I don't really like when people think like this but it's basically true.
Speedrunning was only interesting and entertaining for about 18 months (in terms of memes and not the inherent entertainment value of the gameplay).
AGDQ 2013, SGDQ 2013 and most of AGDQ 2014 were the only good things to come out of this garbage.
AGDQ 2013 was a special, beautiful event and none of these are ever going to recapture that magic.

The event got too big for its own good, and too many people wanted to be in the room as runs were being done.
You can't really reasonably expect 100+ people to be in tiny room to watch small television, so they had to move to bigger one and get projector in. And because of that projector, you can't have the place too light, which resulted in current darker room.
It's a shame, the light room was really great, and you could always make the crowd out. Now they also have the camera zoomed way back, so you can only barely make out the couch crew.
