It looks pretty good. I'm impressed at how far along it is considering it doesn't come out for another 9 months.

The one thing I'd like to see improved is the stage lighting. The characters and assets look great, but they're stuck in this flat-looking environment that looks like a level being previewed in hammer.

Imagine what it could look like if they had all the scenery cast real shadows and jacked up the contrast.

Controls feel really tight, plays exactly like you'd expect of a castlevania
Combat is basic but but fast and there is a good rhythm to fighting stuff, also you can cancel a backdash into an attack which is neat
The character designs are great and so are the models
The level itself was a bit bland looking but was designed pretty well. Felt like an OoE level

They seem to have all the basics down, now it really depends on how well the castle is designed and how well you flow through it doing all your exploring

Just remember to give that feedback to them, they do seem to actually listen to their backers. Hell, everyone here should do that if they got any complaints or things they want to see improved. Now maybe I'm being perfectionistic here but I'd like to see more kick variations on the ground as well as in midair.
Also visual feedback if you swing your weapon against solid walls and/or try to push against them.
Visualized bodyarmor on the playermodel as well as on the avatar in the menu would be pretty baller too.

But that is not the only reason probably. Games takes plenty of time to complete and yet almost every company wait until it's 1-2 years away before revealing a game. The reason for this is because first impression are incredibly important, so most does not want to risk making a bad impression by letting consumers try out early builds.

Now, the E3 Demo was pretty solid but I imagine they also don't want people to think "This is what the end product will be like".

I'm not completely blown away from the demo either, but it looks pretty solid for what it is - maybe also because I actually liked SotN and the Sorrow games, unlike you seem to.

We'll see how it works out in the future.

One secret is found early in the demo by jumping up on a broken mast, gets you the leather armour and there's also a destructible wall here.

Equipment has a visual change on Miriam except for body equipment which changes nothing visually.

There seems to be other places you can go but I am not sure if you can reach them in the demo or if you need a powerup of sort that you can get in the finished product. Mainly referring to the places that are too high up for you to jump up to.

I provided argumentation that shows:
1. Lower difficulty and more approachable gameplay attracted more players to the series and secured the future for shittons of 2D Castlevanias
2. SOTN compensated this difficulty with absolutely free and non-linear exploration and amount of content. Literally NO 2D game EVER had so much content to explore.

Glyphs are used for basic attacks in OoE.

In Sorrow games, Souls are clearly distinct from standard weapons and attacks.

So yes, the Shards system is way closer to Souls than Glyphs.

I just played the demo, and this was exactly what I signed up for.
I did honestly not expect them to deliver a straight Castlevania game, but they just did it. Nothing out of the ordinary, and it perfectly matches up with what I had in mind when I threw some money at them.

I've always enjoyed playing Metroidvania games for fun, but in the manner of just bruteforcing the bosses and enemies and healing when needed. Is there a "higher level" of play for these games? I mean the stuff you see in other action games like abusing particular game mechanics.
