His entire life had been served on a silver platter while Nate had to work for everything. He wanted the glory that Nate had gotten after the previous games.
It's a good character motivation but Nate being made famous by his adventures is practically never foreshadowed so it falls a little flat.

His name was RAFE. That's an entire lifetime of problems right there.
He didn't really do anything wrong. Nathan and Sam were thieves and Sam was a huge liar; Rafe didn't really even break the law
Nathan should've conceded the race once he heard the truth about Sam, especially the part where Sam backstabbed Rafe. It boggles me how the audience is supposed to root for the main characters anymore after that part
