The craziest levels were the ones where you just had no guns outright, like after you got captured by the natives. Had to make do of the spears, bait and any fire you could fine. It was great.

Part of the trouble comes from how easy the games are. Because the young age of the target audience keeps the puzzles and combat from being complex, it's difficult for any new mechanic to actually feel interesting. I can't really fault them for keeping the games simple since they're largely based on co-op among small kids, which equals the lowest skill level possible, but I wish they'd find something to improve that'd make the games feel truly interesting and different again.
The LOTR games are probably the best of their recent stuff. There's much more side content, the characters are varied, and it's fun to go exploring around Middle-Earth.

I never bothered with the LOTR or Hobbit ones, just because I havent got mich interest in the films or books, but I've heard theyre pretty good. One of my problems with the recent Lego games is also that they boast about having hundreds of playable characters, but only 20 or so of them actually feel different from one another.
I can only hope for something to freshen the franchise up again, because it's one that I have had a fondness for since I was young.

Honestly, not much has changed since the Lego Indy game. Gameplay is still almost exactly the same, but a lot of the newer ones have open world hubs and 100+ characters.
