It's pretty bad, imo. I didn't mind the combat in 1, but it drove me nuts in 2. They tried to improve it, but in doing changed the flow, so that you started to expect things (mechanically/design) that weren't there and it frustrates you. The story isn't really as interesting. The frame rate is much worse, one of the few games to ever make me nauseous. Mission design and replay design is atrocious. Characters/concepts don't really feel fleshed out, many characters only have a few lines of introduction before they're jettisoned from the plot.

The official website for dod3 has short stories for the intoners and disciples. Some of the dlc expands on the intoners well, but they're fucking expensive. The game itself is cheaper than the dlc. There's a prequel manga where the intoners are lolis.

Did we know how about the other sisters? Still, considering that the sisters are based on the girls Zero's encountered in her past life, which is more than likely also the girls she killed, Zero has basically robbed the world of some fine waifus. That's wrong yo.

I think I read somewhere in Rekka(the woman that translate basically all the major supplement materials for Taro's works) that Five is based on a nun Zero killed. And the sisters' personalities are all based on some part of Zero's personality instead of the girls they took their appearance' from. Of course, because how could she know most of those girls' personalities anyway?
BTW, the supplement materials really shed a new light on DoD3's story on a whole new light. It's really just as depressing and oppressive as DoD1, it's just you have some waifus shoved into your face because Taro got hooked on Madoka a bit.

Thats why I kinda consider it the least of all the games, DoD1 was a complete package with no bullshit and Nier at least told a complete story in the game that didnt leave half of its cast as unknowns.

We don't, but I do feel like we should get one since we have a shitload of side materials. To start you just play the games in release order, skip Drakengard 2 because Taro wasn't involved with it, and read Grimoire Nier after you finish NieR.
If you can't get into Drakengard 1, feel free to skip it and play NieR. There's an LP if that's your thing but I strongly suggest you to play it.

The highlights of DoD2 are Urick, Caim, and Legna. Also the final boss was pretty great mainly because a remix of Growing Wings carried it. Also I appreciate this recent influx of DoD and NieR thread.

Sort of, yeah. I always try to read them carefully as to differentiate between her take on things and her simply stating things as a matter-of-factly. We probably could have better, but at the very least it's currently the best we, or at least I can get of from all those side materials that otherwise I probably won't ever realized the existence of.
Her translations still provide a lot of interesting tidbits and insights on things though.
