Two big JRPGs out in the next five or so days, and I can only get one.
Which one is best? TMS looks fun but the idolshit really turns me off. I love both SMT and FE so it should be a slam dunk for me on paper, but I can't say it really evokes much of those games to me.
SOV also looks really fun, good combat and awesome seamless transitions between battles/cutscenes/field/etc. It seems like the game/writing might have a lot less personality though?

Star Ocean is a much more tradditional JRPG, Mirage Sessions seems like a vare bare bones rpg but makes up for it in the fun/weird stuff and putting it's own spin on the genre.
I will wait for user reviews before I pirate mirage sessions and Ill just pirate SO5 the day it reaches PC because people have said it's pretty good.

The character models look great. The lighting might be too realistic for some of them but overall it still looks great. Everything about it looks like it should be at least a decent game.
#FE is the biggest disappointment of the last 5 years for me. It's almost as bad as when DmC was announced, that is to say the continued antics are nowhere near as bad as what mad DmC even worse day by day, but the initial shock is similar.

You can adjust animation speed in settings and you can learn skills that change the length of sessions, they're not always "a minute long". Also, enemies can session YOU and bosses even summon enemies that cover their weapon triangle weakness just so they can session you.

They usually got great combat mechanics and music to go with them, but they repeatably fuck things up with unlikable and overbearing animieshit cliched characters and what could be a unique setting glossed over by playing it safe in traditional setting.

I don't think it was ever really that good. The highlight is SO2 (good concept, bad delivery) and SO3 (good delivery of a bad concept), then SO4 fucked everything up, and 5 is every further removed from 3 that its more or less SO4-2.
All they had to do was take 3, polish the battle system, balance the crafting, and make a good story.
They didn't manage ANY of that with 4/5 and I'm not convinced TriAce knew what made SO2/3 good in the first place.

I actually canned my order of Star Ocean yesterday. I was ready to give it a shot but literally everyone kept saying it would be a serious mistake and last time I ignored warnings I ended up with a copy of Sticker Star
SOV senpai. Great visuals, fast paced action jrpg gameplay and not full of censoring. SOV is the superior game if you're going to buy it.
Plus, you can just download #FE soon uncensored for free anyway. So why would you spend your shekels on that?

I hope you're kidding. The environments are horribly dull and lifeless compared to both Xenoblade games and the landscapes are so generic I'm pretty sure I could walk outside and see something similar. The textures are also only a fraction better in SOV which is inexcusable on the PS4.
