Pic related, that's my current TV. It even has an HDMI port and supports 1080p, unlike your shitty 720p LCD screens.
For old consoles pre 360/ps3 absolutely. However most consumer tvs were 1080i at most. Still, its not like many games are 1080p but I dunno if id use a widescreen crt for xbone/ps4. I would not use a widescreen CRT for old consoles because they also use digital signals which means they have analog to digital converter + upscaler which means input lag.
Flat panels have their advantages in cost, size, and weight. CRT's benefits just don't outweigh that.

That does 1080i at most which isnt the full 1920 lines, maybe 1440 X 1080.

I picked up 2 CRT monitors diamond pro 2070sb's for $40, so far they have been great.
I'll give you size and weight though, i'm glad I don't move my computer around very much.
But 2560x1440@85hz with accurate colors, real blacks, no motion blur and extremely low input lag. OLED can't even compete it still has persistence problems which creates motion blur on top black crush and burn in problems.

There are Sony WEGA's that do 1080p through HDMI only and they have a grey front plate, not silver. The silver ones don't have proper 1080p and the picture is down-sampled.
Also if the front of the TV doesn't say "Super Fine Pitch" that means that any signal above 1080i has horrendous input lag. Also these TV's are horrible for any signal below 480i.
Nobody has 720p LCD screens anymore, the only reason to own one of these is for there unparalleled color depth (which is only now being matched with consumer grade LED TVs) and for legacy equipment.
These TV's also suffer from horrendous overscan Also if you have little to no knowledge on how to properly service one, you are much better off with a new TV.

in about five years OLED is going to bring most of CRT's qualities into monitors thinner than current LCDs. They literally turn off during blacks, have response times in the microseconds, and with strobing can provide the glorious clarity you're looking for.
Only downside is that they burn in like a motherfucker.
I have a CRT for older games or anything that runs 4:3, and a decent LCD monitor for newer stuff and widescreen movies and such

I don't know about solved, but it's certainly been reduced. I've had a Note 5 with an OLED screen since November, and there's no burn in on it yet, whereas the Note 2 I had prior to it had noticeable burn-in by this point.

here's the thing though.
Any CRT taking input from a digital source like HDMI has to pass the digital signal through an analog decoder before it can hit the screen.
Meaning any CRT running an HDMI source is going to have horrible input lag.
Meanwhile, any LCD screen can run digital input by default, and the only lag comes from the screen's own refresh rate, which is something that may have been an issue 15 years ago, but any screen bought after 2010 has as good or better refresh rates than a CRT.
Analog inputs are better on CRTs, digital inputs are better on LED or LCD.
Period.

The only slightly concerning thing about crts and dust is dust collected form the screen of a crt that sees frequent use is slightly radioactive because of something to do with radon or whatever but it's not at any harmful levels.
CRTs are such an old technology that if there was anything significantly harmful about them we'd have seen a massive spike in brain tumors or whatever by now.

I use the Framemeister for old vidya. Looks fantastic on modern TVs with a little tweaking. Can even set scanlines if thats your thing.

The way CRTs refresh makes flicker quite noticeable even at 60Hz and this caused eye strain migraines somehow i dunno.
I didn't really spend lots of time in front of a screen until after CRTs were obsolete.
