>ITT: Obscure games you played a lot as a kid
looks like rayman
>>342516563
made by the same people
>>342515012
Holy shit this game. I played this shit so much. I have no idea how I completely forgot it existed. So much of my life I can't remember. So many games over the years I don't remember. Fuck.
Pretty sure my grandparents still have their N64 and this game lying around. I should stop by one of these days.
>>342516563
The game was actually used as a test to create a 3D Rayman.
>>342515012
I only remember getting the stick and after that I had no idea about how to keep going.
>>342515012
For some reason this box always stood out to me when I went to blockbuster in my youth.
Never played it, how was the gameplay?
>>342517285
It's kinda slow, but it's a decent puzzle/platformer honestly. If you can somehow get it running on an emulator, give it a shot.
>>342515012
I played the shit out of this game as a kid.
It was so weird with the brandname popcorn in it (i forget if it was Newmans Own or Orville) and the powerups made no sense.
Went back and finally beat it when I was a teenager and it felt so good. I can believe that this was a test for a 3D rayman
SUPER ED!YEAH
>>342515012
Played the fuck out of this when I as a kid
>>342515012
I remember this cover and know I've played it. That's all I know about it.
>>342517627
I played the hell out of this one. At first I was disappointed it wasn't a Goldeneye clone, but instead it had some pretty cool puzzles.
I can't be the only one
>>342517427
I think it was Orville, but also Crunch candy in some versions.
>>342517627
God damn, escaping the hospital gave me hell for weeks. Still a fantastic game.
Bomber penguin was best
I have no excuse.
Jazz Jackrabbit 2, if it counts.
I liked to load it up and just wander/swim around and come up with my own story. Yes, I was a faggot.
>In addition, the G4 show X-Play named Azurik: Rise of Perathia the third worst game for Xbox
>>342518761
I don't really think Jazz Jackrabbit counts as obscure.Spaz a best
>>342518553
King Rat is best nig
Idk if this counts as obscure, but this.
Ub funkeys was life back in the day.
I'd like to go back and play this one day. Confirm if I'm either still a drooling moron or was just a dumb kid 15 years ago.
One of the worst shit i ever played.
>>342517609
>>342515012
This shit was so fun. Sadly i didn't had the save pack.
Causing a nuclear war and killing off 40% of the population was always fun
>>342515012
>inb4 not obscure enough.
No one ever talks about this game. But it is the best game on Nintendo 64 hands down triple stamp it no eraseys.
Fuck off street fighter, THIS is the best fighting game.
Shit was addicting
>>342519139
I played the hell out of it as a kid. Loved it.
Played it again 4 years ago or so. Still pretty good, interesting quests and story, funny dialogues (good translation in my language), quite novel crafting system. Game is also quite long, especially compared to present titles.
Graphic is also pretty nice. Not pixeled faces, but the nature.
I recommend playing as Zax, solo, without companions. Slightly harder, but more fun.
You should try it.
i don't know if this is obscure
>>342519881
>Super Nintendo version
GET THAT SHIT OUTTA HEEEEEEERE
I don't know how obscure this is, since I've seen a fewFLEENS? YOU'RE NOT FLEENSthreads on /v/ before.
Can anyone help me out? I remember playing a game for either PlayStation 1 or 2. I barely remember anything besides it being a platformer, very obscure, the only part I remember was meant to be creepy I think. I thought it was pic related but I'm not sure. It was 3D like the Sly Cooper games so it might have been PS2. But I juts can't remember. I think you had to pick up gems too. I've been trying to figure out what it was for like, 5 years now kek
Comfy as FUCK
>>342518787
I played this game to the fucking end when I was 12 when the xbox came out. I don't think I ever needed a guide so many times in my life.
I really liked it because I have a boner for enormous adventure games where you gain really simple moves that let you go to previous inaccessible areas that were just outside your reach early on. I should boot it up again to see how shit it really is. I remember there was almost zero story exposition except for the first cutscene.
