I've been missing in action lately. Just been trying to build up my Legendia collection still. However, I don't see many tales threads these days or at the very least I'm not stumbling across them.
After Zestiria left a bad taste in my mouth, I was a little hesitant on Berseria, but thankfully the battle system (camera issues) seem to have been ironed out so I'm a little more optimistic.

Abyss was on PS2, should be easy to emulate and it's a very good game, tough the graphics are pretty poor due to its age.
Eternia/Destiny II on PS1 (or PSP) is also pretty good, it's a 2D game but very fun. The dub is atrocious tough, I think there's an undub floating around.
Or if you feel like replaying Symphonia, it's actually on Steam as a port with additional content.
Berseria seems decent so far, as in it looks like they've actually managed to finish the game for once.

Weird I wasn't too thrilled by the combat. I actually really despised the iron stance that every enemy fucking had and made fighting tedious. However, it did borrow the character quests from Legendia so that was definitely a plus.

Question: Does it look like they improved the traversal mechanics? The last Tales I played was Graces, and the jumping was stilted and canned, with the game taking control away from you as the character "jumped". I'm so fucking sad that the "Tales of" series, since the beginning, has been driven into the dirt by bad design decisions.
1.) They have some amazing concepts for real-time JRPG combat, but it's always flawed. Tales of Phantasia gets ruined a few hours in because Cless becomes useless you're able to beat everything just by spamming spells and summons with Arche and Klarth respectively.
2.) The emphasis on "combos" in every game is AWFUL. When you first play Tales of Phantasia, it feels amazing the way you strategically attack at opportune moments, block attacks, and using your arts sparingly. I really want these to be a thinking man's game, I fucking hate how it's all about just mashing out combos in these games.
3.) In every "Tales of" game that I've played, the stories always start off really interesting and concise, but then devolve into complete and utter shit. I've played Phantasia, Symphonia, Of The Abyss, and these stories could easily have been wrapped up in 30 hours, but they throw out this alternate world bullshit out of nowhere that makes zero sense and needlessly have you wandering around doing boring shit with no good motivation for another 20 hours.
If they hired me as lead game designer for these games, you would be in love with me. I would save the Tales of franchise and make it good.
