You may ONLY post in this thread if you have defeated at least one(1) game in the Ys series on nightmare difficulty.

Casual as fuck

Ys I only has a single difficulty though.

>tfw Ys origin w. toal, nightmare difficulty
>tfw scrape my way to the top of the tower
>tfw Dalles wipes the floor with me repeatedly
>tfw finally get good, beat him after like 30 tries
>tfw Darm is an absolute pushover, manage to kill him after 3 attempts
>tfw game crashes mid-final cutscene
>tfw no clear save for all three characters
>tfw no unlocked arena and toal boss rush
>tfw deciding to try again
>tfw get both first try
>tfw game crashes yet again
It's not a very good feel
and I don't wanna sit through 5 minutes of cutscenes only for it to happen again

To this day I still can't beat Galbalan on Inferno mode. That fucker's vortex bullets and black hole always mess up the ping pong phase for me.

I beat Celceta on nightmare.

It killed the series for me.
>>
>>342508609
I could only get him on nightmare by getting as close as possible and spamming attack during his downtimes(of which there aren't many).
>>342508806
Ys 7 and onward don't count, anon
>>
>>342508806
>Celceta nightmare
>that one plant sidequest monster that also inflict poison or stun
Literally took me 10 minutes standing in place flash guarding for critical hits.
>>
I beat Ys 1 on Hard, and then the rest of the series on Hard.
Do I qualify for an exception?
>>
>>342510273
It's ok. No one should be subjected to Nightmare Vaguilion
>>
Definitive series ranking coming through

Oath in Felghana > Origins > Seven > Memories of Celceta > Ark of Napishtim > II > I > Kefin, Lost Kingdom of Sand
>>
>>342510715
Honestly, I played like an hour of Seven and it felt just miserable. Instead of giving you unique items and making each of them feel good like a Zelda game, it bombarded you with tons of useless trash.
Same thing happened with Onimusha 4 at the time. They tried to go the more traditional RPG route, and as an action game, the end result suffered.
>>
>>342510997
exactly. Way too much upgrades and gear margninalizes the value of each item progression. Just give us Felghana style upgrade and proceed with killing bosses

They tried to make items more relevant in Celceta again by giving you a separate bag for the Zelda-like stuff, but the combat was still pretty bad with no jumping and it being too heavily reliant on flash guard/dodge.
>>
>>342512621
I was surprised that you could still cheese this guy, even on nightmare.
If you're willing to waste a revival talisman on him, you can boost> go apeshit> fight normally for a while> boost and go apeshit again, and in total take like 60% of his HP then and there, with you still being close to max HP.
You have to spend like 20 minutes in the last dungeon grinding for the cash to buy another talisman, but that's less time than it would take to really get good at chester 2. The downside is that it makes you feel like a scrub.
>>
>>342512621
oh he's not that bad. Chester 1 with his sudden dash always is worse since you don't have access to earth charge.
>>
>>342512621
Hype as fuck
>>
>>342507590
Fuck you nigger i never beat any on nightmare nor will i subject myself to anything of that level.
>>
I love OiF and Origins but couldn't get into Celceta. First case where an updated engine ruins everything. No jump no buy.
>>
>>342514210
Good thing Ys 8 has jumping.
>>
>>342510997
It's way different than the Felghana style games, but it's still solid. It has one of the best stories in the series and has some excellent boss fights. The music is also kickass per usual.

It's definitely a change of pace, but I didn't have a problem with it and found it to be a really solid ARPG.
>>
>>342514210
I'd recommend trying Seven and taking it for what it is. The party system is never gonna be as good as the Felghana system, but it's not bad. Plus, Seven still has a lot of great stuff going for it outside of the gameplay so it eases the transition nicely whereas Celcelta is really hit and miss.

I beat Ys vs Sora no Kiseki on Nightmare mode
>>
The only one I've ever played is Seven. It was pretty okay, nothing great, but not terrible either. Which ones are the ones worth playing, or is this the best one?
>>
Full 100% completion for both Origin and Felghana.