One of the hardest games I've ever played.
>>342520330
was it croc maybe?
Not sure if obscure. I never see anyone else mention this game anywhere though.
>>342520738
No not Croc, I played that many times though
>>342519115
Oh god so much money wasted on such a shit game. Still have a bunch of them in my closet though. I wonder if they're worth anything
>>342520821
40 winks maybe
Basically Worms but third person and with pigs instead of worms.
One of my favorite games back then.
>>342517627
I used to have that...and I think i actually liked it too. Cant remember though.
>>342520951
Not that either, I played that too kek
>>342520330
Gex, probably
>>342521106
I've seen gameplay, it's not that
>>342521084
maybe maximo
>>342517627
You gave me PTSD. Fuck this shitty game, does anyone remember the mission where you have to give the piano player sheet music to make some dude come downstairs?
>>342521319
Nope, played it
>>342515012
Holy fuck, i remember this
I thought it was interesting because it reminded me of Rayman, i never actually played it though
>>342521467
last guess is haven call of the king
I don't know if this is actually obscure, but this game was my fucking shit.
>>342519417
I loved this game as a kid, but it was so fucking slow on the 64. Took me months of weekends to beat the damn thing. Emulated it a few times and even at 300% speed it's still achingly slow at times.
>>342519417
thats not battle tanx global assult
>>342521654
That wasn't it either. Thanks for trying anon, appreciate it.
>>342520896
Looking back it was a big waste, but I played with them like action figures too, which made it all the more worth it.
I still like this game and it's been 15 god damn years.
>>342519768
I remember it being quite good and really liking the crafting system. I do remember it kicking my ass though, especially at those points where it was just the main character.
>>342520810
I remember renting it one weekend and enjoying it but I don't remember the actual game at all.
>>342515012
>>342515012
Somewhere in the boxes upon boxes of random shit I took from my parent's place when I moved out, I still have an old Blockbuster VHS promo tape with trailers for this, Rayman 2, and Rocket Robot on Wheels.
I'm pretty sure playing and enjoying this game kept me from going full weeb/autist. Also enjoyed the Monster Truck version.
Thank you based Rockstar.
>>342520330
I was thinking >>342521106 actually, damn. Gex: Enter the Gecko was a great game.
>>342522383
Holy shit, I vaguely remember playing this when I was three.
>>342522560
I feel like all 3 were decent platformers but couldn't hold a candle to the rare/nintendo ones.
I remember the races actually being pretty fun, even if the over world component & minigame puzzles were pure bullshit.
had better gameplay than spore
>>342521354
You mean the one where you scan the General's face and pretend to be him? That was actually my favorite mission.
>>342522779
FUCKKK
THE NOSTALGIAAA
>ctrl+f heroes of might and magic III
>0 results
>>342520278
It was commonly installed on a lot of computers for people in grade school.
For years I tried to remember this. Eventually found it through some Google-Fu.
>>342519001
>fighting the fox family with your rat army
Why was it so fucking hard?
>>342522813
>gameplay
Mashing A until your thumb and controller break doesn't count as gameplay anon.
Gotta have an honorary mention for this beaut. I had a twin bro and two nephews to play it with
>Carmaggedon TDR 2000
>>342523065
I still have that game.
I was so goddamn done with it when I got to the part with the hunter-killer aliens. My young mind was not prepared for that kind of fear and paranoia.
>>342522746
Yeah, none of them quite had the charm of Banjo Kazooie even though they were desperately trying to imitate it. I remember renting all three of them pretty frequently but never getting that far.
Also used to rent this bad boy constantly, no idea why.
>>342523065
This too. Been 20 years before I found the damn thing again.
I was so young then. Fuck.
>>342517627
This game is still fun as fuck, just replayed it on an emulator. Aiming is a total bitch in those last shooter levels though.
>>342521369
>all that deedee pussy
who /oldfag/ here?
