's also exactly 1 jumpscare in the game, but the scariest parts are obviously when the game fucks with you and what you listed is the tip of the iceberg.
Just remember that the project lead is a lying sack of shit who has already tried two crowd funding scams. His ideas are great but he needs to be on an incredibly short leash.

Heavy Metal is great art style wise but it just feels weightless, like rough sketches that were only touched up slightly.

I forget the name of this "horror" game I'm trying to find. It alternates between sections where the protag is in his house, nightmare sequences, and actions sequences where he's like a secret agent or some shit but that's the most defining features I can remember.
they all pretty good
>>342549751
Disney switched over to CGI because it's easier to do and faster to produce. Disney films out-sold every single Eastern animated film even in their own markets, so I have no idea why you're trying to argue that as a point.

>>342551662
What's bad about it? Too many jumpscares? Cliche ending? I also remember there being a Pewdiepie reference/easter egg but at the time he wasn't that popular.
I honestly think the last time a game scared me was when I played White Day several years ago, and before that it was Fatal Frame 3 in high school. I want a game that gets me but I just can't find one anymore. I've tried so many and none of them do it.
>>342553368
It's painfully obvious which parts are just sectioned off and slid, and what are just atmospheric effects applied over-top of the actual animation, and it's really annoying.
The scene is utter dog shit. Use a scene from a well animated piece for fucking ONCE.

Learn what the fuck is good about animation, and then come talk to me you dirt-ass weeb.
"Don Graham really knew what he was teaching, and he "showed" you how to do something – he didn't just talk. He taught us things that were very important for animation. How to simplify our drawings – how to cut out all the unnecessary hen scratching amateurs have a habit of using. He showed us how to make a drawing look solid. He taught us about tension points – like a bent knee, and how the pant leg comes down from that knee and how important the wrinkles from it are to describe form. I learned a hell of a lot from him!"
DON GRAHAM - Donald W. "Don" Graham (1883–1976) was a Canadian-American fine artist and art instructor. An early graduate and later a professor at the Chouinard Art Institute (later merged into the California Institute of the Arts), Graham is best known as the head of the internal training and orientation classes at the Walt Disney Productions animation studio from 1932 to 1940
>>342555280
i really liked that movie, the only flaw was showing too much of the monster's face and making her sympathetic at the end
>>342555470
Yeah, rotoscoped animation looks like hot garbage. The dwarves are more technically impressive than Snow White herself.
Hell, even Tezuka Osamu test animations were and still are more impressive than it. Even fucking early 1990s OVAs are more technically impressive you dirty dog.
horror is all about context and atmosphere in my opinion
for example take >>342554909 (don't actually know what game its from)
scary enough in a horror game where you encounter monsters on a regular basis.
but imagine if that happened in a generic fps with no supernatural or horror elements involved,
with no context or explanation for it before or after happening,
wouldn't that be much more unsettling and memorable?
thats why i found the hellish abyss in fatal frame scary, cuz it was talked up the entire game. so when you finally encounter it it felt that much more menacing.
Is White Day a spooky game, /v/?
>>342556036

>The success of The Walt Disney Company's 1937 feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs profoundly influenced many Japanese animators. In the 1960s, manga artist and animator Osamu Tezuka adapted and simplified many Disney animation techniques to reduce costs and to limit the number of frames in productions. He intended this as a temporary measure to allow him to produce material on a tight schedule with inexperienced animation staff

SpongeBob Squarepants is more competently animated than any OVA currently released.
That's not even bait.
Japanese animators don't make shit, and are treated like shit, and cut so many corners with over-abuse of frame-sliding, cut-out animation, mouth-flaps, and still frames, I have no idea what you actually think is BETTER, other than, I guess, detail, which I've already provided ample evidence for, for American animation as well. The key difference is, American animation doesn't RELY on chicken scratch to be impressive, it relies on the same principles that they did in the 30's, which was expression, fluidity, and imagination.
Modern animation is in the gutter mostly due to the garbage writing, not the animation it self.
If you watch Steven Universe muted, it's more impressive than Princess Mononoke.