Dalles as Yunica is the hardest boss and just worst character overall. Hugo is baby mode. Toal is sort of hard until you get fire then it's easy.

Chester's second fight is the hardest boss of Felghana. Fuck that cunt.
>>
>>342516746
Oath in Felghana is the best. It's on PC, and on PSP with some extras and shitty voice acting but shittier performance. Then if you want more of Oath's gameplay, there's also Origins and Ark of Napishtim on PC. I never really liked the systems in 7 and Celceta, and I'm not really looking forward to 8 either but maybe they'll suprise me.
>>
>>342507590
Does the megadrive wanderers from ys count?
>>
>>342512621
I'm still stuck on him on Hard.
>>
I've beaten all but I&II on whatever their highest difficulty is.

I just really fucking hate the gameplay in the first two.
>>
>>342518006

This method >>342513741 works even better on hard. You can almost cheese the whole fight by bursting twice and attacking him without stopping. You don't even have to use up a talisman.
>>
>>342518080
Christ, the bump system is a pain in the ass. Doesn't help at all with the damn bat boss either.

Beat I, II and origins on nightmare but stopped oath eventually, remember having serious trouble with it.

Most memorable memory of this time was the fucking bat boss in II. That fucking .5 ms window to run to it and deal damage before he turns back in rape-cloud form, jesus christ.

Favorite boss, probably the caterpillar thing in origins, lots of fun fighting it.

According to steam I sunk about 150 hours in this, it felt like more. I remember it all very fondly.

>start on hard, get to the fire area, get insanely frustrated, restart on normal and beat it
>Play Ys Origins on hard, have a hard time but never get frustrated, beat it and enjoy it to death
>Go back to Oath in Felghana, get frustrated before even reaching the fire area

Fuck me, OiF is brutal. Something about it just hits a nerve in me, maybe it was just when I was playing it but goddamn. Fucking loved Origins though, that game was pretty much perfect. Also I was really loving Ark of Napishtim until I got to that cunty wall boss.

>Foliage Ocean of Celceta localized to Memories of Celceta
>People call it by the localized name
Foliage Ocean at least doesn't glorify the cliche of a amnesiac protagonist
>>
>>342523172
The fire area in Oath in Fallujah is fucking insane. Those birds kill you in like 4 hits on nightmare and they're very hard to avoid, and both of the area's bosses are annoying bullshit flying motherfucks.
It does let up after that area though, and it's my personal favorite. Chester 2 and the final boss are easily the best fights in the series.
>>
Only time in my life I cried at a video game is when that Epona girl turns to stone in your arms in Origin.

No idea why I got so invested.
>>
I think I got stuck in the snow area in OiF, despite being an Origin veteran, is that possible? Is it before or after this infamous fire area? It felt like I had to grind a good 10 levels to even start doing damage.
>>
>>342523675
Chester 2 on normal was a damn good challenge, I really should get back to beating that game on hard.
>>
How much harder is Oath on Inferno?

I played Ys I & II and I think the game was well balanced, that's not the case for the others? Or it's just a "I'm a true gamer" thing like a soulfag?
>>
>>342524562
Inferno is literally just Nightmare, but you take 2x damage
>>
>>342507590
Done all the PC ones. Origin is my favorite, Toal's gameplay is so goddamn smooth.
>>
>>342524710
That honestly doesn't sound very fun.
>>
>>342525056
Yunica a best
>>
>>342525056
Yeah, I fucking loved Origin. Yuncia had exceedingly well written dialog and the whole game felt fair and solid.

>>342524593
They're balanced on normal, it's just the higher difficulties get fucking insane. Even normal in most Ys games is a solid challenge.
>>
Origin isn't that great 2bh. It's less challenging than OiF with less enemy variety. It features three playable characters but it ends up being a chore since they all share the same areas. Speaking of areas, they are all exceedingly bland and very samey. Darm Tower in Ys II was much better designed.
Origin has inferior gameplay to OiF and lacks Ys VI's rich environments, items and story. It's still a very good game but I feel that it is the weakest of the three Ys VI engine games.
>>
I absolutely love how Hugo doesn't give any shit.