>>342521739
It's extremely slow in some parts. I only bother on emulator as well now.
>>342515012
>>342517609
Oh man this was my first game ever
>>342520134
not obscure at all, but still a great game. My brothers and I played the shit out of the multiplayer. I remember that stupid stealth mission giving me hell for weeks as a kid. Good shit.
>>342518553
>Game glitched so getting 100% is impossible
>Have to cheat to see the real ending
>>342520668
>MICKEY IS FUCKING PISSED
First game I ever played.
It hasn't aged well, but at least I have a decent boomerang throw irl thanks to my autistic childhood obsession with it
>>342524351
Definitely not my first game but my friend and I tried to emulate it a lot outside in his backyard with cheap dollar store plastic boomerangs. We imagined we had ice rangs and stuff. Fun came to an end when his mom saw us light one of fire to really try and recreate fire rangs.
>>342517627
I want a rage eceleb video for this game.
Could not fucking figure out how to get past the goddamn party stage
>>342524351
I tried playing that on a gamecube recently and my god does it look like shit on an HD flatscreen.
>>342518787
I remember watching my neighbour play this. It looks fun and he really liked it but I also remember him wandering around trying to figure out what to do.
>>342522959
i dont think that series was obscure
>>342524351
I want to call you underage but I'm afraid that if I do I'll find out that 2002 was 20 years ago.
i remeber it being decent. but that was 15 years ago so who knows.
>>342525526
>everyone started playing vidya when they were three
That anon probably didn't play vidya until like age 10 or even later
>>342525526
>see all this Xbox/PS2 shit
>get ready to be retarded
>2002
>my mfw when
This game was garbage, but a special kind of garbage.
The title screen scared the shit out of me when I was younger, but the real horror was wondering around the field at night.
>>342525809
It's a dull pain.
>>342522058
I played that shit all the timeThat backstab when Yago was actually the demon of darkness and you run around handless for the first section of part two
Anyone ever play this shit??
>>342523162
I always ended up taking a dead fox and killing them all myself after my rats died.
Silicon Valley is such a genuinely fucking great game though. I played it recently and I was kind of expecting it to not live up to how I remembered it but it's just legitimately great.
I think what's really good about it is the way the objectives and puzzles always make sense and utilize the animal's abilities properly. It's sort of the opposite of what Conker's Bad Fur Day was mocking with the "context sensitive" button. Too many games have gameplay that amounts to nothing more than standing in the right place and pressing a button, or puzzles that are so abstract they make no sense being in the overworld. Silicon Valley contextualises all the puzzles as real problems you need to solve.
It's so unique and atmospheric too, I love eery moments like when you go near an area that just leads out to space and the music fades out. Place the fact that you can destroy the speakers in the level to get rid of the music completely. I could go on all day about this fucking game.
>>342515012
In hindsight it was probably a mistake to let me play Nocturne when I was so young, but I was always into horror and action, and what would become survival horror. Shame I literally cannot talk about it to anyone because they all go "do you mean SMT Nocturne?"
Tonic Trouble was fun, but the N64 controls were awful. The analog stick on the thing was awful to begin with, but I remember having to just jam the thing as far as it can go, just to casually walk.
>>342526075
I know. I thought the game would be over;you did what you set out to do, you had already explored the continent, no more quests and then wham, an entire new continent and you're actually only halfway.
Sneaking sections were shit, but man that game was great. I should replay it, abuse that OP-as-fuck minotaur summon.
>>342526242
If you haven't, play this.
>>342526334
But did you know that as FleceIf you trip and backstab the enemy it does like 1000+ damage and pretty much insta kills them
And those pages for the forbidden book were hard as shit to all find but you get that sweet second darkness summon when you do
also bonus credits scene
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zng5kRle4FA
>>342526605
Neat game.Only worth a pirate, wouldn't pay money for it
>>342526609
Yeah she did great damage when played correctly, but still; being forced to sneak around the tower and the... well, other larger tower were the low points of the game, ironically. Still love the game. Great fusion of medieval and oriental flavors.
