I play all generations of consoles frequently.
I don't understand how it's different for other people, because there's a whole bunch of older games that they've probably missed out on. Makes them seem like the type of people that only play new games and sell their older consoles right when the new ones come out.
I use my last gen consoles daily. I use my PS3 as a media machine every day, and I often play PSN titles on it. I use my Wii as an emulation machine constantly for my retro backlog.
Gens before that, not as often, but still more than most, I'd wager. I keep a CRT TV around with a ton of old consoles and I use them for my retro backlog in the cases where I actually own the games.

I borrowed my brothers PS3 to play MGS4 and Ni No Kuni some time in mid 2011. My modded launch 360 red ringed around the same time. I only ever used my Wii to play Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario, probably haven't touched that thing since 2008?

PS2 I played about a 3 years ago, managed to find Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid 3 in a store, but a couple of months later bought the DMC HD collection and the MGS Legacy Collection when I finally decided to buy a PS3.
X-Box 360 would be about 4 years ago before it bricked itself and I just haven't been bothered to get it fixed.
I played some Dark Cloud 2 a couple weeks ago.
