I actually have a thinkpad that I only use for work stuff. I needed something that would let me do basic code review, MSOffice shit, and other low-end stuff on the go and wouldn't be out a bundle if it got totaled. Of course, I've had a few /g/ types try to get all spergy about it, but when they start asking about model and specs, I make a big deal about looking for a sticker on the bottom or pulling up device manager.
I'm actually surprised at how many people ask me about it. Their story is something like they initially sprung for a high-end laptop with a huge screen, but after using it for a year or two, people who are on it a lot are looking for something smaller(lighter), more durable, and with a better battery life. Or they're a mac type that is discovering how awful it is for accomplishing anything outside of sheltered academia or lib-arts pursuits.
The stickers are the concession to power level and good conversation starters. The cloud one is a flag for IT people, and the Weiland-Yutani is obscure enough for the nerds to feel a special connection.
