What are the differences /v/? I just installed Deus Ex on my PC but it doesn't fucking work (DeusEx.exe has stopped working...) And I'm thinking on emulating the PS2 version. But I don't know if it's the same game. Help me please /v/

Am I the only one that think this game is crap?

Seriously, the only good thing on it, is beat the fuck up from starving child orphans with the eletrical stick.
>>
>>342483879
It's really dated.
>>
PS2 levels are smaller and with more loading times. The graphics are improved a bit in the PS2 version, but the game's going to look like shit either way.
>>
>>342483879
>>342483942
why even bother entering a thread of a game you don't like?

>>342483542
did you pirate it? if so, try from another source
if you bought it on Steam, verify game cache
>>
>>342483879
I was smarter when I was 15.
>>
>>342483542
Don't bother with the PS2 version senpai, its watered down and stripped back
>>342483879
It wouldn't be a /v/ thread without someone jumping in and giving his opinion that nobody asked for right?
>>
>>342483987
The intro on the ps2 is better. More mysterious
>>
>>342483542
Massively stripped down levels (like 1/4 of their original size)
Censored intro
Censored some dialogue
Horrible loading times

Learn to fucking download Steam version you subhuman trash
>>
>>342483879
Not crap, just overrated. It surely was fucking great when it came out though.

>>342484041
>wahhh please join my hivemind! d-don't disagree with me!

have you tried the kentie replacement executable?
>>
>>342483542
>pc version didn't work
>hurr durr emulate ps2 version

How the fuck is that a logical solution?
>>
>>342484427
He's a consoletard in case you haven't realized
>>
The major difference is level design, which had to be changed due to PS2 memory limits. You get smaller sections and more loading times in between.

Graphics are typical PS2 port deal - better geometry, but worse textures.

Obviously the UI was changed to accomodate for controllers, but it doesn't really affect the meat of the game. The only meaningful change here is the removal of locational damage.

Overall, it's a decent port and probably the best they could do under the circumstances. It's worse than the original, but by no means butchered.
>>
>>342483542
PS2 version is complete and utter garbage.
Try harder to get the PC version to work, gameĀ“s a must-play.
Try pcgamingwiki or Steam community guides. And get the HD patch
>>
>>342484312
if you at least brought any points to be discussed that'd be something, but you're just whining, so why do you even bother posting?
>>
>>342483542

It is significantly cut down. Level design is altered with load times around each corner. Unified health, clumsy Dualshock controls ,etc. make it a lesser experience.
>>
>>342483542
Just pirate the GOG version. Should work like a charm.
>>
Gog version is sure to work, but its public torrents seem dead. Want a mega?
>>
game is like 1 euro on steam when its on discount, who the fuck doesn't have 1 euro
>>
>>342485040
sure thing, please. gog versions are usually the best.
>>
>>342484325
Intro of the original literally shows you page and company. You instantly know they are villians
>>
>>342483542
the levels are divided into smaller parts, so the PS2's RAM can handle it
you also have a completely OP aimassist and a weird-but-working control scheme
other than that it's the complete game

From wikipedia because I'm lazy to write it out

>A PlayStation 2 port of the game, renamed Deus Ex: The Conspiracy (although kept as Deus Ex in Europe) was released on March 26, 2002. Along with pre-rendered introductory and ending cinematics that replaced the original versions, it features a simplified interface with optional auto aim and motion captured character models. There are many minor changes in level design, some for the purpose of balancing gameplay, but most to accommodate loading transition areas, due to the memory limitations of the PlayStation 2.

Its actually worse than that makes it out to be. A lot of shit had to be stripped back to accommodate the memory limitations of a PS2. The PS2 only had 32mbs of RAM compared to the 256/512mb range you would seen on a gaming PC in the year 2000.

Warren Spector even brought it up at the PC conference in E3 saying it was an after thought and they only made it because the higher ups made them port it. If it was up to Warren it would have never seen a release outside of PC.

why is the same thing happening with Zero Time Dilemma (comparing the 3DS version with the PC version)?

The PS2 has some sweet CGI for a PS2 game but the levels are smaller and split between loading screens.
The box design is better. Looks more menacing with the dark navy grid pattern
>>
>>342486254
thanks, fampai. you're the best.
>>
>>342486213

PS2 hardware sucked at anything which wasn't pushing polygons.
>>
>>342483542
there was a thread that covered almost every difference on the offtopic productions forum but the images in that thread died years ago

>>342485872
is good enough

This game holds up pretty well. It's one of the best looking games from that era. the gameplay is also amazing even for today standards.

This is one of those sentences that only makes sense if you read it in a really strong Slavic accent.
>>
If I recall correctly, the PS2 version is casualized to death. The inventory was simplified and they replaced the region-specific health system with a conventional, single health bar.
>>
>>342490351
makes sense to pander to console users, imo
>>
>>342492102
>>342490351
fairly certain it was like that because of the ps2's system limitations
>>
>>342483879
Whenever i hear this i just assume you played it wrong; i bet you always went straight to the main objective without bothering with the exploration aspect or having fun with the many options you have. Of course you were bored since that's a boring way to play
>>
>>342483542
The PS2 version is complete shit, don't play it.

world of difference, don't play the port.
>>342483879
>>342483942
it still plays fine, has amazing level design, tons of secrets, and a decent story. all you need to do is spend two minutes rebinding keys.
>>
>>342483879
I played it last year and it's probably one of the best games I've played in terms of writing.

Its the first modern real time game I've played that presented a story in a way that was much better than say presenting it as a book or movie.

Most games these days want to emulate books or films. Deus ex knew it was a game and they took full advantage of that.