>>342517025
Anon...they died 4 years agoand so did you
>>342515012
Holy fuck I remember beating this game. Wasn't the final boss basically just a puzzle that the villain kept fucking up? Took me ages to finish that horseshit.
It was fun as fuck
>>342523293
Nothin' quite like discovering the Wizard can two-shot the Red Dragon with Rock Shower.
>>342517746
How old are you?
Anyway Contact is good, not that obscure because it was a game produced (or had some involvement by) Suda 51.
I know tons of people probably played it.
But man I loved the fuck out of this game.
>>342528479
Games ending was such bullshit
>>342527732
I'm 22. By "kid" I meant like 12-13
>>342519082
same but on N64
>>342517627
The woman in the red dress in that first level always fucked my shit up as a kid.
Fuckin great game tho
>>342527938
>IGGYS RECKIN' BALLS!!
>PICK A MODE
>CHOOSE YOUR CHARACTER
>YEAH DUDE!!
Dat funky as fuck OST, dat weird creepy atmosphere, dat humor
Fuck I loved this game.
>>342529297
Yeah it was announced by like a 90s surfer dude, it was quite amusing
>>342528539
but the disco was cash money
>>342517369

It's on pc nigger
Could this be the best OST ever created?

DASH DASH DASHi was a weeb before i even knew it. the signs were always there.
>>342519205
Awful Killer Instinct clone.
>>342527938
I rented this once and then I think I repressed the memory until I saw it in one of these threads.
>>342520247
SNES version has GOAT music anon.
>>342515012
Never managed to get into this while replaying Rayman 2 a lot.
>>342523227
Pokemon with fairies. Wasn't bad. Especially that it was like Quake during battles.
Weird ass pinball game
Exile 1-3, before the Avernum remakes. One of the most fun RPGs I played as a kid. Exile 3 was my favorite of the bunch.
I liked this game as a kid.
>>342532827
got ignored at the time as one of the many games in the overflowing "pinball + RTS but controlled by voice" genre.
Any of you weaboos understand this?
i kind of miss this now
>>342526187
It really was a game unlike any other in terms of tone and atmosphere.
Shame it won't get re-released.
>>342535481
Aren't those just schematics for how the FLUDD works?
>>342528479
Not really obscure at all.
For a time it was pretty big and was used as the display game at a lot of stores.
>>342531201
this was such a weird ass game. I remember the space level and all the fat slobs you had to avoid. This was the first thing I thought when I saw wall-e
>>342515012
Played this when i was like 5 kek
It's swedish though
>>342523065
Fantastic game, used to rent it all the time. Does it emulate well? I heard this was made by same people that went on to do gta 3, correct?
>>342532827
I remember this. Didn't the game also include a microphone with which you could voice command your troops?
Seemed pretty cool but never got around to playing it.
>>342527938
fuck I completely forgot this game, use to love it as a kid
>>342537041
RIGGITY ROCK TIME TO ROCK WITH THE BUCK BUMBLE
RIGGY RIGGY ROCK. RIGGY RIGGY ROCK>
Everyone knows Rampage, but I can't imagine many people are too familiar with the GBC port of it. I played quite a bit of this.
>>342523491
You just brought back a swarm of memories of my grandfather, and playing this because he let me take over his computer when I visited. Fuck man, these are bittersweet feels.
>>342519115
I have a funny story about these things
>be around 10 or 11 (i cant remember)
>find this thing at target and beg my mom to buy it till she caves
>Hyped as fuck to play this thing for some reason
>plug in the big white guy and place the edgy skull guy on top
>Install the game onto my dads computer
>click the ubfunkey icon
>links me to futa porn
>I had no Idea what this was and asked my dad for help
>my dad flips out and grounds me for a month
....fuck these things man
>>342515012
Thanks for beta testing this
